Confusion

I’ve been in arguments with some people about this because of Zachariah:

They say: A law school graduate is automatically a lawyer and becomes an attorney after passing the bar.

I say WRONG.

I say: Only if someone PASSES THE BAR are they both a lawyer and an attorney.
A law school graduate has zero status and is merely a “law school graduate.”

Caveat: in Wisconsin, if you graduate law school there AND practice there, you are waived the bar exam. This is called “diploma privilege.” All other states and DC require the bar. Full stop.

This is so simple. How can people be wrong about such an easy concept?

Am I right or wrong here?

Having pets in law school

I am a 1L in law school and would really like to adopt a cat. I’m a lifelong animal lover and have lots of experience with pets. However, as I am living alone out of state for the first time and adjusting to the rigorous schedule of law school, I am trying to decide if I should realistically adopt a cat. For context, I do most of my studying at my study carrel at the law school and am at school nearly 10 hours a day. When I get home in the evening, I review and work on my outlines. I don’t know if it would be fair to have a cat if I’m so busy and not home a lot, but everyone around me says that cats don’t need a lot of attention and an automatic feeder etc could work when I stay late at school. Should I wait until 2L or 3L?

so what are we going as for halloween?

light hearted posted, but i'm going to a few events, one of which is law students only, and pondering ideas. i usually go silly, but don't want to lose my dignity. would love to get ideas if anyone else has good ideas for funny (or slutty) costumes that wouldn't destroy my reputation in law school.

and no, absolutely nothing related to the law. law school is scary enough as is.

how is law school like?

• Upvotes

i’m curious on becoming a lawyer and when cruising this subreddit it sounds like the navy seal’s hell week but make it 3 years long but on other media’s people say it’s not that bad. so how is it truly like? i understand it’s a lot of work but do you feel like you have free time or at least you can manage working while in law school and have good grades? how interested are you in the classes?

scanned from my textbook while i'm doing my admin law reading, bc i'm too lazy to open westlaw rn

idk why i never expected to see this sentiment expressed so cleanly in a supreme court opinion. i wish i could hand this to conservatives who hate both welfare and crime. like "bro, they're connected. they've always been connected. welfare prevents crime. if you hate crime so much, you should be a huge fan of welfare."

2L with an exam in two days :)

I have two days to prep! I have two days because my workload squished me (I wasn't the smartest to give myself so much to do this year).

Any procrastinators have tips and tricks for 2-day study success? Or inspiring stories lol.

The exam is mostly contracts. It'll have multiple-choice, then the typical "here's a hypo" and short-answer responses.

Ubalt Law school vs UMD

I'm in my junior year at the University of Baltimore right now and had been planning to apply to the early-entry program at their law school. This would allow me to save a year and also have a lower tuition rate for my first year of law school. I'm wondering whether it's even worth it for me to go here. I've heard mixed opinions from people in the law school. I've heard the curve is abysmal, and you'll basically never get into Big Law if you go there because of that. UMD Carey Law is the better option, but I'm wondering if it's worth it for me to spend the extra year (which would just be me completing my bachelor's degree fully) and then try to apply to UMD.

In my mind, the opportunity to get out of law school earlier seems more worth it, but I'm very curious to know if it actually is. I'm also not sure if this is the right place to ask, but I don't see a specific subreddit for either of those law schools, so here I am.

Law school post nursing career?

I’m trying to jump from the dumpster fire that is healthcare and look into a post-graduate career. I’ve been interested in law since I started college and wondered if there are any healthcare professionals who made the jump and have some insight?

Where can I meet other lawyers?

• Upvotes

Not a lawyer, but in medicine. We had a lot of mixers in med school to meet law students (apparently this combo works well). Where can I meet lawyers romantically? The dynamic worked well for me in the past and I’d like to date similar professionals who understand my professional demands.

Is Bluebook 21 still fine for the vast majority of use cases?

• Upvotes

I have the 21st edition of the BB and am looking to do some legal writing. Is the 21st edition still good or does the 22nd have substantive changes that necessitate me getting it? Thanks for any help.

Vetted whether the Press Sec passed the bar? And or lied about being a lawyer? Feel like this would take 1 hour. My impression was if you get hired to be a high level Fed employee, they will vet you extensively?

Completely bombed 1L midterm, even with the curve

So basically, I only had one midterm which was torts, I didn’t think it was that bad, but I ended up with a 51%, and then my professor wrote down that my grade would have been a 1.5 WITH the curve.

I feel like I’m gonna lose my mind and I’m not sure what to do. My guess is that I’m one of the worst students in the class right now and that if I don’t change like Mr. Scrooge, I’m going to fail out of law school.
