i'm starting to think that maybe these settlers are bad people

Can we stop calling them “settlers” yet if they’re just taking shit that doesn’t belong to them?
We don’t call thieves “enthusiastic borrowers”

u/daenaethra 1h ago
the news is quite curated on the topic. even in your example calling them thieves when the local population is being ethnically cleansed. it gleans over the reality of what's happening in the country

Flying carpet baggers? I know that doesnt make sense but something like that.

They are backed by the full strength and confidence of the IDF

u/MetalBawx 1h ago
Even if they do get arrested it's generally off to a civilian court while if the Palestinians fight back they get dragged into a military court.

Nearly every video I've seen of them had the pillagers doing some comically evil shit (often while heavily armed) with the IDF close by making sure the palestinians can't do anything about it.

While Netanyahu gaslights and continues to call the attacks “alleged”
78
u/Drach88 2h ago
He writes it off as "hilltop youth" and then does nothing about them.
This has been going on since Sharon called for Israelis to "grab the hilltops", and although most Israelis think these guys are nutjobs, there's simply zero political capital to actually address the problem.
Fingers crossed Likud can't form a coalition in the next election.

Your comment is fair. I question what Israel expects of its global image when madness like this prevails.

u/bakochba 1h ago
The opposition is literally running on rule of laws against these people. It's the way Trump is not prosecuting his supporters or ICE

The amount of plausible deniability that Israel has created simply by calling groups this or that and dead ending what they call "investigations" is utterly amazing. The fact they're getting away with it is another ballgame of international incompetence and cowardice. Hell, they even attacked US government reps, with media filming it, and faced zero consequences for it. This will surely get even less attention.

But the office of the Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu cast doubt on what happened and suggested it was part of a "coordinated campaign to smear Israel".
I mean, in a way he's right. The settlers are clearly coordinated to be doing this every day, and their actions are smearing themselves and their country. The real question is what Netanyahu is going to do about it, and the answer is nothing, because it's election season.
•
u/bakochba 1h ago
Yeah the clear answer is for his government to start doing its job instead of coddling Ben Gvir
•
u/Blupoisen 52m ago
Yup, no way he will condemn settler violence less than 2 weeks before elections
More reason why he and that fat fuck Ben Gvir should be gone
•
u/isaacfisher 1h ago
That’s 100% true and it’s his own doing, because he is the one that helped Ben Gvir (their representative which he is afraid from) get into the Knesset, even though he said originally that this man does not deserve to be part of the coalition (2021)

This keeps happening because the Israeli government doesn’t arrest these terrorists
•
•
u/Longjumping_Box_5660 1h ago
The right wing government would never. Even if they know it’s bad and don’t like it they would never risk alienating a part of their base as elections draw near
•
u/Blupoisen 53m ago
They have several supporters in the government Ben Gvir is literally one of them
•

u/sirgaybrin 2h ago
They cannot treat Europeans like they do with Palestinians and get away with it!

And yet.....
I still don't understand how such a small nation has so much control over the rest of the world.

Two answers: lobbies and intelligence.

And funneling money to the right pockets
•
u/Deadlynk6489 1h ago
And a psychotic nuclear deterrence strategy that basically comes down to nuking all "enemies" if Israel were to fall.
•
u/Torsta 1h ago
Isn't that basically the identical policy of every nuclear armed nation? MAD had USSR and USA with thousands of missiles pointed at each other.
•
u/Deadlynk6489 8m ago
It includes "enemies" who haven't attacked them at all. The Salomon option is way way worse than the MAD of the US and USSR

What will it take for the West to stop funding these psychotic imperialists????
•
u/InevitableAd8511 27m ago
It’s insulting that they keep calling them “settlers”. You can’t “settle” land that is already occupied. They’re terrorists. They’re pillagers. They’re thieves. They’re murderers. They’re criminals.

These are pogroms. No different to the pogroms Jewish people suffered in Europe.

Israeli occupation of the west bank and settler violence has been condemned by everyone except the most right wing Israelis for decades. Their government needs to change.
Edit: October 27th

As an Indian, I would say not "everyone". The kind of admiration and reverence people here have for Netanyahu would put even his Israeli voters to shame.
3
u/nefh 1h ago
I should have qualified that a bit more. Is there a left v. right in India or is it along religious grounds? Hindu v. Muslim?
•
u/langdreamerjr 1h ago
Left vs. Right in India is mostly on religious grounds, where the Right wing is mostly Hindu and the Left Wing is mostly Muslim. The history of tensions with Pakistan and the history of terrorism have made most of the people here completely forget about colonialism, and they blindly support Israel's actions in Palestine, without actually realizing what they support.
Even news channels here, most of which are in the pocket of the current regime, support Netanyahu and Israel.

So many terrorists in Israel. Why is it that the most devout to their god figure are the most violent and hateful? What happens when there is no separation of church and state - war over whose imaginary friend gets to be the real one?

Let’s start calling the “Israeli settlers in the West Bank” the “West Bank Bandits”
•
u/Udderlybutterly 30m ago
Condemning and effectively policing these 'settlers' would help Israel's current reputation.
