Discussion As a cat owner I find it weird that rogue's stealth has a 2 second cooldown but feral druid's have a 6 second cooldown.
I would like to see a person hide under my dinner table as well as my black cat can. Feral devs must have never owned a cat.

Subtlety rogues have been heavily implied to wrap themselves in a shadow magic to become stealth so I like to think about it as a human using a cloak of invisibility to a cat prowling in the bushes.

Magical/high fantasy level stealth vs. "real world" camouflage/stealth

u/SkittleDoes 10h ago
Well how else is a rogue going to stealth in a big open field or desert etc

A ghillie suit for each environment.

u/SkittleDoes 9h ago
Ok now jump around and stab shit with a full complement of adventuring gear, backpack etc, while wearing a ghillie suit

Except that “vanish” used powder like a magician originally. The shadow magic is a retcon.

Not sure why you were downvoted but it could be something along the lines of rogues learning to disappear without needing the flash powder because they can now wrap themselves in shadows. A lots happened since vanishing powder was removed, it makes sense that the rogue stepped up from street magic to actual magic at some point.

True, they also had cloak of shadows the same time they needed flash powder though!

Cats' stealth takes longer because Rogues doesn't have to knock things off the table first.

u/DarenPeterOswald 7h ago
Even though none of my cats have ever done this I still think this is the best reason so far. I've seen all the videos, I think I just got really lucky with mine haha.

I think the actual answer to this question is that it's a relic from original feral design (before the split) where bears were supposed to feel like an almost warrior and cats like an almost rogue, just not able to have the full toolkit of either.

Yeah I mean, you could give druids 2 second stealth and vanish, and let them sap, etc why would anyone play a rogue

I’ve also always wondered why ferals don’t have some kind of a cheat death - ‘Nine Lives’ is right there haha

I swear it's a vendetta against druids our flight form also takes forever to become available after leaving anywhere considered inside.

u/bzmotoninja83 16h ago
Thats when you stop and start running again, instantly available

u/ShardingIsBroken 16h ago
No no, there's better tech. Right as you exit press jump and you can flight form instantly while maintaining the free charge for lift up!

That’s been a thing since vanilla, you need to let go of movement. Say you’re pressing W when leaving an inn, if you stop pressing W and immediately press W again, you can travel form.
My educated guess is that the inside/outside check is done every few frames, but ignored while continuously pressing a movement key.

u/MrNoobyy 16h ago
Yep, this is also why you can fly through buildings for a bit if you just use mouse and hold W. As soon as you hit try to turn with a movement key you instantly dismount.

u/LincolnL0g 13h ago
famously for me my first thought is classic wow, stormwind flight master, reaching the flight master on my mount using that tech haha

u/Frog-Eater 10h ago
Movement is client side, you need to tell the server you've stopped so flight is available. Just stop moving when the minimap switches to outside and you can fly instantly.

Weirdly enough if you just strafe straight left or right as soon as you exit a building it will immidately update. I've developed the habit of just tapping left strafe every time I walk outside

It's cause feral devs hate the spec, the game, the world, and themselves
30
u/San4311 15h ago
You imply there is such a thing as a Feral dev. There is not. (They explicitly stated as much a few expansions ago, maybe somethings changed but I doubt that.

u/TheFoxInSocks 15h ago
I feel like you’re implying that there’s a rogue dev to compare this to. I’m pretty sure the devs can’t work out where either spec is.
7
u/Ixiraar 13h ago
The funny thing is there was a dedicated guy working on both those specs up until around Shadowlands at least and it was the same guy doing both rogue and feral.
8
u/TheFoxInSocks 12h ago
So if nobody can find him, does that make him really bad or really good at his job?

u/Remote_Cantaloupe 17m ago
I don't think dedicated devs have existed like that since Vanilla, at least from my memory.

Feel like it's more like a guy trying to hide under your table and a panther.
However now I imagine gnome druids being housecats

Druids were always "kind of" another class but worse. However, because they're kind of 5 different classes they're supposed to combine to be more than the sum of the parts. Bear was kinda warrior but it had self heals. Real druids didn't stick to one form to maximize the usefulness of the class. Druids are a little but of everything but not wholly one thing.
4
u/Drendari 13h ago
You druids want it all.
2
u/DarenPeterOswald 7h ago
I actually wanted to make a joke about cats but a surprising amount of people see this as some sort of legitimate class commentary lol.
2
u/Drendari 6h ago
Druids and other healers are natural enemies. Like tanks and druids. Or ranged dps and druids. Or rogues and druids. And druids and other druids.
Damn druids they ruined WoW.

u/Nefras 12h ago
Yeah lets go make druid better at rogue than rogue great idea
1
u/FeralPsychopath 10h ago
That kinda false equivalence is like saying a shadow priest and affliction should have different percentages for pandemic windows.

Wouldn’t it make more sense that a humanoid could hide better from another humanoid?

So you've found your cat hiding under your dinner table but you haven't found any of the people hiding under your dinner table and somehow your conclusion is that the cat is stealthier??
