Not sure if the wording is right but didn't want to make a walltext title, the point is: making a parabolic mirror is still consumption, but once you have it that's a literal 0 emissions from heat. How long (let's say hours of gently simmering) would it take to balance the emissions for building it, compared to not building but still using a regular induction plate or gas stove?

I googled that, but the difference seems too much to believe. Google says an acre of solar panels will produce 250-500 MWh/year while an acre of corn produces about 12.3 MWh/year.

So an acre of solar panels replaces 20-40 acres of ethanol corn? That seems too good to be true. And TBH, I trust the Google AI about as far as I can throw it.

Hoping you brilliant minds can calculate this out over something like a ~20 year horizon to see what the difference in cumulative net cost is between these two options!

I’ve tried to run it myself and having a hard time accepting how much better Option 1 seems and it’s not something you hear people taking into consideration (factoring potential investment income off the difference/extra you’d be “saving” monthly on the lease option vs the higher payments on the finance option) during debates on lease vs finance…or maybe I’ve just always overlooked this.

I know a big variable is the assumption made in option 2 on only holding the vehicle for 1 year debt free before starting a new loan vs keeping the vehicle “debt free” for longer and investing all the money that would otherwise be going to a car payment, but, this is intentional as it assumed a 5 year warranty and avoids any significant amount of time out of warranty before getting a new vehicle.

Eager to hear your thoughts and if I’m missing anything critical.

Option 1: continuous leases + investing the difference between what financing payments would be vs lease payments

Option 2: recurring financing + 1 year of investing every sixth year
- 5 year term to pay off completely
- keep car for 1 year after 5 year financing term
- every month during the sixth, debt free year, invest equal monthly payments to what the financing payments were
- sell car after 6 years of having it and finance new one

I was playing ark last night and tamed a Maewing, it was the first Maewing I've tamed and it seemed absurdly fast, crossing the ocean of Fjordur in a couple seconds, so I was curious as to how fast a Maewing actually is and how crazy the G-forces would be turning on one, I'm not knowledgeable enough to even estimate the first question. I was in a discussion with a co-worker about the lottery. He plays once a week and has for a number of years. I mentioned that I didn't. He said he always plays the same numbers every week, not because they're lucky, but because he believes that playing the same numbers every week somehow increases his odds of winning. I couldn't get any sort of rational explanation for this and I tried to explain to him that because every lottery drawing is from all the possible numbers available in the drawing, he has the same possibility of winning regardless of the numbers that he plays. Only if he bought more than one ticket with different sets of numbers, in any one drawing, did he actually increase his chance of winning. He refused to believe that I was right and he was wrong. Neither of us really has the math to justify our opinions. Can someone help prove me right?
