Tipping - Santa Fe?
Curious to hear everyone’s thoughts. Do you tip at the window for Santa Fe when picking up breakfast burritos?

Why would I tip? For the great job they did picking my burrito up out of the heater and handing it to me?
Excellent job here’s 20%

Of course not. You only tip when you are sitting down when you're served.

Yes. A buck.

Lmao why are people downvoting anybody who says they tip. Why would anybody be upset that other people are tipping

Because I’m “perpetuating tipping culture. The owners should just pay them more!”
I see it as making sure my friends and neighbors make a decent living. Including the owners, who are literally my friends and neighbors.

Absolutely not. And they jacked their prices $2 in the egg shortage, the owner said was for food cost. Even then the maybe 2 eggs in there was $.50 more. Now costs are down and surprise still $13

The joy people on this sub have for shitting on Sante Fe is astonishing.
I go there about once a week. Their breakfast burritos are delicious. It makes me happy to walk there and get one. Does the quality vary sometimes from burrito to burrito? Sure. Did the price go up $2? I don’t know, I guess this guy says so. If they ever were to close, I’d be super sad to lose them.
And here you’ve got this guy, who posts on Reddit about how he’s got 600k in tech stocks and makes 150x his rent, tearing down this business because he thinks Santa Fe is lying about egg prices to scam him out of a $1.50.
This is such a spot on caricature of the terrible people who live in this neighborhood that I’m not sure this isn’t just performance art.

If you like their burrito then that’s fine, but every time I’ve been there the food has just been pretty mid. It’s okay, I don’t hate it but won’t recommend. And just because you have money doesn’t mean going out to a lot of places in this neighborhood doesn’t feel like you’re mildly being taken for a ride.

There are posts on google maps. It was $11 less than 2 years ago.
Youre nuts talking about performance. Its. Very basic breakfast burrito. Its like 2 eggs, has brown, some bacon bits, green chile and the wrap. $13 for that is steep and they jacked prices under the cover of egg increase.
Im glad you enjoy it. I do too and go once every other week. But it has objectively become a poor value.

If as a culture we have decided its rude to not tip at least a dollar to a bartender for a beer being opened at a bar, the LEAST we can do is agree when a staff has done all the prep work, cooking, assembly and cleaning up of food for me so I dont have to, logically all that work is worth AT LEAST a dollar as well.
If we can afford to privilege and convenience to eat out, we can afford a dollar for the people involved with providing us sustenance.
Bonus bit: By going in person and avoiding using 3rd party apps that raise the prices, charge a service fee, and a delivery fee from you, you have saved at least $5, with this logic I would hope one sees how one dollar more for tip shouldn't be a question but the expectation from all of us who are customers.

Aren't businesses supposed to cover standard operations just to sell their food? Otherwise, how am I even supposed to buy it? It's like grabbing a simple coffee, is there a way to avoid that extra dollar? Can I just serve myself? At this point, there is no defending tipping culture, it just needs to die. Unfortunately, this bad habit has now infected a lot of counties around the world. Even at a self-checkout screen in the Frankfurt airport, the system has the nerve to ask for a tip

I've started tipping cashiers at bodegas. I had to interrupt a cashier last night who was on the phone while he rang me up. I actually failed to get his attention so I just left a couple 1s like you would at a bar.
Felt good doing the right thing.

I’m a bit short on cash this month after I stepped up my tip to my landlord from 15% to 20% so only tip the bodega guy when ordering a hot sandwich.

I tip at any quick service establishment, just less than a full service one

I even tip random people on the street now. It’s rude to just walk past people. People think that other people just move out of the way out of the goodness of their heart.

Yall really not tipping your baristas or bartenders either?

u/bobdownie 15h ago
Yall really don’t find it weird that the service industry jobs that attract the most financially desperate people are the jobs we have deemed unworthy of tips?

I tipped your mom last night for her quick service. She really made my night

I would feel weird paying your mother for sex. She and I do it for the love of the game.

If you tip bartenders, baristas, and delivery people, I can't imagine not tipping them at least a dollar. If everyone did that, it would actually make a decent difference to them.

Bartenders, baristas, and delivery people all do considerably more than simply handing you a pre-made item. They deserve a tip, and if they don’t do their job correctly you can withhold that tip.
A cashier does not deserve a tip. They can’t even fuck up what they do - there’s no quality of service, it’s a binary “did you do what you get paid an hourly wage for” or not.
If a cashier wants a tip, they can go do a job that deserves a tip.

No, they’re premade….
