I dont really get it. If shes a slave anyway, then what stops him from ordering her to date him? And why would anyone program a robot to refuse dating? Thats like one of the biggest parts of the ai market right now

It seems that the robot in question is able (at least currently) to say what they think. And they are explaining why its not actually dating.
You cant hold absolute power over your partner and still be considered partners. If someone is only your partner through force or fear, thats not a real relationship

Shes not actually explaining it. And you arent either

I wasnt asking about the philosophy of it. You can still force someone to date you, in many countries arranged marriages are still a thing, whether you and I like it or not
So given that it is, indeed, possible, why would the creators of the robot program it against it despite it being a great financial prospect?
In other words, Im not arguing that the message is wrong, Im arguing that its execution isnt great. Detroit Become Human deals with similar themes, has a similar message, and does it more realistically. Of course the big corporations would want to create robot prostitutes, and its shown as something bad

She says quite literally why they cant date. They arent on equal footing. You arent dating someone who is forcing you into a relationship, its just slavery.
You can call it whatever you like, but that doesnt change the fact that having no agency makes it no better than simple slavery.
Irl its profitable to sell chatgpt as a lonely persons girl/boyfriend. But that doesnt mean a single robot cant be made by someone who considers romantic involvment with robots to be harmful. I dont know this work, i dont know what the author was thinking. But lonely people becoming emotionally dependant on chatbots isnt a good thing

Yeah, with the lonely people becoming emotionally dependent on chatbots its well known to be an issue. It can cause AI psychosis, and in those with conditions like anorexia or OCD it provides a constant stream of reassurance, making those disorders significantly worse pushing the subject often to the point of hospitalization or death. AI chatbots regularly kill people because of such issues, its deadly.
Even if you are in a romantic relationship with a slave that is still slavery. Its just romantic slavery, or sexual slavery. Consent given in a situation where no is not an option isn't proper consent, consent must be enthusastic and free to be taken away at any point. If they can't take away their consent its not a consensual relationship, since the human controls the robot the robot can never properly consent to a relationship.

And arranged marriages are still marriages. Is it wrong? Is it bad? Doesnt change the fact that it is called marriage. And same goes for dating, or seeing someone
But fine, I dont want to argue semantics, so lets give it another name, call it "slavery," as you put it. Why would someone make a slave robot to do chores for people but program it against "slavery"?
Again, Im not arguing against the message that "nobody should be forced into a relationship," Im simply asking for context for this story op made
i dont know what the author was thinking
Me neither! Thats why Im asking! God forbid something doesnt make sense to me and I ask the author about it
Anyway, Im not going to keep arguing in a virtue signaling eco chamber where anything that doesnt immediately praise the (in my opinion, one that I was willing to change by asking my initial question) surface level allegories of the artist gets downvoted to oblivion. Yall have fun though

Marriage, in name, is a contract union, that’s why an “arranged marriage” is just a planned union. Many people are unhappily married, just like many people are in contracts they hate. You can make a marriage more than just a contract, but that’s up to you and your spouse, just like whether it’s an equal marriage is up to you and your spouse.
It’s not programmed against slavery, it’s programmed based on the perception of romance of the creator. The robot can never be your ‘romantic partner’ because it’s programmed to be subservient to humans, and to the creator (and people who actually care about their partner) if it can never regard itself as equal enough to humans, then it can’t be seen as a partner. So accepting a human asking it to become their romantic partner will override the subservience programming, which is obviously a no go.
The most you can get is an escort situation, where they’re doing all the things that you regard as dating, but to them it’s simply a job.

Um... exactly. The robots in this setting are conscious, so there are safeguards in place to prevent them from being turned into sex slaves.

Even chatgpt dialed back the romance stuff at some point with gpt5 because they were getting sued left left and right for causing deaths and damages for the chatbot reinforcing people's delusions, a lot of AI chatbots literally have safeguards where it basically says it's not gonna engage in romantic or sexual stuff with the user because it's a machine. Even Sam Altman himself, as lack of morality as he has, admitted that they dialed it back because it exasperated people's mental health issues and the controversies piled up.
It doesn't even have to be the creator's morals, the creators could just not want to be sued because because their robot drove people into psychosis by pretending to love them.
Yes, the comic is still an allegory for equality in relationships, I understand that allegories using robots and AI use to be common but now have became much more divided in interpretation in recent times due to prominence of the tech. But readers often just need to understand and acknowledge whether the robot or AI in a story is literal or an allegory for something.

Because that's not dating. If he orders her to do date things with him, that's just him ordering a robot around. It's not a relationship no matter how much you dress it up as one

I loved the reply of the robot lady!
Because yeah, you can't be the master and the partner at the same time.
