ā€œFor meā€ is doing a lot of heavy lifting there lmao. That’s literally my point. You don’t personally find that process worthwhile, and that’s completely fine. Other people do.

Nobody is demanding you spend five years decompiling a game. Your personal preferences don’t determine the creative value of someone else’s work.

Also, disagreeing with your plumbing analogy isn’t pedantry just because the analogy didn’t hold up.

and i never devalued that? i stated that i like doing stuff for the love of the game? did you even read?
I DONT USE AI MYSELF BECAUSE I FIND IT ENJOYABLE!! I LOVE WHEN PEOPLE DO THAT, I JUST DONT THINK PASSION ALONE CAN BEAT THE FUNDS OF THE CORPORATION WHO CAN HIRE 300 OF YOU TO WORK AGAINST YOU

the analogy held up because while it is creative problem solving, the grind isnt what makes it work, its anything it takes to make the system works. it is pedantic because it doesnt matter if its creative or creative problem solving or expression, the point is that its utility first and you didnt read it as that and focused on the meaning of being creative which ignores my main point

So after all this, we’ve established that we both enjoy writing our own code, both recognize that development involves tedious work, and both agree that tools can make that work easier.

The only difference is that I don’t think someone spending years on a passion project is inherently wasting their time just because there’s a faster way to do it.

I’m genuinely not sure what we’re still arguing about lmao. Have a good one.

svnmdvjnfgbjnfgjbn yeah. its all wording gang

i think its fine to do passion projects, i personally dont do like 5 years projects but people who do are fine and respectable. concept of wasting time is silly when you use it to judge other people's free time.

i thought about the power imbalance of the corporations vs the open source scene, open source scene is brilliant but they rarely ship anything easily usable to the public. and i think bridging that gap is important and ai comes into play here, because we do not have team of 300 people and 1 million dollar to make a foss photoshop. thats what i was going for
