Announcement Whose dog is it in Cordeaux Heights deadass 💀

Yeah dogs pre hard like we got one too but genuinely bro most nights whoever is in cordeaux their dog does not stop. Like seriously just kinda get the dawg to calm down surely a lil bit? Don't think i'll write a complaint ever but like surely get em to chill a bit whoever it is.

EDIT: Good afternoon, after backlash from the community I have decided to re - write my post. I would just like to establish, my post is not hate towards the owner or their dog, merely just expressing my slight discomfort. Someone in that vicinity has a dog that barks regularly at night. It barks sometimes early into the night and sometimes late. While I understand that having a dog is a challenging experience for all individuals sometimes, I ask that whoever owns this dog may please look into training the dog to not bark.

Wollongong business owners — I’m looking for a mentor and happy to mentor someone starting out

Bit of a different post for the Wollongong crowd. I've been in business a long time, started an asphalt company with a $30k truck and grew it into a seven figure operation, and these days I also work as a divisional manager running a large recycling operation and managing around 50 people. I've learnt plenty about sales, quoting, staff, cashflow, leadership, customers and what happens when things go wrong, usually the expensive way. I'm at a point now where I'd love to connect with someone older or more experienced than me who's built something serious and is happy to share some knowledge. I'm always trying to learn and I know there are people around the Illawarra with decades of experience I could learn a lot from. On the other side of that, if your younger, starting a business, trying to get your first customers or just need someone who's been through it to bounce ideas off, I'm happy to help there too. I'm not selling coaching or a course, I'd just like to build a better network of people locally who are willing to help each other. If your an experienced business owner who's open to mentoring, or someone starting out who could use a bit of guidance, send me a message. Happy to grab a coffee, jump on a call or just have a yarn.

Hey all,

Looking to join a gym. Suggest me some good place to workout. I live in figtree.

Will be heading to the gym usually after 7pm. I need someplace less crowded. So If you guys can suggest what is the ideal time to get a less crowded gym?

PS: I used to be in weightlifting for 6 years straight left. Stopped it post covid

Thinking of buying a townhouse in Balgownie and renting a room out (with a toddler). How is the sharehouse market there?

Hi everyone,

I’m currently considering purchasing a townhouse in Balgownie for myself and my toddler. I’ve previously rented out spare rooms in Sydney with absolutely no issues finding housemates, but I'm completely unfamiliar with the Balgownie rental ecosystem.

I’m hoping to get some local insight on a few things:

  • Rental Demand: Is it difficult to find flatmates in Balgownie, or is there a steady stream of people looking in the area?
  • Public Transport / Uni Students: The townhouse is located very close to the main street/village. Is it easy for a university student to catch a bus or a shuttle from there to the University of Wollongong (UOW) campus?
  • The Setup: The room itself would have its own private balcony, and I’d be offering it at a very reasonable, fair rent.
  • The Toddler Factor: Since I have a toddler, I know my demographic pool might change compared to my previous Sydney sharehouse experiences. Do people generally mind living with a young child if the price and room are great?

Would love to hear from anyone living in Balgownir or anyone who has managed a sharehouse in the northern suburbs. Thanks in advance!

Making more friends

Hey,

Im a 22M who moved to Wollongong about 5 months ago. I've been trying to make friends but I feel like im not making much headway very fast. I've joined a social footy league (urban rec, which might help I'm only on week 2 of it), I've got 2 jobs as a barista and then as a bartender, both places everyone is friendly but they've all already got their groups. I've got a board game group I see sometimes as well but I want people I can go out for drinks and see a bit more often. Does anyone have advice?? I'm not a student so idk if i can join student clubs

Engineering work experience

Just putting it out there, does anyone know any engineering firms that do high school work experience?

I've reached out to a couple of contacts who don't take work experience kids anymore and I'm about to make my 15yo start cold calling, but I thought maybe reddit can help.

Not really worried about specific fields, he's expressed an interest in doing some kind of engineering at uni so we're just looking for something related to get his work experience done.

Looking for local gays

Hey hey, I’m a mid 40’s gay dude looking to make some platonic connections with other gay men in their 40’s. I like hiking and doing random, high energy activities. But also enjoy quiet times, watching movies, playing card games and Zelda. I recently got a motorcycle and would be down to visit new cafes during a ride.

I’m pretty open to new activities too, so if you’re looking to make a new acquaintance, nothing suss, then hit me up :)

Home-video/simple style wedding videography?

My fiancé and I are undecided about whether we want to bite the bullet and hire a wedding videographer for our wedding in 2027. We’d love to have a keepsake of our ceremony and speeches to watch in the future and share with our kids, but we’re not really into the style of most contemporary wedding videography we’ve seen.

We’d love something more like a home video of the day and reception, similar to our parents’ wedding videos from the 80s and 90s. Something candid that captures the day as it happened, rather than a highly edited, trailer-style video optimised for social media, which seems to be what most companies are advertising at the moment.

We’re pretty naive when it comes to the videography industry, but we’re also assuming that the kind of video we want might be a bit more budget-friendly, given there’d theoretically be less editing, directing and creative vision involved.

We really don’t want our wedding day to feel like a production and would love something we can look back on for years to come.

Does anyone know of any videographers or companies in Wollongong who offer this kind of service? Or is this style of wedding video lost to history?

Best mode of transport to the Airport

What is the best way for an airport drop-off? I'm travelling in Febuary, departure from WSI but arrival at SYD. That rules out parking at the airport. We are a family of 4, including a toddler. Public transport is a nightmare with 2 kids and luggage.

How do you usually reach the airport? Uber? Taxi? Any other service? How much does it cost?

Collies in town 😳

Some of the great examples I’ve heard for cheap food in town

“Chinese takeaway” - dog food
“Meat pie” - primary school is over
“Quarter chicken & small salad from Cole’s” - Cole’s doesn’t sell quarter chickens

Looking to get back into the workforce (just a little side job type thing) with someone who’s ‘recovering’ agoraphobia

I’m looking for a bit of an opportunity to get back into work and would really appreciate any suggestions or leads. Ideally in Shellharbour area.

I’ve lived with agoraphobia for the past 5 years, and while it’s been a long road, I’m finally starting to get out of the house more and more and I really want to keep pushing myself and get my life back.

I’d love a chance to get into something like a local corner shop, small convenience store, tobacconist or something similar. Ideally, somewhere that isn’t too overstimulating to start with, where I can build my confidence back up, get into a routine and work my way up from there.

I’m happy to use public transport and I’m not expecting anything to be handed to me. I’d just really appreciate someone giving me a shot. Even 1 or 2 days a week to begin with would be amazing.

I have previous customer service experience and I’m willing to learn. I know getting back into the workforce after being out of it for a while can be difficult, but I’m genuinely motivated and ready to give it a go.

I’ve made this post anonymously for privacy reasons, but I’m more than happy to message or have a phone call with anyone who might have an opportunity or some advice.

Thanks so much for taking the time to read this. It would honestly mean a lot.

Young Street Medical ADHD Diagnosis?

I am curious to know if anyone has undergone an ADHD assessement with Christina Gray at Young Street Medical? I have been looking at psychiatrists, but this appears to be a more accessible route. Obviously ADHD GPs are a really new thing, so I would love to hear anyone's experience :)

I think my main concern is that in the case that ADHD is not the correct diagnosis, that a GP may not have the correct training to be able to suggest possible alternatives. But also I am just curious to know what the vibe is at YSM.

Tl;dr: looking for reviews on Dr Christina Gray/YSM

UOWD → UOW Australia transfer: what do you wish you’d known before moving?

Hi everyone! I’m currently at UOWD doing a Bachelor of Business (Accountancy), started late 2025, and I’m thinking about transferring to UOW Wollongong after Year 1.

For anyone who’s made the move from UOWD (or another offshore campus) to UOW Australia, what do you wish you’d known before transferring?

A few things I’m especially curious about:

Process: How long did the credit transfer and offer take? Any issues with session timing (trimesters vs Autumn/Spring)?

Visa: How long did your student visa take, and any tips to avoid delays?

Costs: What did you actually spend per month on rent, food and transport compared to what you expected?

Accommodation: UOW housing vs private rental, and what would you pick again?

Part-time jobs: How easy was it to find work in Wollongong?

Social life: How long did it take to settle in and make friends, coming from Dubai?

Accounting/ACCA: Anyone continue ACCA after transferring, or switch to CPA Australia?

After graduating: Did you stay in Australia (485 visa / PR), and was the transfer worth it for your career?

Would you do it again? Any honest advice, good or bad, is really appreciated. Thanks!
