This is hard to believe

So 12 days ago i had an extraction of my lower back wisdom tooth because it bled and my entire mouth smelt like literal human feces (i am not kidding). It was a simple extraction and i was not given anything else i was just told to leave it alone and wait.

2 days ago i went for a checkup and the dentist noticed there was secretion in and from the wound. So she did a rebleeding (i dont know the details of any of that). She said it wasn't infected and that im not back to day 1 of healing but at the same time i should treat this as a completely new and fresh wound.

Well, just a few hours later, it already started to look significantly smaller and as if the surface was already washed away. I sent photos to my dentist and he (yes he because its a married couple they switch in treating me) replied that its fine as long as i don't feel any pain.

Which is weird, because i never felt any pain at all anyways. I didn't feel any pain when the wound had secretions and yet it needed taking care of it. I never felt any pain from the wisdom tooth when ut was still there yet it needed taking care of. So i don't understand why pain is still the differentiating factor especially when in my case historically it never was at any point.

Mind you, i already had 3 extractions in the past, and none of those had these issues, and im not doing anything different today than i did back then. I drink slowly one the other side of the mputh and i also only eat soft almost liquidy cold foods on one side of the mouth. I also only eat and drink very little to minimize strain. I still havent received any antibiotics and im afraid that this wound will not heal and that it will bring me actual serious problems. This is how it currently looks like.

I don't know what to do, and how to approach my dentist and express my concerns and logic without making it seem like a confrontation. The picture where its white is how it looksblike right now after spooning a creamy thuna spread. And the red one was just an hour before i ate. They said it should look fine in 10 days. But how? They havent changed any of the factors as a matter of fact they havent even identified any of the factors/causes as to why it didnt work the first time. Why would it work now suddenly?

Bone graft wisdom teeth

I’m getting my wisdom teeth taken out Monday and the dentist recommended a bone graft saying as I get older my gums will sunk down because of bone loss . Medi cal will pay for the wisdom teeth but they did not seem bone graft necessary to pay for . I went in to the office last time and they recommended bone graft for the others as well . Is this like a cash grab offices do? It will be 1300 for both wisdom teeth. Please help

Is it a good/bad sign

Can anyone see the "split" area? Tbh idk how my tooth was removed, but I assumed the dentist cuts my gum back there?

Okay the real question is, is it a good/bad sign? It's just been 85 hours since my surgery and when I tried to make jaw movement, the split area that i circled was moving too like in these pics. Yesterday, they were completely closed and i just realised that theyve became like this because i had to talk a lot today and at some point i think i opened my jaw a little bit too wide and i kinda feel a minimal pain there which caused me to overthink whether my stitch got opened/gum got teared.

I rarely talk to anyone for the past two days because im scared if the stitches got loose and I strictly followed the rules including torturing myself for consuming liquid only😔😔

pain description rn: in average for 10s, i can feel a small pain through my nerve

hey all! im 22/f, got my bottom two wisdom teeth extracted like 5 days ago. It was a full bony impaction but went super smoothly. they never gave me anything to reduce the swelling, so once my anesthesia wore off i was doubled over in pain from how bad my jaw and chin was hurting…not to mention not being able to eat properly is lowkey killing me like bro i just want a burger and fries… but waking up every morning is when my pain is the worst. my pain now isnt even pain from the extraction site. since i cant open my mouth, my jaw is just throbbing in horrid pain. ive also been dealing with a migrane that hasnt allowed me to sleep properly. i cant even take meds for THAT since the meds im on for recovery dont mix well, and so im hoping the ibuprofen locks in and takes it away…

is there a light at the end of the tunnel? i dont think i have dry socket, since this pain is more just annoying pain under my jaw as opposed to the worst pain ive ever felt in my life, cuz ive def felt worse than this. (im a girl, iykyk.) i go back to work next week, i just wanna be normal again :((

I've never felt any pain or whatsoever on my wisdom teeth. But two years ago I had cavities on my last molar(all the last four teeth in upper and lower jaw).

This is for anyone like me, who was freaking out because all their friends/coworkers go their wisdom teeth out in high school :) My mom has a dental phobia plus we grew up poor, so having anything other than check-ups was not in the cards for me as a kid. I got invisalign 2 years ago and finally got my pesky wisdom teeth out! It got bad when my two right wisdom teeth were erupting and I couldnt chew on that side for more than a week.

Anyway, I was extremely anxious about the surgery and potential nerve damage, since my bottom molars (the right one especially) were near the nerve. I don't have any numbness or nerve issues that I can tell of yet! I basically fasted as I was told to, had my boyfriend as my DD, and I was checked in at 8:00am. I payed extra for a PRF, which was strongly recommended for those bottom two molars. They hooked me up to a monitor, and blood pressure reader, and then took blood/hooked me up to the IV and began the PRF process. Then, the dentist came in, asked a few questions, and the last thing I remember being told was "This one is for anxiety..." while he began pushing things into the IV. I was given "Twilight sedation" which I believe is usually a mixture of anti anxiety/ketamine/other drug?

Anyway, I maybe woke up once but don't remember anything at all that happened during the surgery! Next thing I knew, I had gauze in my mouth, and was unplugged from all the devices! I assume they let me have some time to wake up, and they gave my boyfriend post-op instructions along with everything I'd need, and even some black tea bags. I was also extremely anxious about saying something stupid after the surgery but according to my boyfriend I was just in a "very good mood"

I ate yogurt, blended lukewarm broccoli soup, and a protein shake with 0 sugar for dinner yesterday, along with a liquid IV the dentist gave me. I have mild soreness in my jaw, but have been taking motrin to help. I do have a more severe chipmunk face today! I was able to eat runny eggs this morning, along with mashed potatoes and took 2 sips of my boyfriend's warm coffee just to avoid caffeine withdrawal headache. Hoping it's not too much worse from here on out! Most painful feeling I've had since the surgery is some tenderness when I touch my jawbone with my hand. But I've been icing mostly all day with those face-mask icepaks!

Hope this helps!

I'm terrified of getting my wisdom teeth removed and have been putting it off for a year

My bottom 2 are causing me pain and swelling now but I'm still scared of pain and possibility of nerve damage and dry socket.. I don't know how to get over my fear of the recovery pain when I've heard people say it's the worst pain they've ever felt especially with impacted teeth. This x ray was from a year ago , I've no idea how much they've shifted since then

Reassuring post with my experience

34/F and had lower left deeply impacted wisdom tooth removed 8 days ago with local anaesthetic (I wanted sedation but wasn’t allowed as it clashed with my medication - so I was pretty nervous about this!) Surgeon had a chat with me to check I definitely didn’t want to go to hospital and have sedation/general anaesthetic where I can be monitored properly as it was a complicated removal and the tooth was deeply impacted. I decided to be brave and go for it!

Procedure was quick - about 20 mins and honestly no where near as bad as I expected. No pain just drilling and pressure. We could stop for breaks and the staff were really kind. It was just like getting a filling but more intense.

Recovery: I have followed my surgeon’s instructions as best I can and not had any issues. I’ve taken pain killers/antibiotics and set alarms so I don’t forget, I’ve stuck to soft foods and eating on the other side, I didn’t rinse for the first 24hrs and then used corsodyl and salt water. Pain peaked on days 3-4 when my bruise showed up and then I went back to work on day 6 and felt not much pain, just discomfort by day 7. I was worried about dry socket but I think if you’re the type of person who is worried about it and following all the rules and reading Reddit posts about how to avoid it - you’re probably very very unlucky if it happens to you.

Top tip is definitely to buy one of those jaw bra ice packs from Amazon! They have ice pack inserts you can swap in and out and they really help!

It honestly it no where near as bad as I expected and the surgeons have to go through worst case scenarios with you so keep that in mind too.

Sharing my experience as this page helped a lot with my recovery!

Traumatic tongue ulcer - Post wisdom teeth extraction

Just wanted to let you guys know that if you end up in the same boat as I did, with a traumatic ulcer, it goes away. Lol

A traumatic ulcer can be caused by the surgery like if the surgeon cuts your tongue on accident with a tool. It looks like a huge white spot on your tongue. That’s what happened to me. Unfortunately, the pain is insane since it was on the side of my tongue! I couldn’t eat well from days 7-9 post surgery. Acidic foods and drinks would cause it to sting, even though my wisdom teeth wounds didn’t hurt at all. It resolves within 2 weeks or less from when you notice it & the pain peaks at around day 8. It sucked, but I’m almost past it. I’m on day 11 since I got my left wisdom teeth extracted. Hope this helps!

How are you guys checking up on your sockets if you can’t open your mouths?

My wisdom teeth were removed a few days ago and I’d like to check on the sockets to see my progress but I still can’t open my mouth far enough. How are people taking photos or checking on it in these instances? Am I missing something?

Hi, I just woke up anxious because of my removed Wisdom tooth. Two days ago it looked a bit like a “pimple” but I did not have any pain or fever so I just continued cleansing my mouth with chlorhexidine. Now I woke up totally anxious, I am scared of infection, sepsis, of dying… I think it looks better today and I checked my temperature, no fever, no pain, I am just a bit sore in the side of my jaw, but nothing painful. Should I Call my dentist or doctor???

Advice / Tips! IV sedation experience?

Post image
9 Upvotes

I plan on getting all four wisdom teeth out this Monday + two molars that never sprouted as they are causing some issues & already have damage from the wisdoms colliding with em. I will be getting IV sedation, and id love to hear stories of how it went for somebody who has also gotten IV sedation as it's my first time lol. I'm not spooked or nervous for the removal itself, just the unknown feeling of how it'll be with the IV in gives me the creeps. Any advice appreciated!

Any tips to recover from 4 wisdom teeth removed?

2 days ago, I had 4 of my wisdom teeth removed. At first it was all good I didn’t really feel any prominent pain it was just minor discomfort but now my gums are bleeding and and it hurts whenever I try to even remotely move my jaw. I can’t drink or eat without feeling a sharp pain in my gums. I tried taking Advil and applying those like plastic packs that freeze up when you put it in the freezer but nothing helps and I can’t sleep at night from the pain. If anyone has any suggestions please comment then I’ll take anything atp

Day 5 after lower wisdom tooth removal, spat pink blood at 5am, worried about the clot

Hey all, I had one lower wisdom tooth out 5 days ago. Pain hasn't really gone away yet. I traveled today and kept moving my jaw a lot because of the pain, so that probably didn't help.

Tonight I did a salt water rinse and saw some blood in the sink, then let out some pinkish blood after. It seems to have calmed down now and I don't see any active bleeding. When I look, I can still see a dark spot in the socket, which I'm hoping is the clot.

Does this sound like normal healing or should I be worried about dry socket? Anyone had something similar around day 5?

Dry socket?

Post image

There was a dry socket here but the dentist put something in it and said it was supposed to fall out and it finally did after a like 3 days. Anyways now it’s just like a hole but it doesn’t hurt yet. It’s been a week since I’ve got my wisdom teeth removed, are things looking okay?

Barley able to open mouth

I’m on day 4 of wisdom teeth post op and I can barley open my mouth I’m dying to see the holes and how it’s healing I got all 4 wisdom teeth out +2 molars but I can’t get my mouth open wide enough to even see is that normal? I feel like my jaw is locked and every-time I try to open it wider it makes my head hurt and my jaw. I’m scared it’s not healing good and I can’t even see to tell because my mouth can’t open wide at all. I also have this taste in my mouth idk if it’s normal but I’ve been brushing my teeth and flossing as good as I can I’ve been salt water rinsing after every “meal”but it’s still here
Today is the first day I’ve had swelling but it’s really not that bad you can’t really even tell I’m swollen I also ate a very soggy grilled cheese today idk if that’s okay to do or not but it was hard to eat I’m so tired of this food I want taco bell sooooooooo bad 🥲 I’m also exhausted I feel like I can’t get enough sleep the first 3 nights I didn’t sleep at all last night was the first night I got more then a 1 hour of sleep.

Please let me know if me not being able to open my mouth good is normal or not. I’ve also had a horrible head ache behind my eyes and at my temples since last night.

I’m scared for tomorrow (Don’t know why I’m making this post I’m just venting and procrastinating i think)

I’m on the night of Day 0 (Had surgery to remove both my impacted lower 2nd molars about 12 hours ago around noon) and now it’s around midnight and I obviously need to get some sleep. But I’ve read in lots of places that the pain, stiffness, soreness, everything will just be worse tomorrow and that I’m apparently still under the effects of whatever they gave me during surgery, which makes sense because I’ve not taken any painkillers yet and it’s only sore right now and fairly somewhat bearable. And I’ve only just got the bleeding to slow basically to a halt where I’m not tasting it constantly, apparently there’s a good chance I wake up to it bleeding again tomorrow

Admittedly I’m terrified of the pain, I know I’m probably exaggerating but I feel like I’m living in the beginning of what’s gonna be a long nightmare of mine. It’s why I’ve put this surgery off for some long but I finally but the bullet and did it. I just have to endure this recovery now I know.

I’m actively putting off going to sleep right now because I’m not ready for what I’m almost 100% certain I’m gonna experience from the second I wake up tomorrow. And this is only day zero and I’m miserable, I know I won’t think this once I’m healed (whenever that’ll be) but I’m sitting here right now scared and feeling like I made a mistake :(((

Upper Right Removed

I was just seeing if anyone else has dealt with this or not. About 7-8 weeks ago I was woken up in the middle of the night from grinding my teeth but I had this horrible pressure in my upper gums and cheek and nose area. I ended up progressing to being there almost all of the time. I went to the doctor THREE times and they just kept telling me I had sinusitis, but I knew I didn’t because I had no other symptoms other than sinus pressure. I pushed for a sinus x-ray and that’s where they found upper impacted wisdom teeth. I just had my right one removed on Tuesday morning and go back in a week for a follow up to check all of it and schedule the left extraction. I was just wondering if anyone else has ever had this pressure feeling from it? When I look on Google it says it’s pretty normal for impacted upper wisdoms to cause the pain because of their proximity to the sinus cavity, but I never see anyone else complain about this specific type of pain.

What to do if I run out of gauze?

I got my wisdom teeth removed this morning. All 4.

I’m resting and letting the gauze do its thing, but I’m starting to run concerningly low.

Unfortunately I don’t have anyone who can get more for me, and I’m sure at this point I may run out before the bleeding stops.

Could use any recommendations on what to do if I do run out.
