I can't name many off the top of my head right now but it happens in action manhwa too. I can see at least a couple of characters in my head waking up or returning after some time or something and “cleaning up” which ends up meaning shaving and giving themselves a generic haircut (instead of just cleaning, styling, and/or trimming it so it looks more kempt) sadly. It happens in solo leveling before he goes to meet his sister's teacher granted his hair wasn't super long to begin with and they ended up somehow maybe making his hair look a little less generic despite still being a super basic style —at least for a little bit. But this is the only one I can think of the name of rn.
Oh yeah! I forgot about solo leveling! I was kind of upset because I liked the way he looked originally! I haven’t read much action series but it’s so common in romance series that it’s like party time of the male lead doesn’t chop his hair lol
Look at Reinhart from I Failed to Oust the Villain. He kept his hair but at what cost!? Haha
But thanks for letting me know that it does happen in other series too! I am assuming maybe the artist does it to save on time with drawing… maybe? I don’t know!
No worries! And yeah it's so so common in rofan and OI, unfortunately.
And oof omg I haven't read I Failed to Oust the Villain yet, but from everything I've seen and heard about Reinhart I'm a little scared too ngl. lol He's so hot 🥵 but like you said at what cost — so I'm wondering if I should just save myself. 😅💀 I’ve heard it may also have something to do with what is considered popular by Korean beauty standards (since most of these are coming from Korea) too— but I'm not Korean and I have never been one to keep up with what's popular/have personally always been more attracted to alt types so I have no idea if this I true. 🤷😅
But omg you should totally read Another Typical Fantasy Romance if you haven't already though! I highly recommend it— the creator is like a lot of us and was also sick of this BS… And with the lack of MLs that matched their type they decided to write their own.😅 I honestly wish I had the time and patience/dedication, that the creator has, to put in the work that a whole series is— because there are a few other tropes I’d like to see a comic throw in the trash and set it on fire lol
Just avoid the side stories for I Failed to Oust the Villain. Those are totally different characters. The two MC's in the main story are complicated. So it's not just him.
I literally didn't even start the next season after looking at this nonsense. But if someone could tell me which episode this is from, I'd like to take a look at the comments
can I finally see a webtoon with a dark skinned character who has natural black textured hair
I understand wigs and stuff exist, I wear extensions a lot, more than my natural, but when it's a characters who clearly has their natural hair and they just draw it all spiky it's just like...have you ever seen them naturally have hair like that??
Even when people draw my own OCS they'll straighten the hair and it annoys the hell outta me
This!!! I’d love some more diverse representation in facial features too. I get that these are being drawn to fit Asian “beauty standards” but if you're gonna draw characters that are supposed to be from different cultures it just feels gross to me.
Death Note did that with the two american agents. Their facial features were noticably different from japanese characters. They were white american though
Yeah; that's another issue, too tbh. Even when we get a darker skin ML or even rarer, FL, they're often portrayed in ways that's either very violent or very fetishy :(. Hopefully you're right about the genre and this one is just because it's an action production. Regardless, I hope he's well-rounded to avoid the stereotypes nonetheless :3
I just checked. It’s action. But this image also appears more catered to the male gaze than to the female gaze, and typically that’s a good giveaway; he looks more imposing than handsome. 😅
I don’t know this series, but action series in the modern day tend to give pretty decent and interesting portrayals to male characters. They may not necessarily be the best people, but since it’s an action comic, ample excuses are needed for the characters to throw blows, so… 😅 And whether good or bad, this guy looks pretty interesting, imo. I would have high expectations as a viewer, personally.
Yes. 👀 That's why I didn't mention them, tbh. As far as I'm aware, women have been getting better representation lately in this category as well. But yeah, it's a mixed bag. 😅
Yeah, I have to admit, bad wording on my end 😅 I just was excited to see a dark skinned character have an important role in this series, especially since I don’t see many in the ones I read. I should definitely branch out more, thanks for the recommendation!
Let me guess, hes the leader of a group full of dark-skinned 'barbarians' that are all barbaric and violent and ew but the pale skinned blonde MC will 'tame' him and dw guys it's totally not racist
Nono not at all 😞 I don’t know much about his story yet, but apparently the bro in the pic used to be his ‘left arm’ and declared independence, but they don’t seem to be on bad terms, so it’s likely he’s still working under him to get him this powerful item at an auction.
Since this guy is his main rival at the moment, that must mean that he’ll go against Kronos at one moment. This story really isn’t like that, I would never read stories like that 😞
Uhh for some reason the image didn’t show up lemme send it again+ another guy that was associated with the guy in the post (sorry for the yap I really like this series 🙏🏾)

This is my prediction on what he'll look like 10 chapters from now if I have learned anything from Manhwa:
