Im sick of seeing so many fics that are clearly written by AI. Something about the tonality of the writing really just irritates me because it’s quite repetitive once you notice the patterns.

When AI first came out, I think we were all fascinated because it was such a novel tool…Over time, we've come to realize how boring it actually is, it's basically just a system that copies and pastes from the internet, sometimes without making any sense

I kind of wish I could go back to when I wasn't able to recognize what AI writing looks like. There's some really popular authors who use it, and seeing the patterns always takes me out of the story when I notice it.

I'm curious about what patterns you've noticed 😃 There was a general conversation on Twitter recently about this, it's true that certain dialogue and tropes repeat a lot in fanfiction, but sometimes it's just a common trope, AI tends to scrape what's most popular, so just because someone uses a cliché doesn't automatically mean it's AI

It writes like this.
Short.
To the point.
“I know.”
“No. You don’t.”
“No.”
“You think you know.”
“I was there.”
“And you were already deciding for me what was preferable without the convenience of asking.”
Wednesday swallowed.
Once.
Twice.
Enid noticed.
She observed.
And there it was.
The slightest tightening at the corner of Wednesday’s mouth.
Her tell.
“There’s something you’re not telling me.”
“An insufficient assumption.”
“An assumption based on fact.”
————- anyway that was my attempt at mimicking AI’s writing style. Thanks for coming to my Ted talk

I'm always so torn...part of me wonders why I care what people write in their free time...if it's aI or not, what do they have to gain from it either way...but at the same time I don t want to be part of the ai slop. 🤷🏾♀️ I wish people would be more upfront with tagging their work or we could get more accurate detectors so that I am not supporting people who do this.I really...want to just give my attention to real authors who spend their time and energy writing fics whether or not they are perfect without Ai

I am not even sure it's AI, isn't it too bad for it? I saw a comment when someone literally said that this is better. Bro, it's like the worst, I couldn't understand which sentence were told by which character.

The dearth of 'X said' in the fanfics of this format is fuckin' tedious as fuck, whether spewed out from AI or not. Use fucking paragraphs!
I'm inclined to believe a lot of it is AI or people are using AI trained on earlier iterations of this format, in part because I recently looked through a fic on a different fandom that I'm more entrenched in. It was phrased in this format, and the two main characters talked exactly like this style of fic tends to depict Wednesday and Enid, despite the two characters being very different from those two. (For the record, it was Toga Himiko and Ochako Uraraka from the anime My Hero Academia.)

I just read an ATLA one of Azula and Katara, format and manner of speaking exactly like this too. I was in hard copium mode because I really wanted it to be legit like 'surely it's just their style!' Then like chapter 3 they misgendered one of them as male and I was like ok, can't deny it anymore lmao.

Yeah, I've gotten to where any time where I see something I see too often in fanfics I'll click out. Not even because I think its AI, but it just annoys me.
Some examples:
- They talked about everything and nothing or It was too much and not enough
- That was the goal. Simple. Clean. Controlled
- "You're an idiot"/"You're insufferable" "And you love it"
- Like, any time a character who would never say insufferable says insufferable. Every fandom's fantic writers LOVE this word.
- When a character realizes their crush and the chapter ends with She was so screwed.
- Excessive dialogue tags that aren't said/asked.
There's a lot more on my list, but this is stuff that I see a lot of. Again, not necessarily AI, but it just annoys me.

I still can’t get over the fact that season two had what just is a love confession, like I do not understand how anyone can interpret “but the truth is, you are my pack” as anything other than romantic, like it just is, if it were a male and a female character nobody would have any doubt but here people still insist that it isn’t romantic lol
Like idk if people are just being obtuse, deliberately or accidentally or if it is just homophobia because it’s so unambiguously romantic

It kind of had 2 if you think about it. "Tunnel at the end of my light" in the context of Enid consumating her relationship with her love interest. Please, that scene was insanely Wenclair coded.

It's really weird that people argue that it's just friendly
People want to act like it's not romantic when in the same season Enid talked about Wednesday being the "tunnel at the end of my light" or the grave scene in the body swap episode.

Not to like… vaguepost, but oh god I predict there’s gonna be a whole heap of drama in the current days…

People be weird about Emma’s alleged boyfriend
There’s actually also a lot of parasocial drama happening in general on The Website formerly known As Twitter which I feel could merge into a big blob of drama though that is moving away from the fandom lol

Who cares if she has a Boyfriend as long he is a decent human being. Ship the characters not the actors.

He can’t be worse than Jenna’s
6
u/cultlottie 5d ago
that’s what’s kinda fucked because people will hate on ben more than Elias when he’s an actual racist abuser. I’ve found it odd how this fandom lets Jenna slide with a lot, but the moment Emma does anything, she always gets immediate hate.

I honestly don't like that in most fic when something separate Wednesday and Enid is always Wednesday fault. It doesn't happen in all fics but in most fic happens and is tiresome. Like, Wednesday has the same power to hurt Enid as Enid have it to hurt Wednesday.

No, but the writers really played in our faces by randomly making Weems and Wednesday 13th cousins twice remove. There was really no other way they could have thought of to bring Gwendoline Christie back? They could have given her almost the same role as Lady Gaga, where Wednesday contacts Weems for help as a last resort for saving Enid. She goes to her grave and does a sort of seance to see her. They could have interacted together in a sort of Nevermore afterlife where it’s completely empty except for her and Wednesday as they walk through the halls. That would have worked so much better than having her constantly be hovering over Wednesday.
And what was that line of “Your last guardian quit," which, no, she didn't? She sacrificed herself to save Wednesday—quite happily too, cause she was smiling. Did they not rewatch the last season to refresh?
