Dude, it was Musk cus he was big mad about losing his bots right before the midterms.

Trump and his admin are too moronic to even know that cutting access was a possibility or what that would accomplish.

Twitter, Reddit, facebook, tons of social media is infested with bot farms from Russia, China, North Korea or any country trying to sway US politics. It doesn’t cost them anything in the grand scheme, and it works.

Robert Muller in his report documented large efforts by Russia to influence and stir up division in the country, people don’t know about it because the media was too busy yelling about collusion, but this stuff is all detailed. The bots would post on racial, gender, immigration, whatever hot issue just to rile people up. A known example was them organizing a BLM protest and the counter protest.

Social media companies benefit because it drives engagement with the platform, and one of their main revenues is ads. The more users or unique visitors, the more value for ad space, and the controversial posts drive legitimate traffic to the site as well as increase the user count.
