The tower is a bit too large, too. What we really need is a nice fenced-off area with some sort of way to get in-minigame potions and a chest or something for rewards.
Unironically yeah. I'd love to see a complete redesign of Nightmare Zone to be more in line with the Dominion Tower. I enjoyed the hell out of the Dominion Tower when it released in RS2, and NMZ is just kinda ass in comparison.
I remember seeing a suggestion to move NMZ to a small island off Lunar Island and place a teleporter where it used to be like how you get to soul wars via portal in Edgeville.

I highly doubt the devs planned the lore first when placing NMZ. They probably chose the location, then wrote a fitting explanation afterward. Getting hung up years later over the idea that the location can’t change because it would ruin some deep canonical character lore is ridiculous
Pures got upset because it meant nmz needed defence. Then a debate happened around pures having lunar diplo and 1 defence having vengance. Reddit was up in arms as it was now a pvp poll. You can guess the rest.
a lot of rsps' have a command like that to access your bank anywhere essentially. when you type in in rs your character says Hey everyone, i just tried do something very silly! its been in the game for like 12 years.
It’s not that private servers have the command, it’s actually a real command in OSRS. Mods have access to it. Just like ::noclip and several others. When someone downloads server files to run a private server, they are already there.
Honestly I want them to come out of left field and give him have his tower and it's like a raid. Where he got all of these bosses in a dream zone and they took over and something happened to where they got giga juiced with new abilities and we have to help him fight them.
Having a raid like that would be suck. Have a ton of older bosses juiced up with mechanics and more hp. Final boss could be KQ that prayer flicks to whatever gear you equip/attack with
Same reason the NMZ cave is a copy of the KBD lair. Also why the Staff of the Dead is the same staff Necrovarus is holding, Armadyl Crossbow is a recolored Hunters' Crossbow, Elite Void equipment used to be regular Void with gold trim, etc.
I suppose a lot of current players don't even know that OSRS was never supposed to receive any updates. Barb Assault and POHs were disabled on release due to being infested with bugs that had been discovered and fixed over the years in RS3, so some (or a lot) of the code was copied from RS3. After it was patched and made available, Barb Assault's tutorial used to mention abilities from EoC in some dialogue.

And twice as old than the snapshot that OSRS uses was when it was archived. (OSRS came out Feb 2013, so it's 13 years and 3 months old, the snapshot is from Aug 2007, so it was roughly 6 years and 7 months old at the time)
NMZ is substantially older now than the OSRS backup was at the time. It should stay as is tbh, as an iconic snapshot of that era of OSRS history, when it was just Mat K, Ash, and Reach working in it.
Probably failed because NMZ is an iconic piece of OSRS history at this point. It's older now than RS was when it was added (not counting the time between the OSRS server backup and OSRS release)
That's because osrs basically was a private server when it launched, in terms of the tools they had available to them. They couldn't make new assets, all they could do was place existing assets and write new scripts for them. I think the best they had available was recolours.

We were all starting over from zero again as well so a 6 hr log out timer AFK guthans method was appreciated. That and the Nieve slayer cave with everything right there for you.

A tribute to how Mat K, Ash, and Reach busted their ass to build OSRS from a 2007 backup without dev tools. Keep it as is. NMZ is more old school now than Lumbridge was when NMZ released.

They said it will move to Lunar Isle many many years ago. They also need an artist to redo the nightmare dream area since it's just a copy pasted dungeon
If they really wanted to they could just use a different copy pasted arena. Instead of the KBD Lair it could just be the arena where you fight 'Me' and Cyrisus' insecurities. It will at least make more thematic sense to fight in there since you are literally dreaming about past fights you had in your adventures.
I still wish this got an entire overhaul into being a proper minigame instead a private server eyesore. Dominion Tower was one of the last things I meaningfully engaged with in RS3 before switching over to OSRS and actually enjoyed it quite a bit. To see that this is the equivalent we have here sucks.
I definitely wish it got the attention of having unique challenges, endurance style gauntlets, and fun ways to fight past bosses. Especially since a lot of newer quest bosses are actually pretty interesting mechanically and to only be able to fight them once ever on your account seems like a waste when there's a piece of content right here that can allow you to re-challenge them.
Give us the fun challenges like having to fight 15 evil chickens at once, let me refight Vanstrom now that I'm significantly stronger now, make a unique gauntlet of fighting bosses in an entire quest chain at once, let me (at least try to...)fight Cuthbert at full power.

When i played 10 years ago nmz was the meta to afk train. I also did 99 magic at nmt with rune duping back then when it was possible. What happened to nmz?
I have long believed this shit should just be deleted as a footnote in an update one day. It removes people from the overworld, is often botted, and aids in resources being dirt cheap.
He should just be floating there with right click options for Rewards and Dream. If you hit dream, he will send you to a little room that has the coffer and overloads where you can set up for NMZ.
Why are people trying to get rid of this? Serious question? I have 4 alts and I use NMZ to get 99s in all my combat stats and it’s much easier than gemstone crab. I can afk and even walk away from my pc for 19-20 min, I usually set a 19 min timer because 20 min is when it will make you stop attacking, and then click absorption pots. Not sure why people are against it because for alting it’s very good
I'd be sad if they did because NMZ at least provides a "healthy" way of AFK combat training since it requires you to at least progress your account to do well, unlike the gem crab which you can do straight off tutorial island.
I'd be OK with them relocating it or changing the way it looks. But as a piece of content it should stay.
It looks like a day 1 Minecraft house when you are still working out what you want to do.
A little outline of the space you are going to use, some random containers and fixtures haphazardly placed in a temporary location. A chest outside your friend placed to drop things off that ends up being a permanent fixture.
NZM is a memorial to a time when OSRS lacked the tools to build fully fleshed out content, so the team went full RSPS recylcing content and released jank the likes of which weren't seen prior to 2006—unless it was on an actual RSPS.
the fact that people call NMZ 'rsps-like' but willingly voted for sailing boggles my mind. i think its good we have a convenient piece of content to replay less significant quest boss fights.
Well I and many players like me have wanted sailing for longer than OSRS has existed, so it really shouldn’t boggle your mind. The skill has been on the community’s radar for decades. Long before voting on RuneScape was a thing.
How is sailing even close to being like an rsps? Have you ever played an rsps before? Any new content they have is full of jank reused assets exactly like NMZ because they don't have the capacity to make new stuff. Sailing is full of bespoke new content and mechanics, it needed a large engine rework to make it even possible. Whether or not you like sailing, it's about as far from an rsps addition as you can get lol
I downvote literally every other summer sweep up post because they are all some form of easyscape bs but I fully support removing this herblore minigame where you can get inquistor.
