Does Wendy’s employees and higher ups know about all the mixed reviews and complaints people are saying online about them lately?

u/er824 2d ago
The reviews don’t seem to be mixed. They seem to be pretty consistently bad.

How often does the frying oil get changed?
19
u/TrueFoxWeirdo 3d ago
We change it every 1-2 days, it just depends on how much is being used
→ More replies (1)2
u/Fragggghhhh 2d ago
Should be changed once a week. Some stores use test strips and change when it's suggested which could be 5 or 6 days depending on volume. At my store during the summer we dump oil on Thursday mornings and Sunday night, during slower months we can make it through Sunday without too much of a drop quality.
But the biggest factor would be how well run the store is. If you have a manager who doesnt care or is lazy then that oil could be 10 days or more without being changed. So that's a variable that its hard to account for. If you go and the oil is bad consistently then maybe it's just a poorly run store issue. Maybe you always go on a Sunday. Which would be the worse oil quality day at my store because we soak and clean them that night.
But in those poorly run stores they would only change the oil when kt became I problem for THEM. Those fryers get smokey when the oil is old.

It was my all time favorite sauce from all the chains out there since the 80s. I am clearly not in the majority if Wendys dropped it.
I’ve noticed though that Chinese plum sauce has a similar fruitiness to it, so not all is lost, but I don’t want to be that guy who brings his own condiments to a fast food joint.

I used to work at Wendy's for 6 years. The meat isn't frozen when it comes off the trucks. Fresh! And people always had a issue with us re using the old patties for chilly lol

It's weird to me that people have an issue with that. It is obviously safe and the chili tastes good, so what's the problem? I like when companies try to waste less food

What's the store's cost to put out a Dave's Double, combo meal. I'd imagine it's pennies in the dollar.
8
u/JesusFreak626 Current Manager 3d ago
I’d have to check, but we sell a single for 6.36 and it cost us 3.06 to make. That’s not counting labor, over head, rent or anything else, just the ingredients.

I worked there before the timers. The manager would let us take home the chicken - no bread or anything else but the chicken would have been thrown out and he was a good guy to the employees. Policy even then was to toss it - more than 40 years ago.

4
u/verticalmattress JBC 3d ago
Here's a real question: have you noticed a downtrend in visitors? Seems like Wendy's really shot themselves in the foot and it doesn't seem like they are busy (other than a small line for lunch). Every time I drive by a Wendy's it has 3 cars in the parking lot and the drive-thru is empty. (I also live near Meritage Hospitality, which files bankruptcy and closed 300+ Wendy's)
9
u/TrueFoxWeirdo 3d ago
I live in a busier area, so our resturaunt is still fairly busy! But, there is a noticeable amount of days where things are so slow and no one really comes in!
4
u/mrpeabody326 3d ago

For one thing, it's made with yeast extract, dextrose (a kind of sugar), disodium inosinate and disodium guanylate - the same stuff they put in nacho cheese tortilla chips.

What is the brand of mayonnaise used on the burgers?
8
u/No-Original6932 Current Employee 3d ago
There isn't a brand. Wendy's develops the mayo recipe they want to use in an in house kitchen. Then, they have commercial food companies produce the mayo. It comes to the stores in plain brown boxes, clear plastic bulk bags. This is for the U.S. market.
3
u/sly_k 2d ago
Why did they get rid of the taco salad. They still serve salad, they still serve Chili. It takes nothing to keep it on the menu. It was my go to for 30+ years.
Now I have to buy a salad and a chili separately and I don’t get nacho chips with it anymore.

When is the Monterrey ranch crispy chicken sandwich coming back?
2
u/kickingthetires 2d ago
Please be asking for the OG, like from the late 90's to early 2000's. That is the one of all Wendy's sandwiches, along with the old school big bacon classic on a toasted Kaiser bun and of course the original spicy chicken sandwich. Shit, even the grilled chicken sandwich with that sauce that was used was pretty legit.

→ More replies (2)→ More replies (1)2
u/LuckyCod2887 2d ago
probably because it’s cheaper. shredded lettuce is actually cheaper to buy the whole lettuce and with shredded lettuce you can have many heads of lettuce and you just collect the center of the head and you’ll take the outer layers and sell them at a higher price.
so each part of the lettuce head cost a different amount for the restaurants to purchase.
and a lot of people might not realize this, but they spray a preservative on top of the shredded lettuce, so it lasts longer. You can’t do that with the giant leaves of lettuce so the shelf life is different for both versions.
i’m not OP and I don’t work at Wendy’s, but I’ve worked at many different restaurants throughout my life.

Why are baconator fries so inconsistent?
Sometimes cheese is melted and bacon is chopped up.
Sometimes cheese not melted
Sometimes just full bacon strips on top
2
u/TrueFoxWeirdo 3d ago
It depends on if we're in a rush, how much water was added to the cheese sauce, and how long it's been kept warm. We change it out 2-3 times a day so sometimes it's overly melted and others it's not melted enough.

5
3

Dam I agree fam. I remember I used to love a Dave's double this is like 2019, shit even after COVID there were a couple times my local Wendy's was doing it right. But I feel like from 2024, on it just became a dumpster fire, and not just my local one, any of em. Maybe it was once they changed the lettuce idk.
2
u/bepatientbekind 2d ago
The lettuce was the final nail in the coffin for me. We used to go minimum once a week and we started spacing months between visits after the lettuce changed, then probably only went 3-5 times again after that before deciding never again. How far they have fallen 😔

2
u/briman2021 3d ago
First of all, how dare you?
Seriously though, do the boots on the ground employees have much of an opinion on the declining quality of the food? I could see it going either way, you're doing a job for a paycheck at the end of the day, not like you're the CEO.
9
u/TrueFoxWeirdo 3d ago
I get really sad seeing the stuff our customers bring back. I'd say it's mainly because of the amount of people who come in and out of the job. No one stays for long or feels motivated because the pay is not good, it's stressful and long hours, and workers get sick of being bossed around and treated poorly. When things are bad for the worker, the food starts to reflect. There's less care put into it because a lot of times, they don't feel it's worth it. I try to give a good experience but even I get frustrated and overworked. It's hard.

Nope no say in it at all. Hate baking the breakfast biscuits for 5 minutes. They’re shriveled and dry compared to being baked at 4 minutes, and 4 minutes is so much more fluffy. Hate how soupy we have to make the sausage gravy. They want it to be extra watery so it accounts for the water evaporation. However, it means for the first 2ish hours it’s just nasty water gravy. Like no wonder nobody orders it. You try to fix something to be more enjoyable, it’s a matter of time before it’s caught and you’re yelled at. Which, on one hand is good store behavior to make sure we’re all doing it the exact same, but it sucks when the procedures make the food less than.

Our local option is a fairly new store and it started out fine. In the last few years, it’s become ridiculously slow and terrible quality. I always order on the app, and it’s never even close to being started by the time I arrive. Literally, I normally wait at least 3-5 minutes before anybody even answers the drive thru, even though they are looking directly at me from the window. It seems like they only have 2-3 staff during the most busy part of the day. Their online deals have pretty much become useless to me and the food is not good enough to pay for poor quality and service. We’ve quit spending at both Wendy’s and McDonald’s for these reasons.

Why doesn't Wendy's understand and I think a lot of other fast food joints. The people are running away. Because all they care about the fast food industry is the money and not what should be quality. And ingredients. Ingredients that are actually good. Not cheap ingredients. Cheap ingredients that make food taste now it's good as they used to during the Dave Thomas era. Because he's rolling over in his grave. Because just coming back with the '90s style containers will not bring back customers. Bringing back quality will.

What is the order for making a jr bacon?
Do expired patties get put in fridge pan for future chili?
2
u/Fragggghhhh 1d ago
Mayo, tomato, lettuce on the top. Meat cheese, 2 strips of bacon on the bottom.
And yes, they do. But its not as nefarious as it sounds. Basically, its no different than browning hamburger meat. We just brown ours in a patty form. They're then put in to a pan an kept as a good safe temp until it's chopped and frozen until it's needed.
At my store we cook meat specifically for chili. So its super fresh.
