Movie/TV Discussion What was Cyclops waiting here for? Expecting a kiss or something?

Well I would be stunned if Kelly Hu jumped at me like this.

She blocks him from touching his visor

This, he has to open the aperture on his visor for the punch dimension to leak out.

In the comics he had a means of opening his visor from his glove, though I suppose that may not have been a thing in the movie. I would have to rewatch and verify if there's any time where you can see him using his blast without touching his visor.

I know in the OG X-Men animated series Professor X is able to summon his hoverchair via telepathy. Is that the same in the comics? If so would it not be possible to create a visor that has a mental link with Scott?

There was an extended scene. But even in this she had cyclops pinned. She weighs a lot due to the adimantium . And in the Fox films cyclops cannot activate his visor unless touching the controls on the side. Unlike in the comics where he has a trigger in his gloves that opens the visor all the way incase of moments like this.

Where can I see the extended scene?

The Cut Content
According to the X-Men Movies Wiki, there was an extended version of the scene that never made it into the final theatrical cut or the official DVD/Blu-ray deleted scenes: [1]
Plastic Nightstick Fight: In the unreleased, extended footage, Cyclops does more than just fire his optic blasts at Stryker's men. After swiftly neutralizing the initial two security guards, he actually picks up their plastic nightsticks/batons to engage in hand-to-hand combat against Lady Deathstrike. [1, 2]Why Was It Cut?
While 20th Century Fox never released a formal explanation for leaving this specific footage out, the sequence serves a narrative purpose in the final film: it emphasizes how easily and ruthlessly Stryker's brainwashed forces ambush the X-Men. [1, 2]
Trimming the scene down to a quick surprise attack by Deathstrike—who sneaks up behind Cyclops after he is distracted—minimized the runtime and quickly transitioned the plot to Cyclops and Professor X being taken captive. However, it remains a point of contention among X-Men fans, many of whom felt the final cut made Cyclops look far too easily defeated. [1, 2]1

To be fair that makes sense being cut because why would he even think to fight her up close and not just shoot her with his eyes?

When she showed up she shot him with the tranquilizer gun so maybe it was supposed to throw his aim off with the beam in a small room. Plus I think they wanted to show cyclops could do more than eye pew-pews.
It sorta makes sense cause if she could knock him out that easily why tranq him. But I could see the fight break out after she shoota him and he basically can’t keep up as he starts to pass out and why he couldn’t shoot her if his eye sight was fading. So she just knocked him out.

I believe there was an extended fight scene that was cut, which is why it looks so awkward.
I don't even know why Cyclops was in this movie when he was utterly wasted.

Honestly, Xmen team stories are better suited for TV than movies. Too many characters to get the team dynamic in without watering them down

He was there to give the emotional weight of jean’s death without giving it to Wolverine. This way Wolverine looks cool and stoic while cyclops weeps.

He’s waiting to be removed from 90% of the movie. He’s supposed to be able to fight hand to hand but he’s useless in the Singer movies.

Bluntly?
These were Wolverine movies. Scott was an extra in that context.

Isn't this from X2? That's like a top 3 X-Men movie he's gonna be waiting for a long time

Just because something is the best of its kind doesn't mean it is actually good.

It's Scott Summers, so yes. When it comes to smootches, 60% of the time it works every time.

When Scott's reluctance to blast people works against him...

u/Disastrous_Head5703 3h ago
If I had to give this movie the benefit of the doubt, Scott won't use his powers against ordinary humans unless he has absolutely no choice. Or against fellow mutants who are being used against their will to attack him. And he seemed to belated realize that a "passive" approach was a mistake.
The issue with an opponent like Lady Deathstrike: once she closes the distance, you are already dead. And Scott's melee abilities don't match an professionally-lethal superhuman with a reinforced adamantium skeleton.

It’s like when you’re walking and someone sucker punches you. Literally a split second.

It does get a little bit lost in the edit, but as she jumps he immediately reaches for the visor but she pins his arms.

Fox X-men, especially not Wolverine, is bad and a mistake. Nightcrawler gets a pass. Wolverine gets a fail in x-3, healing factor is never that fast.

u/KrakenKrusdr84 9h ago
Everything happened in split second timing. I hate to admit it but Scott was just too slow. Deathstrike saw an opening to attack and took it.

Bro had his hand to his visor and dropped it AFTER he recognized a threat.
The laziest of lazy writing. Nerf Cyclops to hell while doing tricks on Logan's shmeat🤦♂️

He wasn’t sure what to expect bc he wasn’t allowed to read the comics on set.

u/ObviousThrowawayGG 4h ago
The writers of this movie didnt read the comics. They knew wolverine was cool which is why he was the focus. No one else is comic accurate.
