Russia/Ukraine Italy calls US weakening of Ukraine a "major mistake", says Putin cannot be stopped this way
https://www.pravda.com.ua/eng/news/2026/10/17/8058469/963
u/Marketmanipulator941 10h ago
Why do people still pretend that America is against Russia?
337
u/Queasy_Local_7199 10h ago
America now supports Russia, fucking bonkers
189
u/Delamoor 9h ago
Openly. The US also just announced that the US will be building data centres in Russia.
There's absolutely no reason to do that except to have US resources and capital funnelled into Russian hands, building their infrastructure for them.
109
u/ihavenoidea12345678 9h ago
Hopefully Ukraine blows those up too
57
u/Somerandoguy212 8h ago
Then Trump gets what he wants. Ukraine "attacked" America and fox will run with that narrative. Soon America will be sending troops to help fight Ukraine
46
u/ihavenoidea12345678 8h ago
That’s the worst case scenario, and probably what Putin is nudging Trump towards.
And Trump does what Putin wants.
11
u/Itburns12345 6h ago
He didnt put them into the iran meatgrinder he sure as hell wont put them there , no euro nation would allow thrm access/passage anyway
7
u/Somerandoguy212 6h ago
He has to wait until after the midterms to send troops anywhere. All he does is threaten, but has been pretty adamant about "destroying them" after them.
5
u/Itburns12345 6h ago
After the midterms hes a lame duck at worst and possibly if we are lucky impeached!
And even then no euro nation would allow it..unless hes willing to send us troops to russia and enter that way
11
u/Positronic_Matrix 6h ago
Doubt. This absurdity is coming to an end shortly. As soon as Dems control the house we’ll be on a nonstop impeachment party train.
Impeachments don’t do anything and the Dems won’t pursue them? Wrong. They are incredibly damaging to Trump’s ego and reputation and it puts Dems on the offensive to rally the base.
10
u/knitnana 5h ago
That would be great, but as we have seen he doesn’t care what Congress does and will either veto things or ignore them. Look at the Russia sanction Congress just passed.
7
u/Positronic_Matrix 5h ago
The only thing that can be vetoed is a law. That veto can be overridden by a supermajority which was done once in his first term.
His executive order only blocks the 2026 Graham Act measures and does not dissolve older Russia-related sanctions. The only reason it worked on this is, that complicit Republicans put a dissolution clause in it that permitted Trump to override. That did not happen under the Biden congress and it will not happen when the Dems take the House.
Just because a layperson doesn’t understand politics or law does not mean that incoming Dems won’t. Expect bare-knuckled brawling. Due to Trump’s historical unpopularity, he’s going to become a political punching bag.
7
u/Pervius94 6h ago

Not laughing at all - you still believe that stuff?
I used to, but not anymore.
What makes you think more impeachments will do anything? What real, material consequence would he face from impeachment?

u/MrTriangular 3h ago edited 14m ago
Meanwhile, Russia strikes US businesses and personnel in Ukraine, and Trump doesn't make a peep about it.
EDIT: Russia is also helping Iran to strike US bases and troops in the Gulf.
•
u/Urtan_TRADE 1h ago
It's ridiculous. People in the US think they have "won" the cold war, while Russia never stopped fighting. The war just changed platforms. Russia spreads disinformation and corruption through the world like an infection or cancer and its gotten to a stage where the sickness is plainly visible.
My parents grew up in a former USSR country. They remember how Kremlin pushed the "evil and corrupted democratic west" propaganda down everyones throat. How they even used corruption and backstabbing as their policy to control their OWN people.
Like seriously, it was pretty common knowledge that there was a "rat" in every apartment block. A person who snitched on their neighbours to KGB for some meager extra cash or extra food ration stamps. You couldn't trust anyone and it created this insane amniosity between people.
Putin WAS in KGB. He knows how effective propaganda, distrust and hate are for creating conflict.
2
u/FindingRelevantInfo 7h ago
That's probably Trump and Putin's plan to have an excuse to have US side against Ukraine.
27
16
u/Lazy-Plankton5270 7h ago
It's not that bonkers it was years ago during his first term seppos were wearing better Russian than a democrat shirts
Even Hillary warned everyone on stage
It's just American voters are bonkers dumb

Donald Trump is the most unpopular president in US history. White Americans are the only demographic that support him as a majority.
10
u/Pervius94 6h ago
People always say republicans are unpopular their positions are unpopular their policies politicians are unpopular and whatnot and yet they get elected into the majorities of both chambers, the SCOTUS is majority republican, the majority of governourships is republican the president is republican etc. etc.
Almost like those polls are bullshit.
10
u/Rebelius 5h ago
He can be the most unpopular ever, but Americans are so stupid they wouldn't vote against him because Kamala has a funny laugh or something.
7
u/Alaus_oculatus 5h ago
Hey, you can't count out good ol' fashioned voter suppression, decades of propaganda, and election interference!
Seriously, States in the southern US make it exceptionally difficult to register to vote, and love to close polling locations in minority areas. It's classic Jim Crow laws with hazy justifications. I think people outside of the US don't realize there are 50 different voting rules in the US.
Propaganda is also huge. Rural areas get conservative talk radio and Fox News nearly all the time. GOP policies are always unpopular, since people will rarely choose them when no party is provided. But put the 'Magic R' next to a candidate and people will happily vote against their own best interests. People are primed to see the Democratic Party as 'evil', so won't vote for them. Add in most voters are uninformed or ill-informed, and here we are. People still act surprised about Trump 2.0 policies, when it was all literally written out in Project 2025.
6
u/vardarac 4h ago
I mean, the very structure of American government is bullshit.
Electoral college, Senate, we overrepresent land at the expense of people to avoid a supposed tyranny of the minority yet here we are going full balls deep into geopolitical suicide and for what? 33% of the country that sips from a "Don't Tread on Me" mug while dear leader helps countries bombing the shit out of innocent people...
1
u/eltrippero 3h ago
Nah our system was not designed thinking that almost everyone will live in a handful of states and in huge cities. Their design made it so minority rule is the political system of the USA and it needs to go away if we are to ever fix this country. Electoral college needs to go, senate needs to go, and congress needs to be apportioned appropriately to properly represent large populations as intended. If congress was apportioned correctly republicans would never have a majority in the house.
37
u/Platonic_Eye_Deal 10h ago
Because that is the talking point of the party that is supporting russia. And they are on by billionaires who also own most American media.
24
u/AdventurousCrow6580 9h ago
Why do we European still pretend the us is an ally - and the us population is educated?
-19
u/Free_Maintenance_722 8h ago
why doesn't the EU do more to fight Russia? Why is this the responsibility of the US? The Europeans could invade Russia and maybe end the war any time they wish but they won't.
13
u/AdventurousCrow6580 7h ago
The us does not do anything in ukraine. So please stop spreading fake news. It is all on Europe and Canada.
15
•
u/TheWaslijn 1h ago
Genuinely what are you expecting the EU to do more than they already are? EU already finances a whole lot of gear for Ukraine and gives a bunch of that, plus missiles and vehicles and the like regularly. What else is there?
Apart from joining the war directly, i guess... Which wouldn't be a good thing for anyone, y'know, nukes and all.
2
-2
u/wannabe-myself 10h ago
Because the bulk of the US is? No one is happy with this shit but Trump with his inner circle, and Russia. Even his mouth breather maga base mostly hate Russia.
41
u/Kind_Focus5839 9h ago
Doesn’t mean a thing if they don’t do anything about it.
-4
u/NomadFH 8h ago
Considering there have been weekly protests for his entire presidency, what are you suggesting the american people do about it?
6
u/AdventurousCrow6580 7h ago
Rather minor protest - a few 100.000 here and there. The largest had around 8m - out of 350m.
And even in the upcomming mid terms there are still massive amounts if voters that will vote pro-trump. This is 30s Germany all over again. But of course that requires you know your history
2
u/Rapph 4h ago edited 13m ago
You realize that the US is huge right? A person in texas not joining a large protest in NY is roughly equivalent to saying a person in turkey should join a protest in London. There are tons of smaller protests because people are spaced out very far. Not to say they cant do more but I think the scale is very relevant when it comes to why you dont see 20mil people in 1 spot
-7
u/_Ocean_Machine_ 8h ago
People living thousands of miles away want to watch a bloodbath
4
u/Oh_ffs_seriously 6h ago
But enough about reasons why USA is so intent on hobbling the defense of Ukraine.
23
u/drunkenbrawler 9h ago
The people who lead US foreign policy are pro Russia. The ones in charge. Who were put there by the American populace. What's your point again?
0
u/Automatic_Art_4469 4h ago
They weren’t out there by the American populace. The first 2 elections, he lost the popular vote even when he tried cheating. 2024 he cheated enough to win the popular vote too
15
u/AdventurousCrow6580 9h ago
But they do not do anything. It is a completely lame population. Maybe because there are no drive through protests??
2
4
u/Cavalish 8h ago
70% of the population either voted for this or refused to vote against it.
So yeah the vast majority of Americans support Russia.

Why do people still pretend Europe is against Russia?
They continue paying billions to them for energy, 14 years after Crimea was annexed on their doorstep.
$8.5 billion in the first nine months of this year alone. Enough to produce about 25,000 drones.
Oh wait I just remember why. Doesn’t fit the USA bad narrative being pushed here.

u/MasterBase82 1h ago
Share sources for your numbers mate: i'm really curious 😙😙😙 Germany and Italy were the top oil buyer from Russia, and now both of them have practically quit their import (and replace 10% and 30% of oil import is not easy). My sources are Eurostat and EU committe for energy. Yours? Pravda is not a a fair source😉😉 I won't talk about USA government: it shows by itself its temper.

Trump doesn't want him to stop in first place.

•
u/jg3hot 48m ago
Yes. Trump's peace plan has always been to pressure Ukraine to give up territory. He thought he could threaten Zelenski with pulling US support and Zelenski would fold on day 1. Because Trump's a coward and is incapable of bravery. He can't fathom that Ukraine could win against Putin.
17
u/InevitableAd8511 6h ago
Trump isn’t interested in stopping Putin. He’s interested in winning midterm election with Putin’s help. Considering how much money Musk has personally sunk into GOP candidates, it’s insulting they want us to believe he had nothing to do with cutting off Ukraine’s access to Starlink for the exact same reason.

u/OneNormalBloke 10h ago
What makes Italy think that the orange megalomaniac wants to stop pootin? He's already sold his soul, that's if he had one in the first place.

u/hakenwithbacon 7h ago
Italy under Meloni has been pretty anti-Russia
18
u/Pervius94 6h ago
Yeah, Meloni despite being a conservative right winger whatever, she weirldy isn't obsessed with Russia unlike nearly all the alt right fascos nowadays. Apparently one right winger who isn't being bankrolled by Putler.
4

Because she knows Russia wants to control Europe, but she also wants to control Europe. At least her part of it, that is

DJT and the MAGA diehards are responsible for handing over the control of the world to Russia and China. USA is losing footing every day. It’s obvious to all of the USAs former allies. It’s embarrassing and pathetic.
Where I come from, voting is not optional. It’s not perfect, but it’s better than this shit. You think Elon is going to hang around and pay taxes when he’s extracted his trillions and the US is on its knees?
6
u/jalwa_hai_hamara_ 10h ago
"Peace through showing extreme weakness" is certainly a bold new geopolitical strategy

America isn't interested in stopping Putin. Trump loves a strong man and gonna do what a strong man tells him to. Unfortunately he has a flawed way of understanding what makes a strong man strong.
3
u/TimmyB52 5h ago
He loves immense wealth. That's something Putin has accumulated while being a dictator. Trump has been envious of and looked up to Putin.

u/whalemango 3h ago
Trump: I dunno. Have we ever thought of stopping Russia by just giving them a ton of money?
MAGA: you crazy bastard! That just might work! 3d chess!!!

What makes them think it was a ‘mistake’?
13
u/Vimmelklantig 9h ago
This is diplomatic language, but even something that's intentional and not done by mistake can be a mistake.
•
u/Katzelle3 58m ago
Politics. Italy still has a conservative government and they're trying to meet Trump halfway by providing an opportunity to backtrack on decisions that are obviously short-sighted, which is hilariously futile.

So would this mean Italians are actually ready to take action, end Russian visas, and step up their support? I mean hopefully it does but the southern Europeans are overall pretty feckless.

This reminds me of a scene in one of 'Pink Panther' movies, where Dreyfus is chasing Clouseau, who is wearing a fake beard, shooting at him. And Clouseau pulls off his beard and yells over his shoulder "It's me!" and Dreyfus yells back "I know!" and keeps shooting.
Trump knows perfectly well that this isn't how you stop Putin. He's not trying to stop Putin.

Europe is still importing massive amounts of Russian oil and gas. Is that the way to beat Putin?
Nobody but Ukraine is trying to beat Putin, and they can't. Everyone else is just trying to bleed Putin. If Europe really cared about beating Putin they would put troops on the ground, but they won't.
•
•
u/Skynuts 22m ago
This was planned all along. Whenever Trump wants a bill to pass, he will make sure everyone knows where he stands. He was surprisingly quiet when it came to the Graham Act. He never cared about the voting or the outcome, because there was a section in it giving him the right to waiver the sanctions at any time. 2 days before the sanctions were scheduled to take effect, he used Ukraine as an excuse to stop it.
He is working for the Russians, there's no question about it, and unless the Americans wake up and do something about it, he will flush over 250 years of work down the drain.
•
u/narayan77 2m ago
Wake up he's doesn't want to stop Putin. Europe can sell American stocks but that's what Trump wants, he wants to destroy NATO and Western democracy. He's a traitor and very dangerous, he's dying and wants to cause destruction.
1
1
u/Longjumping-Boot1886 10h ago
He is not stopping Putin. Trump feels what his political end is near. and he is pushing all buttons.
Orban did the same, if you remember.
Yanukovich did the same (took fake loan from Russia, and took out his own assets).
It's a classic last moves of all Russian spies.

u/Wittywhirlwind 10h ago
That’s the point. Trump wants daddy P to go harder, faster, more more more.

Trump this Trump that, blah fuckin blah.
How about Europe removes their head from their ass and fucking does something since America bad!
How about you use European Tanks, European Airplanes, European Body Armor, European Guns, European Artillery and European Meat Sacks and go throw them up against Russia.
Literally NOTHING is stopping Europe from doing something about it. They make all that military tech over there but can't use it because the US says so? Why cant France deploy the Charles de Gaulle Carrier to the area and send in military forces? Why can't Italy, Germany and France send in their own military with their own equipment to go fight for Ukraine completely and utterly outside of the US' "permission".
0
u/MuTron1 5h ago
Because Russia is still a nuclear power, and entering the war directly risks uncontrollable escalation and the possibility of Russian drones landing in other European capitals.
Most European leaders, unlike US ones, consider the wider implications of openly getting their armed forces involved in conflict and whether they can control the consequences.
2
u/Yazashmadia 3h ago
Ok, then why is all the blame on the US?
If Europe won't get off their ass and fucking do something why is it entirely up to us? It wasn't just the US and evil Musk/Starlink that didn't give them early warning on that most recent missile attack.
Why the fuck didn't Germany do it? France? Poland? UK? Denmark? Italy? Spain? Ireland?
Why does it ALL fall onto the US and no one else to do it? Are they too incompetent to do it?
Or is it that Europe benefits by doing fuck all because idiots like yourself will give every single excuse to Europe for not using their own gear/equipment?
-3
u/bave388 4h ago
It's not our war.
If Europe wants so badly to wage a proxy war then maybe they shouldn't have eviscerated their own defense capability and military industry.
4
3
u/Mediocre-Recover3944 4h ago
Yea we should have said that when you guys asked for help in Iraq and Afghanistan.
2
u/MattyGWS 3h ago
It is, in fact, the US’s war because they agreed to defend Ukraine if Ukraine gave up their military defence.
You know why it’s also the US’s problem? Because the US is part of NATO and was (not really any more apparently) an ally to most European nations.
But more importantly, if you don’t want your government getting involved in wars outside of the US then maybe vote for a president that doesn’t antagonise all of its allies or start pointless wars.

I’m pretty convinced now that Trump wants the world divided into 3 zones of influence
