forgot who was Ben Shapiro a few hours ago I was trying to search for a gif on him cause I don't know his name and the only thing i remembered him from is his
so... where was i wrong in saying that his dream is a lawless hellhole? what he wants is for everyone to purely fight for themselves, with no laws to get in the way of that. He wishes to destroy the horrible american standard, but even ignoring the tragedies that would need to occur for that, once his "new america" is established suddenly unless you have strength you are boned. Children are a liability, disabilities are death sentences, and nobody is coming to help you.
This is why I think Flowery is such a good antagonist. He genuinely had something worth fighting for, and though he was a bit misguided, I can't find any malice or bad intentions in his goals.
I recently came to the conclusion that true love is woke. Of course, there is nothing wrong with that; I am homophobic and very anti woke, but make no mistake, that's a product of jealousy. Just getting of with the boys, sounds so simple, so elegant.
Not the love is woke part. But everything else is definitely satire.
I like the quote "love is giving what you don't have to someone who doesn't want it". I personally understand it as people not being whole and sharing those parts with others to create something that is whole, partners that can help when the other falls and all that. But this lack also includes your insecurities and weaknesses. To show weakness and insecurity is extremely important for a relationship to work, and it's also the goal of "woke" positive masculinity movements to normalize men showing weakness and insecurity.
(Most fans will absolutely flip out when you point out that both Leto II and Paul were explicitly examples of leaders making people suffer for their own benefit)
Yeah... I don't believe that all media is inheretly political, but, like, the people who always complain about politics will always point to, like, Call of Duty or Bioshock or FUCKING METAL GEAR as games without politics and you just know that they either don't know what the word means or have zero media literacy.
To be devil’s advocate, MG1 had basically no politics, but that was also a much more rudimentary game.
COD is, well. A lot of the players don’t bother with the politics cause they just wanna shoot the guy. And a lot of the campaigns are pretty bad. What political message would you even get from CoD beyond “most problems can be solved with an assault rifle and cool explosions”?
Now let's say your right that american politics isn't politcs than what is it. theological debates against/for theology, philosophical debates on who can win the minds of more people and whso more correct or economic debates on how to get the most money so what is it. some would say being theological philosophical or economical is political but we can also do the same backwards being political is theological philosophical and economical as those affect them too so in the end were left with one thing people like most is about everything. So why don't we just use the actual definition of words to classify them into actual groups and sperate them after all isn't that what labels are for we classify and sperate things based on the meaning we give them
I'm cool with any kind of message in media as long as it's not in your face about it. If you can enjoy a piece of media regardless of agreeing le disagreeing with the author's political view then it did a good job. Hell, if you don't know the author's political view by the end I'd say it's fantastic.
"I don't want politics in media!!!!!!!!!!!!" mfs when the political media's characters are mostly just white men (maybe East Asian characters are allowed but heavily depends om the context)
a good half of the classic comic book superheroes were made by jewish immigrants and are a reflection of the political turmoil they had to deal with due to their heritage. And the other half are dudes who are chill and work alongside the first half.
Politics and political themes are entirely different things. I don't want another bloody argument over AI or whatever just because the message of my favourite movie was "Be nice to people"
I once had to explain to someone complaining about modern writers putting politics (women) in warhammer that the Imperium would simply disappear if they got their wish
Tbh there’s a difference between media with politics (in universe), media with a political or social message, and media which is thinly used as a soapbox.
That last group (or media which is clearly an allegory for the current events) are things that can frustrate me.
Frustratingly now that I’ve made my point, I can’t think of any examples. I guess maybe that one show from crunchyroll about a hero academy that was atrocious? Low hanging fruit there though.
Probably doesn’t help that soap boxing like that goes hand in hand with being bad media.
we need to bring back comics where the good guys would just beat the shit out of nazis and kkk members. not some in universe alternative, the actual fucking bad guys we deal with in real life
I think there's a huge difference between
Politics in a setting for the sake of the theme and story and politics that are out of place only there as a mouthpiece for the writers hamfisted views making it borderline or just straight up propaganda.
The issue is that the message from the latter either comes from very inexperienced writers or they're so radicalized and obsessed with politics that it seeps like a poison to whatever they write.
It's the big 26 and people are still being purposely dense when other people say they don't want politics in their games. You can't make this shit up, man. Ya'll know what the phrase means. And everytime without fail there's people purposely misinterpreting what they're saying to push their agenda.
I'm tired of explaining these to stupid people over and over but I'll do it anyway. Politics that makes the story rich and fits in just fine is different from real and modern world politics being inserted in a fantasy setting. Casuals aren't stupid, they can tell the difference between the two. It's just you people acting dense to get those sweet internet points
Brother do you want xenomorphs making ur fucking anime, wdym no real world politics, unless the creator is a god of worldbuilding who thought of everything the fictional world WILL BE BASED ON IRL POLITICS
FREEDOM
IDENTITY
NATIONALISM AND COUNTRY POLITICS
ENVIROMENTALISM
ETC ETC, ALL BASED ON THE REAL WORLD AND HUMAN MORALS AND EMOTIONS BECAUSE WE'RE ALL HUMAN, IT WILL REFLECT THE REAL WORLD AND HUMAN OPINIONS NO MATTER WHAT, EVEN IF THE AUTHOR DIDN'T MEAN TO BECAUSE IRL LEADERS CANT STOP BEING INSPIRED BY THE WORST THINGS EVER 😭
BTW im not gonna be dense to ur take u just worded it wrong, you probs just dont like when people overly try to link the fictional politics to irl ones through death of an author .some advice is to just ignore it because the people doing that are doing it because thats how you're meant to analyse text or even taught to. and plus you may not have the context of the people talking. a non american would look at the dungeon meshi orcs and be like "heh classic amuricans" and an american would forget that japan lowkenuinely did a genocide and only analyse it through the lens of american racism THATS NORMAL THATS HOW U DO IT
imo thats still fine like you're developing your ideas on how these topics are approaced as a third party, it characterizes the characters in a more natural way, plus it adds to the world in a great way YOU DONT JUST DENY IT EXISTS
Haha gladly. Note that I'll only list franchises that I like and not some randoms. Of course I would only care if the progressives got their hands on my favorite franchises:
The new gears of war E-day for example: mags Carter is the real protagonist of the game and not Marcus and Dom. And the writers don't need to tell you straight up that she's the main character. You just need to focus on how much dialogue she has compared to Marcus and Dom, and the objectives. The few times Marcus and Dom speaks is to agree with mags. Not to mention most of the captains we meet in the game are that of the female gender. Even the leader of the resistance is a woman. In gears of war, women are extremely valuable. As much as possible the cog avoids enlisting them in the army unless shit gets desperate. The few women of the cog have to really earn their positions to be taken seriously. Seeing this much female cogs in a prequel of gears is immersion breaking. Cos where was this in the first game? You mean to tell me humanity is only successfully advancing for victory when all of these girlbosses in the cog were gone? Kinda based if you asked me.
The new wolverine. All the characters in this game look hella ugly I'm gonna say it. It reflects the characters of the people who were making this game. Ugly on the outside and inside. They can't help but make these hot characters of the comic books look like an eye sore. Wolverine looks like he's always on the verge of crying. Troy baker and Debra Wilson is straight up in the game. Why am I seeing real celebrity faces on my comic book videogame? And he can't get shit done and always needs strong women to bail him out. He can handle the freaking hulk but passes out when fighting a character like lady Deathstrike? Who are we kidding here?
The legend of Korra: man oh man we would be here all day if I take my time with this. So let's just say that they decided to make Korra gay in the last second of the show so it goes out with a bang cos it's irrelevant af as a standalone and the writers needed some spice for people to talk about it. Korra is an awful representation of the lgbt especially lesbians imo. If you see her as an icon, your standards for your own people's representation are extremely low. You deserve better.
The recent halo 1 remake: yeah nobody really likes seeing a girlboss ridicule and insult master chief everytime she's on screen. Even her squad are mostly women. Shit's so ridiculous even the og devs have to call it out. I'm playing a videogame. Insulting master chief means insulting me as the one who controls chief. And I don't appreciate it when these arrogant writers insult me. Their politics always revolve around bringing icons down in order to raise themselves up.
Skullgirls: I like this one but it's heartbreaking seeing it's current state because the og devs let some undesirables in their team. The undesirable in return kicked the og team out and made the game however they want it. They start inserting real life announcements like sharing donations to BLM back then. They also removed one of the characters' origin story which revolves around him being a victim of race prejudice. They also removed the arm bands of the army of the game cos they look like Nazis.
For reference, here are the things I like that has politics or religious context in it: Genshin impact, team fortress 2, blasphemous, Hitman series, Superman (2025), gears of war trilogy, old call of duty games, GTA San Andreas, one piece, Wolfenstein games, code Geass, squid game, steel ball run, my hero academia.
The issues I have with modern politics in media basically boils down to millennial writing. Cos millennials have no respect on the things they work on. They'll just insert their own thing even if it doesn't make sense in the context of the story they're working on. I forgot to say this but when I say fantasy, I don't literally mean medieval fantasy like lord of the rings type. Fantasy as in fiction in general. Fiction IS fantasy in itself. It's the fantasy of the mind, it's supposed to be an escape to reality, not a reminder of it.
I feel the need to say this but modern politics in fiction CAN work, if the writers put in the effort. Extreme feminism without the environment that lead to it's creation is questionable. For example: Women will not demand to fight in the front lines if they live in a very dangerous era, unless a select few actively choose to. Modern feminism only works when the only danger left in society are the men who protected these women from the dangers of the outside. Some type of feminist rally were attempted throughout history, but they were quickly shut down cos they are acting crazy and the men who rule those times don't fuck around with craziness
Mfw that one clown got all the way to meeting the deserter at the end of Disco Elysium and then tried to pull that "tHiS gAmE hAd BeTtEr NoT gEt PoLiTiCal" bullshit.
