Why were people saying that this was illustrated by a man? I’m not trying to be sexist but the ML was clearly female-gaze, I honestly couldn’t see a man drawing another man like that😭

The argument I saw is that when women draw women, even sexually, they do it "respectfully" and "realistically". Which falls under the dangerous misconception that female sexuality is more "pure".

Lol, Azure lane character design is made by a woman, and least thing I would call those character design is pure XD

Like half my characters always wear the sluttiest outfits, and they ARE also slutty 🫡 but yeah, stigma of female sexuality is crazy. Like, girls can be gooners too.

At lof of women even love to sexualise themselves with outrageous outfit why are people still thinking that. Futhermore there are torn nsfw and porn women Artist that argument is so dumb

u/Allyen_BOSS Jul 20 '25

Misandry it's in the room with us?

-87

u/UNBONNET69 Jul 20 '25

Always has been.

62

u/DarthAtan Jul 20 '25

She should come over more often then

64

u/keIIzzz Jul 20 '25

Where’s the misandry?

-74

u/UNBONNET69 Jul 20 '25

Implying only women can draw women respectfully is misandry, because it's an opinion based on sex. Not skill nor reality.

Which is misandry. But i guess, some brains are bad with definitions.

The other comment states it but to be more clear, this isn’t misandry as the comment isn’t as serious as it originally sounds. It is more so an observation for how a lot of works made by men with women in them will give the women absurd proportions for no real (story/natural) reason.

I would say it’s misandry if someone really believed it was “impossible” for a man to draw a respectful female character, but I have almost never heard that take.

Most people just want to be represented well in fiction and seeing people fumble so badly so consistently on that front for women became common enough to be joked about and made fun of. So to be fully clear, it is a joke made to make fun of people who can’t draw women respectfully.

To be clear, drawing large proportions does not make the drawing ‘disrespectful,’ it is more often the drawing’s framing and what the ‘camera’ is focused on.

I mean this is literally a case of " you're not the tarhet audience, " simple as.

"You can't call me misogynistic, that's misandry!"

"Calling me out for being racist makes you racist!"

"Calling me homophobic is actually heterophobic!"

This comment holds no discussion value.

That’s…not at all what “misandry” means. Sexism, maybe? Misandry, no.

But you also have to understand that realistically men do sexualize women in a very different way when creating female characters in media

u/mikennjr Jul 21 '25

Define misandry

12

u/AliasMalice Jul 20 '25

Thank god we didn't ask you then

u/Rogue_bae Jul 20 '25

I feel like you can always tell when it’s a man drawing women vs women drawing women. This is clearly the female gaze like you said.

59

u/Dave_the_DOOD Jul 20 '25

Meh. Especially in spicier art there's a lot of women where you wouldn’t expect it.

Sure sometimes you can see signs of the female vs the male gaze, but that doesn't stop a lot of women from having a very male gaze-y art, if that makes sense.

-5

u/patience_OVERRATED Jul 20 '25

It's not "male gaze-y", it's the male gaze, pure and simple. I feel like a lot of ppl don't understand the term "male gaze" and are under the false assumption that women don't have it in their art

5

u/Rogue_bae Jul 20 '25

Not everything about sex is the male gaze though.

-4

u/patience_OVERRATED Jul 20 '25

Never said it was, and I'm having a hard time seeing how you drew that conclusion from my comment

3

u/Dave_the_DOOD Jul 20 '25

I used vague language. I agree. My point was, indeed, the male gaze can be performed by women and loved by some women.

You know what the male gaze is, but for those downvoting you : I understand "the male gaze" as a collection of tropes, clichees and archetypes generally presented by men and for men, about women. It’s the way men see and consume women in media. That doesn’t mean no women share that vision of their own gender. But just because some women are fine with that vision and enjoy it doesn’t validate the more dubious aspects of it, especially when it comes to sexualisation.

2

u/patience_OVERRATED Jul 21 '25

Yeah idk, I'm just getting downvoted without anyone explaining why they disagree with my comment🤷

u/[deleted] Jul 20 '25

Women can still write for the male gaze tho, several women write hentai for male public

0

u/LooseGas2216 Jul 24 '25

They write for porn Addicts, not for the male gaze.

74

u/Burntoastedbutter Jul 20 '25

Idk about that. One artist I follow who make amazing art of sexy women, often times sexualised as well, has a woman behind the art. But she's gotten a handful of hate comments by women because they think she is just some horny guy 😭 She's even said she sometimes uses herself for pose references

I think her user was blondykitegraja or something like that.

0

u/Ornery_Ad565 Jul 20 '25

Plz I need her name

-15

u/UNBONNET69 Jul 20 '25

Women on Women hate, it's proof enough in my opinion.

-6

u/Rogue_bae Jul 20 '25

Never said women can’t draw women being sexy

2

u/Burntoastedbutter Jul 21 '25

I never said you never said that? You said you feel like it's easy to tell what gender is behind the art. But sometimes, it's not so easy after all.

14

u/Human_erroneous Jul 20 '25

I would only push back because this feels like an essentialist argument as if there's something in the gender juice that makes all female artists more respectful and all make artists disrespectful or just pervs? Idk

-3

u/Rogue_bae Jul 20 '25

I’m talking about the style. Male gaze boobs literally defy gravity

12

u/ok0905 Jul 21 '25

I don't think a straight man will draw men like that too tbh BUT I can see women draw women like that haha. I personally draw my women like that because I like how it looks. And I know way many women that draw like that in school.

Exactly i feel like a woman body is easily appreciated by both gender whatever their sexuality, at lot women admire and can see the sensuality of a woman and how and sexy they are in every aspects.Even a lot of women wants to be sexy themselves with some kind reavealing outfit and make up . Meanhwile a straight guys can't see a man in a sensual way , they see each other sexy in different way like when they sexualised each other it's all about being strong , manly and cool . These men in that manhwa especially the ml with his slutry pose in radomn panel and cover art are drawn with a lot of sensual element that a straight man would never drawn

u/Tater-thoughts Jul 20 '25

I thought she was very male gaze because her proportions are a lil off to me. Like, it's mainly that her arms are literal twigs compared to the rest of her. It's sort of like Lookism's women. But hey, yeah. True Beauty's author is also guilty of weird women proportions. The men are very female gaze. So idk I didn't really think of it too much, really.

8

u/[deleted] Jul 20 '25

I could tho, lookism men are pretty juice and beautiful

3

u/orchidheartemoji Jul 23 '25

He looks creepy and not in like a sexy way, just weird proportions and looks like he wears lip gloss. Definitely female gaze.
