There was an anime I remember seeing where there was this ugly fat dude who was hunting ogres and they're fighting and the ogres knock off his helmet and theyre like "damn. This dude is FIIIINE" and they basically, through trials, make him a raid leader on human villages.
It's kinda funny and interesting to see this trope so often.

I've never seen Fly Agaric and Amanita Muscaria portmanteaued like that before, but they are the same thing

Pretty sure it’s just psychoactive no? Reindeer seem to enjoy them a lot.

There hasn't been a documented fatal case in 100 years, but that's mostly because of modern medicine. they're still extremely unhealthy to eat.

Damn well there’s a dude in r/unclebens wanting to clone one he found in the wild. Might need to tell him it’s not a good idea lol

I feel like the goal was for this to be hot but all I can focus on are the sexist gender roles

And also how he murdered their husbands who for all we know didn't do anything wrong and were just goblin villagers.

And apparently the women are totally cool with their husbands having been murdered, only caring that the utility of the men was lost.

It's funnier if we assume the hero is gay. So all these chicks are just using all the tricks in the book and he's begrudgingly dealing with it.
The Hero needs his own Hero now. :(

In all the comics ive ever read, there was actually a single one that was questioning the female version of mythical beasts.
I remember it was a comic about Greeks conquering Mount Olympus only to be impended by Cyclops.
When the greeks asked where are the female cyclops, they started to laugh. They started to say(extremely sarcastic) that the women were so beautifull that they had to stay hidden in the caves where they lived.

Yes, that is fairly common in Greek mythology; only the male version of the creature is considered "monster". One of the most obvious examples is the centaurs: they are depicted in myths as brutish and animalistic, whereas centauress are portrayed as beautiful and graceful—more akin to nymphs than to the males of their species.

No man,the joke was the female cyclops were so ugly they had to stay hidden.
What nailed the comversation was the male cyclopes that werent themselves handsome to begin with.

There are quite a few female monsters in Greek mythology. Medusa and the Gorgons, the Sphinx, Scylla, Charybdis, sirens, harpies, furies, Echidna, Empusa.
To be fair, beauty (or the utter opposite) are themes with many of them, but not all.
And I don't know of male versions of pretty much any of them.

Cue that one tiktok posts with the girl saying its hard to socialize because she notices how "misogyny" bleeds thru the cracks of normal socializing

u/Dumber-Sleepy-Artist 11h ago
Yeah why are the men (from the little we can see) just monsters while the women all have to be thin, busty and pretty

Honestly, if I saw a guy come murder all the men I know, I'd probably sweet talk him and see how much work I can get out of him before I get the chance to poison him so that's how I'm choosing to read this.

Okay, I’m ready for downvotes, but someone needs to say this. Gender equality is only feasible in a modern, peaceful society where basic human needs are met. People can do whatever they want because they have food, shelter, water, safety, etc. That’s definitely not the point of those comics. It’s medieval times at best, and the goblin village is at war with human adventurers. In that setting, men need to be strong to protect their home, and women need to prepare food. Gender equality is a privilege, not something every society can afford.

The axe doesn't care if the person wielding it has tits. The cleaver cuts whether a man's or a woman's hands hold it. When threats howl at the doors, women do not cower, they defend their homes.
Get off the internet incel bullshit.

You’re right that women can fight and that weapons can reduce the physical gap. But I wasn’t saying women are incapable. My point is about average constraints in pre-modern/survival settings. Physical differences and childbirth shape the division of labor, so the freedom to choose any role is a privilege many societies can’t afford.
Also, if you actually want to discuss this, let’s keep it civil.

You’re just stating your opinion as fact. I don’t think you want to discuss this.

Do you think medieval peasant women were typically stay at home tradwives? Because you're mistaken
8
u/Whoobie_ 10h ago
your understanding of medieval gender roles comes from movies and cartoons, you don't know as much as you think

u/Early_Common3356 9h ago
On average, men are physically stronger, and women are the ones who can give birth. In a survival setting, who is more likely to be the one fighting to protect the other?
Being able to choose your gender role is a privilege that many people simply don’t have when times are hard.

People very often didn't fight.
Actual human activity in pre-industrial societies involved 80% or so of adult men, adult women, and children toiling in fields, farms, and fisheries.
Ploughing and construction was broadly done by men, while handling animals (eg milking), creating textiles, and gathering water was broadly done by women. Both men and women handled harvesting, weeding. This is true across agricultural pre-industrial societies.
What constrained people's work in life wasn't sex. Everyone did everything.
