Yeah the cup is in their hands but so is everything else basically most of the time šš Dude looks like he could swat a fly out of the air from 10 ft away
Something still looks off about the character on the left, when I try to visualise the position of the body that isn't visible I can't quite work it out. Not sure if it's the scaling of the lower half of the body, or the position of the hips relative to shoulders or what
The main problem is that the artist drew their torso and then added their ass, instead of viewing the ass as part of the torso/legs. So you have an ass worth of extra space.
did this in a rush so it's incomplete but i just had to see how long the legs would be unfolded
edit: looking back a few hours later, i think this is a slight misrepresentation as i didn't really account for the pelvis properly (although in the original, i do think the pelvis is drawn a bit weirdly), i've fixed my edit and put it in the replies, less horrifying perhaps! legs are still very long though haha
You've actually erred on the side of correctness and put the pelvis too high based on the positioning in the original. You've got it closer to where it should actually be if the torso wasn't also so elongated.
I used green so it would be distinct but the top of the red line (the hip joint) should be at the first green line and the curve of her butt should extend down closer to the second. (Idk why I'm doing this lol)
Ngl it looks like shorts but itās actually a dress skirt so you can faintly make out the thin line that separates her legs. Although she has a severely short leg šš and it looks a bit stiff in terms of posing
Edit: they shouldāve also imo made the skirt flow less rigid and look more .. well, thinner? It doesnāt feel natural the way it curves but I might be looking too much into it!
This feels like she's just bewbs and then nothing below the stomach (well maybe that's actually the case and it would be funny, but I wouldn't know because I'm so sick of seeing so many similar looking webtoons I don't want to give this one a shot tbf)
Dang, I'm usually lenient on anatomy for comic panels since time constraints are a thing and people don't look at them for too long, but this is a cover illustration.
Based on how the cloak sits, I think that his neck isn't actually that long, it just looks like it because the cloak is going over his shoulders. However, someone drawing that should keep in mind how it looks.
I love Down to Earth, but the illustrator's love of dump trucks is often distractingly bad.
Level 99 Wooden Stick also has strongly veered into "author's thinly disguised fetish" territory to the point where I can't read it anymore because boobs and legs don't work like that! Also the whole 1000yr old dragon who looks like a preteen thing and here she is in sexy stockings, which the author is very obviously into.
99 Wooden Stick: The breaking point for me was the underage character with giant boobs and somehow every single shirt she owned was suction-cupped to her breasts. Because fabric totally works like that.
Yeah.... It was borderline normal at first but now it's just straight fetish all the time š„² like, behold this very normal female character from chapter 1. Now it's all stockings and vacuum sealed boobs. And the minor who is a 1000yo dragon. Who could look like an adult like other dragons, but bc she's the strongest, she presents as a 12yo...???
I suck at drawing hands and feet unless it's literally the only thing I'm drawing and it has to be realistic not cartoon. Lol when I do doodles or anime style I say fuck it and throw them behind the character or in pockets
yeah this is really bad. Anatomy is way off. Pose references are so easily accessible Iām always surprised the art in this comic never improves after all this time
Speaking as a lover of webtoons and a former model for her, a lot of Webtoon authors should really learn about and use Adorkastock for *anatomy (not availability, wtf autocorrect)
She's been doing it for a really long time and has had tons of different models with different body shapes doing all sorts of reference poses. It's a great resource for any artist!
Itās strange to me why beginners donāt use references more often than not? Like if itās a small thing, like with hands and something looks a little off? No biggie, everyone struggles with hands.
But poses like this? I feel like even seasoned artists would use a reference to make sure things are lined up right, or else the torso ends up looking too long or hips too elongated or whatnot. Not shaming this artist, this is more of advice for other beginner artists that using a reference isnāt a bad thing. And if you do it enough times, you end up not needing references anymore.
This webtoon was rlly good , but the waist to bust to rest of the body for the fl didn't make sense many times . I get that she might hv a snatched waist in ballgowns as they were corsets and such , but mostly she'd hv waists tinier than her whole body in nightgowns and other flowy dresses , which just felt unnatural.
That is a rlly valid question as well š
Tbh atp I've stopped questioning the weird anatomy of webtoon characters. Half of them are stylized and the other half are just idek . And although her waist is not so thin in the cover art , it's much much more skinny in the actual webtoon itself .
Wish you were dead . It's a completed series
Also heads up if ur gonna read it , IT HAS SOO MUCH ANGST . happy moments as well , but loads of angst and drama .
Agreed...like the alien girl (Zaida?) Is so interesting at first, has a super color backstoryt, powers, and then gets completely nerfed in the story by being overshadowed by...moody grumpy guy still hung up on his ex??? Someone who needs therapy and not a cute alien gf???? I think the author needs to focus on FMC and put love interest guy to the side
NAHHH fr, cause between the two mcs with one CLEARLY having the more interesting backstory, they chose to waste 100+ chapters on emo guys backstory and his entire lore š like cmon we did not need a backstory for his ex gf too. Its really obvious the author just wanted a romance story about a hot girl who has cool superpowers who EVERYONE loves and a emo grumpy guy who needs to learn to be less grumpy, but didnt want to elaborate on the alien part because they didnt actually have plans for it š. Its such a wasted potential and i was there from chapter 20+
hes so pathetic. like im sorry their entire relationship feels akin to grooming. shes extremely naive and childish at first and he teaches her everything, almost taking on a parental like role. yet simultaneously he will gawk at her body and then whine and bitch about his girlfriend from like TWO YEARS AGO? bruh š
in my words itās a typical tale of a clueless extraterrestrial girl whoās with the most boring guy on earth and then goes manic pixie daydream on him to make his life ābetterā
Been scrolling for a little and some of these are obvious and funny like a few orangutan arms, or disproportionate bodies, etc but then others have me staring for minutes to find the mistake. Just to realize its art style, the part theyāre asking to have fixed wasnāt necessary to convey the image at all, or genuinely MINUSCULE errors. Its funny when its a large error that looks super uncanny like the posters photo, but if its literally just āthe arm wraps around that slightly awkwardā or āthe waist here is too thinā like literally what are we talking about anymoreā¦
i think to a degree some are might be some who are way too anal about proportions when the art style clearly isn't meant to be 1-to-1 with real human anatomy. using popular examples; one piece, sailor moon, code geass etc are extremely beloved anime series that are most definitely inspirations to tons of artists and those series famously have quirky anatomy that set them apart from their contemporaries such as gangly limbs, tiny waists and extreme size differences
while it can be a barrier to entry, there is nothing inherently bad about having inaccurate proportions so long as they stay consistent and the characters are not completely mismatched. even major art style changes are natural if it's a gradual process (ie. araki's work on jojo's bizarre adventure)
It's actually rlly cute and wholesome, plus the story is great as well , esp w the recent character developments .
Although the woman rlly unproportionate butts and thighs , the colouring and other aspects of the art are rlly cute and nice !! Deffo give it a read
Name is 'dow to earth's btww
Ohh , was there an artist switch or sm ??I hate when that happens. Or when the art of s1 is rlly good and then the next seasons , it just goes downhill š
This one got so many laughs and screams from my friends. The artist is quite skilled at drawing close shots, but unfortunately struggles with full bodies...
I noticed it when I read that episode for the first time. I expected someone to talk about it on webtoon in the comments under, but no one did. Iām glad that i'm not the only one who noticed.
Possessive tyrant and his sleepy cat had some bangers, like WHAT THAT HAND DOIN
I ended up dropping it because of that and the goddawful asset blending š
honorable mention to tears on a withered flowers FL, where the tatas are bigger than her head and she has a spine for a body; they gotta get those boob & butt poses
I donāt think the intent is to hate on the artists itās just amusing to see how things slip by! Also itās good to learn where someone messed up so other artists know not to do that :)
Yeah, I mean it just seems like the artist isn't the best with anatomy. Some dedicated studies would help them a lot, since with this it looks like they just raw dog learned it on their own by drawing it.
I never really like these kinds of posts, art is hard and one of the biggest motivation killers are posts and opinions like this creating a sense of perfection thatās needed. I promise you thereās not an artist on this world that doesnāt lowkey hate their own art and abilities.
In full reference to the OPās post, this creator updates weekly, having the page 100% done fully with accurate references is just a level of time commitment not inherently possible considering thereās no way this comic is paying their bills based on who I see in fast pass.
Just idk maybe people donāt think about the background of how something like this would make an artist feel or how itās not really in the realm of criticism when itās about something like a comic with high time demands likely leading to these mistakes.
Idk as an artist/designer I honestly find these kinds of posts humorous and a useful insight into how folks think. I like seeing what people decide counts as a āfailā when a lot of the time it is a stylistic choice and not an accident. What makes these posts funny to me is that some commenters assume artists are always aiming for realism when plenty of styles lean into intentional exaggeration like the opās post. Folks can go eat rocks since the artist never promised a 1:1 human anatomy study. This is a comic with an established style, not a figure drawing textbook. š¤£
Once art is out in the world and tied to a product people are going to talk about it. If no one reacts then it probably is not making an impression at all and that honestly makes me more sad as an artist. People are allowed to have opinions about commercial art. What is not cool is when commentary turns into bullying or odd projections about the creator instead of recognizing that stylization is part of the medium and that weekly comics are produced at a pace where not everything will match someoneās expectations.
I do agree with you though that people rarely think about how comments like these might land for a creator who is juggling time limits, deadlines, and the pressure to update constantly. Webtoon environments are intense and basically guarantee some strange anatomy or blending moments but itās important as an artist to remember that those little mistakes usually reflect production conditions and not a lack of ability on their part. Folks def should keep that in mind more often, but if something like that gets pointed out repeatedly, an artist should either let it go if they know why it happened or just adjust their workflow so the same issue does not pop up again. That is basic quality checking and it exists in every industry.
At the same time I really do think commercial artists have a responsibility to build some resilience around commentary. People purchasing your works are allowed to express likes and dislikes and that feedback is part of how we grow. You cannot create publicly and expect silence. The real skill is learning to separate useful critique from noise so that neither one derails your motivation.
I get what you're trying to say, but imo people should criticized art like this even harder if that's your reasoning why we shouldn't.
People should definitely point out poor output that are caused by the systemic issues within the webtoon industries or webtoon will continue their poor treatment towards their artists.
I wish it would let me post a screenshot, but my Dude to Stud Boyfriend. The main characters starting to look like a bobble head and her wrists are the size of a Barbie's.
Guys donāt get me wrong, Iāll still keep reading unordinary cuz i do like Uru-chanās work, Iāve been there since around the 1st season and despite it dragging on i still really like it as a storyline and wanna see how it ends up going, but some of the artwork in these chapters is making me have to point it out, particularly their chins have been bothering me, they just keep getting longer each season. Ik itās meant to demonstrate theyāre growing up through all the chaos in the story but come on
Probably the panel where the characterās hands were bigger than their entire head. Bless their enthusiasm thoug. Webtoon anatomy really is its own genre.
this is the ml hand from āvillain, iāll do everything except marriage for youā and when i first saw this, i was so confused bc y r his fingers so smallš
this also applies to lore olympus too but why does everyone hate it? i personally think itās not that bad guysā¦. i just think drawing takes a lot of hard work and they have to follow webtoons crazy deadlines that ofc theyāre messed up on proportions often
There is a lot to say but above all to criticize. Lore Olympus, it is truly UNFORGINNABLE what the author did with his art. I can't even say "intense publishing pace" because the author has assistants. And all the series that have assistants, frankly, I don't understand. If tasks are shared, why does art continue to deteriorate?
However, many amateur cartoonists are starting to publish their webtoons on their own, and frankly, it must be hard to take all the criticism. They have to manage the story, the sketch, the inking, the settings, the coloring, the dialogues... I've already done a comic, and it's a lot of work. And frankly, I wouldn't want to find myself on Reddit getting stoned. And that could deter more than one person. You still need balls to publish today, people are merciless... Yeah, I'm one of them.
I would get a sceenshot but i think any of you that read webtoons...the curse of the cgi horse. I know you know what im taling about. I hate them. So very much. I dont care how overworked an artist is, learn to trace the model or just learn to draw a mutherfockin horse

The arms in The Cup of Vengeance is in Your Hands get me all the time.
