Question I had a thought regarding Reckless Ben...

• Upvotes

So regarding Reckless Ben, a thought crossed my mind about his kind of content. He's a Youtuber who has done things from sneaking into the McKamey Manor, to following a cult, to turning himself into a trouble teen facility. All that on his videos, I feel are gonna backfire on him in the sense that with his growing popularity, it'll be an instant red flag to any of his future investigations.

Like similar to other investigators like Coffeezilla or Nick Shirley, what he's doing with his videos about spreading awareness and trying to stop the evils of our society, it's a double-edged sword because by making his findings public, it's gonna instantly tip to future perpetrators that if he shows up, destroy all of the evidence.

Meaning he wouldn't be able to sneak into another cult or organization, because it'll instantly tip off to the perpetrators that if he's coming here, destroy the evidence so he doesn't expose anything

Question Which of these 3 characters suffered the most as a "Buried Casualty" (for a video essay)?

• Upvotes

Hey guys! I'm currently scripting a YouTube video essay analyzing underrated female video game characters.
For The Buried Casualty, I am looking for the character who suffered the most because they starred in a video game that was either widely disliked by the community OR skipped entirely by casual players.
Which of these three do you think fits the "Buried Casualty" archetype best?

  • Serah Farron (FF13-2): An incredibly mature, well-written lead who had to carry a complex time-travel plot, but was completely skipped by millions of players who refused to buy the sequel after the backlash of the first FF13.
  • Chloe Frazer (The Lost Legacy): Had an incredible character arc and stepped beautifully into the protagonist role, but was arguably skipped or missed by casual fans who treated the title as "just a DLC expansion" right after Uncharted 4.
  • Nilin (Remember Me): Boasted an incredible character design and a groundbreaking memory-remixing mechanic, but was entirely buried when the game underperformed and the franchise was instantly abandoned.

Feel free to vote and drop your arguments in the comments below...

Question How do you handle shipping addresses for review units while keeping your home address private?

Hey everyone!

I'm starting to receive opportunities from brands to review products for my YouTube channel, and I'm wondering how you handle shipping when a company offers to send you a product.

I'm not comfortable giving brands my personal home address, especially when working with companies I haven't partnered with before.

For those of you who receive review units, what do you use for shipping? Do you rent a PO Box, use a private mailbox like a UPS Store, use a virtual mailbox, or have another solution?

I'm particularly interested in options that can accept packages from international brands and carriers like DHL, FedEx, and UPS, since some of these products ship from China.

I'd also appreciate any recommendations for affordable services and things to watch out for.

Thanks!

Question Sharable links are not displaying meta + Video's require to be signed in

hey hey!

My son started a Youtube gaming channel and I am managing it (+ editing the video's).

We take it seriously and have run into the following 2 issues:

  1. When sharing the video's (for example whatsapp) it doesn't display the video image + meta. It just shows the standard youtube description of "Enjoy videos and music...."
  2. The video's require users to be signed in to watch it.

For all video's the settings are:
- No, video is not made for children
- Don't limit my videos to just 18 years and above

Not sure if relevant but we are in the Netherlands.

Also (again, not sure if relevant), on our first video we did upload with a song that was licensed and then removed the song and replaced it.

How can I fix this as we are trying to grow the channel? LMK if I need to share a link (not sure if allowed).

Question Video Length Advice for a Gaming Channel

Recently I uploaded my first episode in a Gears Of War: E-Day playthrough. I have been doing YouTube videos of playthroughs of games for about two years and have gotten not that many views or new subs in all that time, and I keep my videos to about right under an hour each. I had heard through advice given to me here to make them longer episodes, which I tried recently with this episode at almost 2 hours and minimal editing but commentary and gameplay and a thumbnail I was proud of since I’ve only recently been making custom thumbnails, and after 8 days up, (granted I know I need to aim for daily or bi-daily uploads but I’ve been very busy this last week,) it has 0 views when I usually could at least count on 1-2 at minimum. I’d really like to turn my channel into something where I consistently improve my quality, content, and where I can do it as either one of my careers or at least have decent engagement on the side. Should I stick to this type of length playthroughs and just keep working away, or turn them into shorter episodes? I plan on starting my video essays soon on games, films, novels, and other topics I’m interested in but I am wondering what advice you may have for this? If it should be shorter should I delete and restart this play through from the beginning? Also I personally want to stick to a lot of new releases yes, but also older games from a few years ago to all the way back to when gaming was starting out that I would like to make, so is there different advice for older entries versus new games I want to put on the channel such as E-Day, Silver Pines, GTA VI, etc? I have a bonus question also about games like OW, MW4 MP and DMZ, should I make those highlights videos and shorts, stream them, just use them for background footage, or make things like tips and tricks videos and journey through ranking up vids and things like that? I am really interested in an open discourse and in depth conversation to learn what mistakes I may be making and what work I need to do to improve, so thank you all for any creative input!

Question Hey YouTube people! I'm an indie game developer and i wanna ask something

Hey YouTubers! I'm an indie game developer currently trying to market my game, and I got curious about something.

How many subscribers do you have, and roughly how many emails offering free Steam keys do you receive from indie developers or publishers per day or week?

I'm trying to get a better idea of how crowded your inboxes are and whether these emails actually get noticed or just end up being ignored.

Question Possible to upload but out of my channel

I know I can upload unlisted, but does an unlisted video still let people find out who I am. I want to share a clip of something but don't want it traced to me, Will YT let me do that. It's not illegal, it's just controversial and I'm not wanting the attention for bleeding obvious reasons, it's 2026 you know. Is an unlisted video anonymous?

Question Offering free editing to improve. Anyone need it?

Hey everyone!

I’m in the middle of learning Adobe Premiere for my University project, and to better familiarise myself with the software I figured the best way might be to work for free on some videos for YouTubers.

A few disclaimers:
• I’m not working for anyone long-term, I’ll do as many videos as it takes until I feel I understand the software.
• I’m happy to offer revisions for whatever you may need, but I do have other projects so please don’t expect to be priority number one.
• Thumbnails aren’t included, since I’m not trying to get better at photo editing.

Preferred: IRL videos, or gaming videos that include face-cam. Not required, but will take priority.

Leave a comment, and I’ll send you over my contact details

Tips & Tricks I used to work as an IT engineer, and now I'm getting into YouTube — how do you find video and channel tags?

Post image
2 Upvotes

Hey everyone!

I used to work as an IT engineer and programmer, but I've recently switched gears and started exploring YouTube as a new career path. I'm still learning the ropes, especially when it comes to researching video topics, understanding other creators in my niche, and figuring out YouTube tags.

Since I have a programming background, I decided to build a little tool of my own to make this process easier. It's called YouTube Video & Channel Tag Explorer, and it's a free Chrome extension that helps you check available tags on YouTube videos and channels.

You can install it directly from the Chrome Web Store and use it while browsing YouTube.

Chrome Web Store:
https://chromewebstore.google.com/detail/youtube-video-channel-tag/fmdocmjcfbekfkeicigfmhmnoadhejkf

Official website:
https://igbd.cn/youtube-tag-explorer

I'm still learning and figuring things out, so I'd love to hear from other creators here.

How do you research video and channel tags for free? Are there any tools or techniques you'd recommend to someone who's just getting started?

Thanks! Looking forward to learning from you all.

Question What type of camera/setup do you use to get POV shots?

I'm curious what most people do to get point-of-view shots. Are people using head-mounted cameras, smart glasses, or something else? I tried a camera on a head mount but the results weren't great--I found it hard to get the right framing.

If you have a good setup for POV or can give tips, dos and don'ts, etc., it would be much appreciated!

EDIT: To clarify, I would be using the setup for indoor shots, to take hands-free video of miscellaneous stuff. And I don't want to spend a lot of money, so nothing too elaborate.

Question Video got taken down for including a link required by YouTube

Appealed of course, but how does this happen? It was a link required because I used YouTube music where attribution was required.

Here it is:

"We wanted to let you know our team reviewed your content, and we think it violates our spam, deceptive practices and scams policy. We know you may not have realized this was a violation of our policies, so we're not applying a strike to your channel. However, we have removed the following content from YouTube:

[forbidden link and video the music was used on]

We realize this may be disappointing news, but it's our job to make sure that YouTube is a safe place for all. If you think we've made a mistake, you can appeal this decision - you'll find more details below.

What our policy says

Content that links to sites that contain spam, scams, or other deceptive practices isn’t allowed on YouTube."

Question Has anyone recovered their account from @TeamYouTube

This morning I was going through some sponsorship requests and it looked like the typical “sign in with Google” thing so I did. Confirmed the two-step and boom, password changed, recovery email changed. Account gone. My youtube account started live-streaming and got banned.

Google’s account recovery doesn’t help at all and there’s no live agents to help. The only thing that was suggested online was to go on X and message TeamYouTube. It’s been 7 hours since I messaged them and no reply. Anyone had this happen? How long did it take to recover your account?

Question Youtube broke mobile square uploads?

Youtube updated on my Android overnight and a process I was doing all last week now seems to be completely replaced. Square 1:1 clips are getting autocropped to 9:16.

Has anyone else also noticed it?

I was making pixel art timelapses / recordings and they're all square formats, the process was working pretty great. I Even tested trying to upload the exact clips I used last week and they all Autocrop now.

Spent 3 or 4 hours today trying to work around the problem. Youtube studio will let me upload a clip as square but you're locked out from being able to edit it, add the sound and text etc that you can conveniently do from the Youtube app.

Question What do you do?! Begging for help with a YouTube AI error! Account wrongly disabled.

I run a peaceful aquatic YouTube channel that is just getting started after a year. I went active on it after my best friend died of the most cruel case of cancer (throat) I’ve ever witnessed THIS WEEK of last year. It was the only thing that kept me going (alive). (So this is very triggering rn) Now, YouTube’s AI has suddenly triggered a false positive on my account and is saying that it was created by a computer program. NOTHING on my channel is AI. I don’t even use a music platform that allows AI. It’s all a year’s worth of hard, HUMAN work. I have appealed it FOUR TIMES, sent feedback, written to their legal team, called YouTube TV support (who hung up on me), posted on X, Facebook, and YT, and even hired TWO, separate, experienced professionals to help who were at a total loss. Nothing is working. It’s all run by AI! So, just to be clear, THEIR ROBOTS are calling ME a ROBOT and saying robots aren’t allowed. The hypocrisy is ASTOUNDING. The only thing I can possibly think of is that I created two accounts at the same time. At the advice of many, I made a my channel email a private, ambiguous name, and then made a separate, public facing email account for contact. This was for security reasons, so that I would avoid hackers. I did EVERYTHING to make sure I was doing it right and safely, from the beginning. I wish I had known that I should be far more scared of YouTube’s poorly designed AI for possibly disabling my account and destroying my life. No human is monitoring any of it! It is maddening. I am absolutely desperate for any help, whatsoever. I don’t know what to do. What does anyone do when this happens? How do you start over if YouTube won’t allow more accounts from the same number and if it would probably trigger another false positive for stealing someone’s content if I posted my own on another account? Please, please help me.

Question Color filters on light source when shooting?

I would like to achieve a warmth in my videos but I don't want to spend time with complex color grading for every video in editing. Anyone know what type of color filters to add so that I can use them with my Godox SL60W and P60 softbox? Ideally something as budget-friendly as possible

Question How do you stay organized with filming, organizing, and editing content?

How do you stay organized? I will come up with 10s-100s of video ideas and idek if they are good or not so they just rot in my notes app. Then I record when I am in the mood for it and I am a very moody person but I looove filming and talking to a camera, so this happens 1-3x a week. Then I have upwards of 10 videos recorded over 1-2 months and I forget what they are about, if they are good, which videos go together, etc. and I LOATHE editing, I have been doing YouTube for over 5 years and I have yet to be able to tolerate editing it takes FOREVER and is so boring. Anyways, so I avoid editing adn just accumulate a ton of videos. Also, if I stream and edit the footage into short form (a big feat for me lol) I save them to my phone and then forget which ones I posted and forget about them because they get pushed so far back in my gallery. Maybe I just need to lock in more, but the whole concept of getting good lighting, having a good video idea, taking the time to prep and record it, hope i'm in a good/funny mood, and then proceed to make sure all the clips are there and edit it all? I just can't help thinking there's an easier way to go about this. I also work full time and my job absolutely kills me emotionally and mentally. I have nothing left from this job, so I've wondered if that has something to do with it, but I need money and I've been applying to other jobs for months. Any advice is appreciated! :) Oh I also post on tiktok, ig, and YouTube which is very overwhelming for me too for some reason.

Question When Growth Conflicts With Personal Values and Intended Channel Direction

Question: When subscribers / followers / etc begin creating drama and conflict on your content, do you let them run amok, or do you cut them off? Is there a middle-ground where you accept some amount of "rudeness", understanding that humanity is simply going to do what it does, only cutting off the most hateful, egregious, unreasonable commenters?

Context: I run a YouTube channel where I showcase pocketknives. In the world of pocketknives, there are a great deal of manufacturers in China. The purpose of my channel is to showcase knives in a restrained luxury fashion, highlighting their qualities regardless of price, country of origin, etc... The goal has always been to never "sell out", to maintain the aesthetic I created initially, and to keep the environment a pleasant one for any and all pocketknife enthusiasts.

Situation: This morning I chose to block a subscriber. I posted a short of a Chinese-made knife and he just started going on rants about "Chinese junk" (even though these are objectively well-made) and "the communist party". Ironically, he was saying my channel was "too well produced" for "Chinese junk", so it was this interesting compliment/insult combination. Anyhow, the comment was entirely disrespectful in tone, did not align with the types of conversations and content I intend to have on my channel, and I could tell I was going to have to deal with him every single time I posted a Chinese-made knife. So, I made the decision to block him from the channel.

Thoughts: This isn't about free speech. This is about creating an intentional environment for hobbyists to enjoy themselves free of drama, where I can control it. Here, I could control it, so I did.

Current & Future Concerns: I know how "the algorithm" works - all engagement is "Good" engagement, as far as social media is concerned. I am wondering if I drew the line too early for blocking someone, as this is exactly the kind of topic that sparks passionate back-and-forth debates in comment sections and generates "engagement". As far as the future is concerned - I struggle with the idea of blocking a few now, when, if the channel was to grow, I'd potentially be unable to possibly block all of the commenters like this in the future. At some point, the channel theoretically becomes too large to be able to moderate every single comment, and so I'm stuck with this back-and-forth in my head of "block individuals to cultivate the environment I want" vs "you're gonna drown in these people eventually anyhow, let them do their thing".

I'm really curious as to the community's thoughts on this topic, and I apologize if something similar has been discussed before. As a small channel, it really sucks to block a subscriber, but I'm also not trying to make a career out of this and see no need to sacrifice the channel's "environment" letting people go on aggressive rants, slinging hateful words all the time, etc...

Question I have this VERY concerning icon above what should be a green light to upload?

Basically a big red exclamation mark in the ''Initial check'' tab of the upload. When i click into that to check what that's all about, i'm told everything is A-OK for copyright and community guidelines. Maybe it's telling me a different issue is afoot, like a processing problem? Help is much appreciated.

Question YouTube Muting My Video Colors

Hey all! I’m dealing with a color problem, potentially caused by how I’m exporting/rendering my content to YouTube.

Whenever I play my content within my editing software or windows media player, the colors look awesome. Super vivid RGBs, big fan. However, the moment I upload it to YouTube, it doesn’t matter if I watch on laptop, phone, TV, my colors are SUPER muted. Almost like I intentionally edited it for the video to look as bleak as possible.

I’m sure it’s an encoding/rendering thing in davinci resolve, but I’m nowhere near knowledgeable enough to know where to begin. Some things I can share at least

File Type: MP4
Codec: H.264
Encoder: Native
Resolution 4K
Frame Rate: 60
Encoding Profile: Auto
VBR: 80000 Kb/s
Color Space Tag: Rec.709
Gamma Tag: Gamma 2.4

Again, it looks fantastic post render on windows media player but the second I upload it to YouTube, all of my colors look much less vibrant and enjoyable to look at.
