Boognish Provides new live Ween download?

Since Ween sold their catalog to Rhino and they're not making money on this anyway...

I have no way to play CDs on my main stereo but I can play local files, stream, etc. I really want to be able to listen to the 14cd live set on my main stereo. Anyone know a good place to download high quality files?

I don’t know that they sold their catalog to Rhino. I’m sure they’re getting paid for this release. That said, if you don’t want to pay for it, there are other ways to find what you’re looking for.

Hmm, how accurate is the statement “Since Ween sold their catalog to Rhino and they’re not making money on this anyway …”?

You wouldn’t download a car, would you?

Why would anyone not download a car?

I would totally be on board with downloading a car except I know I could trust the car provider to sell me monthly subscriptions to things like starting the car, brakes, headlights, seats, etc.

This is why you find a site with reliable content and you download your car there. Like a site whose name would be redacted here, I’d totally download my car there and then I’d drive it everywhere!

Man, I have seen them so many times, bought so many tshirts, so many posters, so many records, bought the C&C belt, flown to see them, I tell the world about them, and have supported them since the days of listening to GWS on my cassette walkman. Lawd Boognish give me this one.

It's accurate. Aaron and Mickey sold, and the rest of the band gets nothing, per Claude's recent AMA here.

That’s how I read that as well. Obviously I don’t know the specifics but it sounds like Claude and Dave got shafted. It didn’t sound like there was much communication about it either. Aaron and Mickey built Ween and (through the Boognish) were the creative driving force of the band. It could be argued that Claude and Dave are simply a drummer and a bass player that could have been easily replaced. It’s sticky and I hate it sooooo much.

Didn't Claude say he found out from lawyers reaching out for tax info? Why would they need that unless he was being paid something...I may have read it wrong but that made me think he had gotten something out of it.

Claude also stated a while back that the money was split evenly between the 5 members when they toured and he was stoked about that.

There is no “rest of the band” Ween is Mickey and Aaron, everyone else was a hired hand and was paid accordingly.

Yes, I understand the differences between legality and morality.

If I get hired to play in a band I didn’t create, to play on a record or tour of songs I didn’t write, I wouldn’t then complain when I don’t get a piece of the pie when those songs are sold.

But that’s only partially true. Claude has talked about writing lyrics and working on lyrics with Gene. Yes, Ween is legally just Aaron and Mickey, but it was, no doubt, made better by the other touring members

I’m definitely not saying that they didn’t improve the final product. What i’m saying is that every Ween song is credited to Aaron and Mickey, and so they are the only one who benefit from selling their catalog. If Claude really did write lyrics and music, then he should have gotten a writing credit.

It would be worth it to get yourself a CD player, specifically one that can be connected to your computer.

Yeah, used dvd /cd players are cheap at thrift stores and sound great. Buying cds is also cheaper than records (vinyl). Win win.

If you can stream it then whats the question? Stream it from your phone.

Only the shorter LP compilation is currently available to stream. That's why they're asking.

Oh I see.

The full box set will probably go up on Qobuz in a month or two if I had to guess. Probably be like $50 for 16 bit flac

I would imagine it'd be on Slsk.net or the high seas soon enough.

you think they wouldn't get a percentage? are you an idiot?

1

u/Dakkmd 11h ago

I might be cuz idk how catalog sales work. Do they get one fat check for their stuff and then it belongs to Rhino? Or do they get paid a percent of the record sales thereafter?

1

u/chewbaccataco 9h ago

Depends on the details of the deal, but usually something like this is that full ownership of the catalog is transferred to the buyer and the seller basically forgoes all rights to it.

u/Dakkmd 9h ago

That was kinda what I was imagining. Dude calling OP an idiot yet OP might be totally correct lol

you assume someone licenses music and gets nothing? oh brother. what would be the point then idiot

1

u/Dakkmd 6h ago

They didn't license their music they sold their catalog

From a quick Google search

when a band sells their entire catalog (master recordings and/or publishing rights), they generally do not make ongoing money off future record sales, streams, or downloads of those sold works
