Question Orange Classical Elements?
I’m making an Element System for a card game and I’ve come up with most of the elements
🔴 - Fire
🟠 - ???
🟡 - Aether/Spirit
🟢 - Earth
🔵 - Water
🟣 - Dark/Void
The Elements also fit into my “Counter Wheel.”
Water -> Fire -> Earth -> Aether -> Dark
The problem with my current system is that it’s basically just the Magic: the Gathering Mana Wheel. I want to make it a bit more unique. The new element would have to fit between to elements (able to be countered and counter another element). Any ideas are appreciated!

Larfleeze sees this post. He takes the color orange away from you, and exclaims, "Mine!"

I'd probably make earth orange and green air

Lightning maybe, since that feels like a bridge between fire and spirit. I'm not sure what word I'd use for it, but yeah.

Just for giggles: here are the color associations of my 9-element system:
- 🟠Fire
- 🔵Water
- 🟤Stone/Metal
- 🔴Flesh
- 🟢Wood (that''s supposed to be green)
- ⚫Earth/Soil
- 🟣Storm
- 🟡Wind/Air/Breath
- ⚪Sky/Fate

Couldn't you make stone/metal black, earth/soil green, and wood brown?

Yes, but I generally treat those as secondary colors:
- Fire: Orange, red, yellow
- Water: Blue, green, white
- Stone: Brown, gray, white
- Flesh: Red, white, black
- Wood: Green, brown, white
- Earth: Black, brown, yellow
- Storm: Purple, yellow, gray
- Wind: Yellow, white, gray
- Sky: White, black, purple

electricity/energy was my first thought. could counter water, be countered by earth?
Maybe wood? growth? rot/decay?

Fire and light - like radiance or holy power - can be two different things. I’ve always imagined “radiant” attacks in DnD to be this pale orange sort of light.

Separate Earth into Earth and Nature-- green is plant/nature, orange is stone/metal

You could change orange to fire and red to something like blood, or move Aether to orange and make yellow be gold (a classical element in ancient Chinese philosophy)

Brown is usually a dark orange, and while "earth" can be interpreted as plantlife, i think the two could reasonably be separated into earth, which can take orange, and some dominion over flora to take up green. Would it be so different from command over life?

If you’re making it a wheel I’d recommend Orange as fire so that Orange/Fire and blue/water are across from each other. Red as earth and green as air might work then. Dark/purple and light/yellow also work already (light being tied to spirit/leavening, dark being tied to dampening)
Of course this could be a short leap or a large one from what you already have. Feel free to pick and choose

I'd add wood for plants to green, move earth and spirit up a slot and be done with it. This way you have water feeding plants that then enrich the earth and so on.

I would have used orange for Earth, because brown is just dark desaturated orange and brown=earth while green is more about either living plants.

Death, entropy.
And not as a bad thing.
Leaves turn orange before they die and move on to their next stage of existence.
Roots, carrots, thrive underground without light, being part of a system where they specialize in doing one part of life, and another end of the system gathers light.

Look into other element lists, you don't have Wood, Metal, Gold, Holy, Boron, or Milla Jovovich.

I realized I’ve forgotten some details!
For simplicity, I treat Aether the same as Light, and some Aether abilities are related to flashes/blinding enemies.
Also, the Counter wheel is a literal wheel (Water counters fire, Fire, Earth, Aether, Dark counters water, Repeat)
I was thinking something like Weather or Sky but idk.
I’m open to switching up the colors a bit

It’s really simple: you just make Fire Orange.
This frees up Red, a much more meaningful color, to be whatever you want. Healing? Fighting? Blood? Even maybe Holy magic.
