New Foundland accent
Hi
Just watched below. Sorry to be a bother but the accent sounds very familiar to some of the accents we have here in Britain! It's so different to anything I've heard of accents in the Americas before. Felt like a home away from home! It has an Irish tinge too!

Warning from UPS:
I was supposed to receive my package yesterday but the amazing people at UPS has alerted me to an alarming situation.
After arriving at the sort facility in St. John's, then a "Out for delivery" message when they were in Mount Pearl. But then out of nowhere and somehow they were able to alert me of the following
Delay: Emergency Situation or Severe Weather
An emergency situation or severe weather condition has delayed delivery
God bless UPS for alerting me to an emergency situation and or severe weather yesterday afternoon.
Let's keep the people at UPS in our prayers.
Although I see nothing in the news...yet

[Gross Photo Warning] Is it normal to have this many woodlice (pill bugs) in homes in Newfoundland?
Hi everyone,
I live in Conception Bay South, Newfoundland, and I’ve been dealing with a huge number of woodlice (pill bugs) coming into my home.
I’ve found hundreds of them stuck to tape that I used to seal gaps around the entrance over just two weeks. They also appear around the stairs, walls, and floors.
I’ve recently started sealing the gaps with silicone caulk, but there are so many gaps throughout the house.
Is this normal in Newfoundland? Do other people have the same problem, or is there something seriously wrong with my house?
I’d really appreciate hearing about your experiences and how you dealt with this. Thanks!

NLC Private Order
Has anyone here imported alcohol using the NLC's private order service? I know that there's a minimum price requirement but I'm not sure if there's also a minimum number of bottles/cans i need to buy as well. Trying to get my hands on those 3L Jager bottles just for fun.

CNA Engineering Tech
After struggling to find work with software for almost 2 years I have been thinking of going back to school for Architectural or Mechanical Engineering Tech. What have the job opportunities/career outlook for these diplomas been over the last couple of years?

Does anyone know the actual depth of the narrow channel between North and South Okak Island, Labrador?
I’m trying to establish the actual water depth of the very narrow channel separating the northern and southern parts/islands of Okak Island in Okak Bay, Nunatsiavut, Labrador.
I’ve studied the best marine charts and hydrographic information I’ve been able to find, but I can’t find a reliable sounding for the narrowest part of the channel itself.
On satellite imagery the two land masses appear almost joined — essentially a near-isthmus — whereas nautical mapping identifies them separately. This makes me wonder whether the narrow passage is extremely shallow or perhaps partly intertidal.
What I’m specifically trying to establish is:
Is the channel actually navigable by a shallow-draught vessel?
What is its approximate minimum depth at low water/chart datum?
Does any part dry or become almost dry at low tide?
What would the approximate tidal range be there — particularly around spring tides?
Nearby tidal information suggests a range broadly around 1–2 metres, sometimes a little over 2 m, but I would particularly appreciate information specific to Okak.
If anyone has sailed, fished, surveyed or travelled in Okak Bay — or has access to detailed Canadian Hydrographic Service charts/soundings for this particular passage — I’d be very interested to hear what you know.
I’m particularly interested in first-hand/local knowledge, as the published hydrographic information I’ve found doesn’t seem to provide a sounding for the narrowest section.
Many thanks.

Ah yes, right in the best of times…
Something like this is years too late. It’s Newfoundland so it’s probably going to succeed out the gate (assuming it’s one down and up flight a week) but in a time where Canadians are choosing not to travel to the US, it wouldn’t shock me for this to be a one season route. As someone who likes tracking planes, it will be cool to see United Express Embraers, but otherwise I like many are going to continue avoiding any travel to the US.

The music of Below
What a great series. But what a great soundtrack as well! I had Google help compile a list of anyone wants to make a mixtape.
I'm very shocked not to hear Simani or Bud Davidge singing "Outport People", or any Simani music. It would have fit into the storyline perfectly. And they played the original "Our Town" by Iris Dement, not the Shanneygannock rendition, which was odd.
Episode 1: "Come Home Year"
"World A Music" – iNi Kamoze
"Killamonjaro" – KILLY
"Fisherman's Blues" – The Waterboys
"Home For A Rest" – Spirit Of The West
"Roller" – April Wine
"New York Groove" – Ace Frehley
"Mother and Child Reunion" – Paul Simon
"Right Down the Line" – Gerry Rafferty
"Mother" – Danzig
"Our Town" -- Iris Dement
Episode 2: "Crown and Anchor"
"Eye On The Bat" – Palehound
"Fishin' In A Dory" – Ray Johnson And The Sou' Westers
"Morrison's Jig & Drowsey Maggie" – Salt Beef Junkies
"Maid Behind The Bar & Cooley's Reel" – Salt Beef Junkies
"Sundown" – Gordon Lightfoot
Episode 3: "Sir John Franklin"
"I Go Blind" – 54-40
"The Master" – Nico Paulo
"The Veil Between Worlds" – DIE HEXEN
"Now I'm a Fool" – Eagles Of Death Metal
"There's Gonna Be A Time Tonight" – Ray Lake
"Bash Bash Bash" – Ispíní na hÉireann
Episode 4: "The Ocean Will Have Us All"
"Theme (From Coronation Street)" – London Music Works
"A' Soalin'" – The Lyttle Folk
Episode 5: "Little Pot Rock"
"Snowbird" – Anne Murray
"The Ode to Newfoundland" – Cantus Vocum Chamber Choir
"Daydream" – Gunter Kallmann Choir
Episode 6: "The Unfathering Deep"
"The Endless Sea" – Iggy Pop

Please feel free to add any I may have missed!

Siding Company Recommendations (St. John's Area)
Hi all,
I live in the St. John's area and am looking for recommendations for a reputable siding company.
I want someone who can give a quote, be reliable, and show up when they say.
I also wouldn't mind knowing what companies I should stay away from. (Feel free to PM.)
Thank-you so much. 🙂

Netflix's Below: From Psychological Thriller to... Feel-Good Environmental Drama? (SPOILERS) Spoiler
Did anyone else finish Below wondering what the hell they just watched? 🤣
It started with a genuinely creepy mystery and somehow ended with everyone saving a misunderstood mother squid and her babies from greedy rich people.
It's like the writers combined THREE completely different shows.
ACT 1: Psychological Thriller
People are getting sick, experiencing extreme thirst, behaving bizarrely, and walking into the ocean to die. Mysterious creature. Unexplained deaths. I'm HOOKED!
ACT 2: WTF Island Cult?!
Suddenly there's Wade, Maggie, the Sea Hag, creepy islanders worshipping Mudder, drugs labelled "Mother," and mysterious fish offerings.
WHY?! Is Mudder controlling them? Communicating with them? Are the drugs connected to her mucus?
We're clearly building toward some huge revelation, right?
NOPE. Absolutely nothing. 🤦♀️
You could eliminate this ENTIRE subplot and the story would probably make MORE sense.
ACT 3: Free Willy: Arctic Edition
SURPRISE! The murderous sea monster is actually a misunderstood mother protecting her eggs, and the REAL villains are wealthy industrialists!
Wait... WHAT?!
And the plot holes?!
Mudder's mucus apparently contaminated the water, compelling people into the ocean to be eaten. So she was ACTIVELY HUNTING humans, not just protecting her nest?
If she only attacked to defend her eggs, why was she attacking people on shore and nowhere near the iceberg?
WHAT WAS THE POINT OF THE CULT?! The fish, drugs, worshipping, Maggie, Wade, Sea Hag?! An entire storyline that seemingly went NOWHERE.
This creature is supposedly so rare and undocumented that the doctor SHOOTS the Sir Franklin captain to save it. Yet the ending reveals MORE icebergs, presumably containing more nests with THOUSANDS of eggs?! How has nobody discovered these creatures?!
The sudden moral shift. Mudder spends the series killing people, then suddenly we're supposed to cheer for her rescue because she's a mother? Why not explore the genuinely interesting question: Does an endangered species deserve protection even when it's dangerous to humans?
My verdict:
I love a good mystery and don't need everything explained. But there's a difference between intentional ambiguity and abandoning half your plot.
The writers started with a fantastic horror premise, took an unnecessary detour into cult horror, and finished with an environmental rescue movie.
Instead of a compelling, morally complicated thriller, we got Midsommar meets The Thing meets Free Willy. 🤣
PLEASE tell me I'm not the only one with approximately 47 unanswered questions?!

How do I go about, or who do I contact about a land transfer from a family member?
