Have an ocarina question? There is no such thing as a stupid question.

Want to talk about what you're learning or excited about a new ocarina, feel free to share!

Is there's something not ocarina related that you're itching to talk about? Have at it!

Ocatober Day 18

Ocarina of Time - Title Theme

This one wasn't too great in terms of playing on my part, but we didn't do more takes after this one because of timerestraints. Thanks to the pianist for indulging me, haha!

Monthy Challenge Second song! Dark World in C Major

I believe this is usually played in C minor, but I find the fingerings a lot easier this way. I still struggle on the last bit of the song, but I’ve only been learning the ocarina for a couple of weeks so far.

…also don’t mind my little doggy barking in the background. 😅

Advice i’m missing a finger — help!

hello!

i, like many others, am interested in getting a 12 hole ocarina to play for the remake of ocarina of time, but i’d also like to play it outside of that game. unfortunately, i have camptodactyly that has left my right pinky completely unusable — it’s permanently bent inwards at a more than 90 degree angle. i believe that this will prevent me from being able to play a low a, b or c note as i can’t cover that hole. from my research, zelda songs don’t seen to need those notes thankfully, but my solutions seem to be either permanently closing that hole, playing a 6 hole instead of a 12 hole, or some kind of prosthetic attachment. i would like some input on which option everyone thinks is best — i would have to make my own prosthetic and i don’t really know how i’d do that since it’s not a nub, my finger is still there, just very very bent. how often do i need to use that hole? can i reasonably go without those notes? how much will it affect my other notes if i permanently close the hole?

Newbie's first contribution to Ocatober

I started learning and practicing on a second hand STL Zelda replica since end of Sep. Just got the Night by Noble a few days ago, and loving it that little bit more because it's easier for me to hit the higher notes on NbN.

I just started learning how to play the ocarina. Still struggling to stay in tune and still struggling keeping up with the fingerings, but I will get there.

Never mind the bed head. 🙃

Ocatober day 14!

Clock Town Theme from Majora's Mask

Songbird OoT replica arrived, and I'm in love! So here's some unedited sound, testing both ocarina and my new Zoom H6E handy recorder!

Again, completely unedited sound! Recording will be a dream! Hope you liked this short test of ocarina and recorder :)

Suffered a bit of a delay, trying to get back on schedule.

New Ocarina Day! I bought a new ocarina!

This one is a wooden ocarina from Kikutani, I went with the bamboo version (The other option is maple). I played with it for a little over an hour today and I really love the tone of this one, and the high notes comes out so much easier/better than on my ceramic ocarina from Ti Amo. Unfortunately the finger placement is quite a bit different from my ceramic one, so it will take some getting used to, but I'm getting a lot of enjoyment out of it so far (When my fingers actually hit the notes properly).

The white thing on the mouthpiece is a silicone cover. I'm not sure if that's necessary or not but I threw it on for good measure since it was included.

I also really like the soft leather bag that it came with.

I might start taking this one out to play in the park. I didn't want to do that with my ceramic one, but this is pretty sturdy so I'm not worried about throwing it in my bag (Should I be worried?)

My partner had this one laying around and I became curious about it. While looking up ocarina online, I only came across ones with more holes.

Thanks in advance!

Tuner app?

What tuner app are y'all using? I'm using the Hal Leonard Ocarina Method book & it recommends using one but it seems like all the app based ones have subscriptions, in-app purchases, or like bad reviews. I'm on android btw.

Day 18 progress since owning night of noble AC
I’m trying to play by ear so there were a few uncertain notes. Are there any suggestions to how to make the tone of my ocarina playing a bit warmer? When I listen to others’ recordings, I hear the mellow and rich sounds of ocarina whereas mine sounds quite sharp.

Looking for a suitable ocarina

I'm an indian looking for ocarinas online but none of the sellers seem trustable on amazon and other sites are too expensive (140 usd just for the shipping costs).

Advice Imperial City Ocarina or Stein

I'm a beginner trying to learn to play the ocarina, I have a soprano C which I have played semi-frequently, but sometimes it gets annoying hearing the same notes repeating at high pitch.
So I was looking to get an Alto C, but I'm not sure which to get, I like the look of the Imperial City and Stein ocarinas and have heard them rated highly, but I'm not sure which to get.
Any ideas would be great.

Note: I'm in Australia, just for shipping and some specific recommendations.

Edit: after looking at some reviews, some replies here, and the prices, I decided to get the Imperial City Alto C.

Someone else might be able to do a better job than me, but some of the pitch changes in this song are more subtle than I can seem to manage.

Bought myself a new ocarina, though I'm not sure which Noble is this one.

Any ideas? This is the cheapest Noble Ocarina I can find, Night by Noble is already more expensive 2x here in the Philippines via Lazada/Shopee.

Does this ocarina seem good?

I'm just looking for a cheap 6 hole pendant ocarina that sounds pretty good. The reviews say and show it sounding pretty decent, but I'm not the most experienced so I don't know for sure if it's good, and I don't know if LMS is a good company do be buying ocarinas from. Focalink and Songbird obviously have good ones, but I don't have $40 to spend on a pendant, sadly.
