Suggestion [Suggestion] Upgraded Justiciar and Inquisitor armor sets

Unironically a very cool suggestion

Completely agree. Best version of upgrading both sets that I’ve seen. Also simple to understand

u/lepsek9 Jul 10 '26
Kinda hilarious that the go-to prayer gear is still a set from idk 20 years ago?
47
u/larryjerry1 Jul 10 '26
I mean if you're actually running prayer gear Sunfire fanatic is technically the best.
14
4
u/Liefblue Jul 10 '26
They couldn't even commit to giving sunfire armour neutral/lower range/magic attack similar to proselyte.
So Proselyte wasn't even power crept in a lot of scenarios. Kinda ridiculous that nichescape tries preserve even something like proselyte.
→ More replies (1)2
u/lepsek9 Jul 10 '26
Best, sure, but not as universally accessible as the good ol' prostelyte det.
But I guess times do be changing...

u/Hawxe Jul 10 '26
This isn’t true though

4
u/Oniichanplsstop Jul 10 '26
He said go-to, which is true. Pros is the go-to prayer gear even if sunfire is better. It's cheaper and easier to obtain.
1
u/Hawxe Jul 10 '26 edited Jul 10 '26
which means it will still be the go to even with this suggestion? whats your point lmao? you think a justi and inq upgraded set will then become the go-to? obviously not, which means your pedantic point is... pointless.
edit. lmao dude wrote a shitpost reply and blocked average osrs reddit

u/lepsek9 Jul 10 '26
New high-end gear is great and always welcome, but prossy will always have a spotty n the game

10/10 suggestion. It's wild to me that these armor sets aren't better given that they come from the hardest raid in the game and a boss where the GM time is 6 minutes that also can hit you for up to 80 for a single mistake.

Making the upgrade a quest reward and not another raid reward is a huge plus. I'd fully support this addition to the game

u/Nebuli2 Jul 10 '26
This is a surprisingly good suggestion, and I really like it. My only minor suggestion would be that 70 defense is perhaps too low for some form of fortified Inquisitor. Oathplate is at 78 defense, and after the summer sweep up, Inquisitor will be even stronger for crush than Oathplate is for slash, so it wouldn't make much sense for it to have a lower requirement, IMO.

u/The_Wkwied 2376 w353 Jul 10 '26
This is a cool idea.
I really wish there were some sort of method to upgrade the rapier and sang staff from Vampyrium. An easy to obtain item or something that you only need to interact with to buff those items.
Same buff from SSU, but unlocked through the gm quest... maybe
49
25
u/Xeffur Jul 10 '26
Upgrade mory pve content with mory quest content. Nice, I like it, although I think both need a straight yp buff, especially Justi since its a raid armor. But this would be much better than nothing.
41
u/hurtshtummy Jul 10 '26
cool suggestion. Bonus points if it’s an untradable upgrade requiring lets say 90-92 smithing, maybe even 90 mining (boostable). Good for the game having untradable high skill req upgrades
9
u/Shitty__Psychologist Jul 10 '26
I don't think you need to make things untradeable, half the player base are irons already so the people who benefit from that payoff aren't going to be negatively affected by it being tradeable.
8
u/hurtshtummy Jul 10 '26
Like 20 - 30% are Irons. Surge potions are untradable and require 81 herblore which I think is a good thing. Untradable buffs give skilling meaning for all accounts and give people something to strive for. I’m saying this as a main
→ More replies (1)1
u/Shitty__Psychologist Jul 10 '26
i believe it was a year or so ago where something came out from a mod that described irons being about 40% of players, and i think that's only gone up since, so i think a 20-30% estimate woulda been true maybe a few years ago
→ More replies (2)2
u/hurtshtummy Jul 10 '26
anecdotally when i’m around the game doing stuff no where near half the players I see are irons. Maybe 25%. I guess we’ll see the next time jagex releases some community statistics
5
u/googahgee Jul 10 '26
Maybe all the irons are busy doing birdhouse runs or harvesting seaweed
1
u/hurtshtummy Jul 10 '26
honestly fair point all the irons are at cg, birdhouse runs and doing farm runs lmao
1
u/Even_Position1176 Jul 10 '26
Really depends where you look, irons typically dont bankstand at the GE, and mains dont typically bankstand at the small island north of Fossil Island

u/Iron_Aez 2376 Jul 10 '26
Untradeable will never happen because normies will get mad.
Given silvthril is silver + mithril, i'm not sure how a mining requirement would make sense though.
31
u/Dimethyllysergamide Jul 10 '26
From BMR: "Not just any silvthrill. Pure silvthrill. The smiths of Hallowvale were able to perfect the process of creating the alloy, making it far more powerful than the crude form used in your flail. Unfortunately, the secrets to that process have long been lost, but pure silvthrill can still be found, provided you know where to look.". A lore tie-in would be pretty easy, you excavate some silvthrill statue in vampyrium to get pure silvthrill shards that you then re-smelt into bars or something
22
u/AssassinAragorn Jul 10 '26
Maybe after BMR we can see a ghost in the icyene graveyard who teaches us how that process works, and then we work with Efaritay to create a forge capable of doing so on Vampyrium (because it would pose too much of a threat to the Vyres if it was readily available in the city itself). We mine pure silver from old Everlight artifacts and then use it to make the perfect alloy to then upgrade the armors.
Bonus points if we can get Safalaan involved in this, and it turns out that the pure silvthrill dust can be used in a potion to help Safalaan with his condition. It'd give Efaritay strong incentive to help with the forge
5
u/YouKnewMe_ Jul 10 '26
Perhaps "pure" silverthril is an alloy of silver + mithril + a small amount of a third metal I will hastily name "newthingium". The source of newthingium has been lost to time (or depleted by vyres after the fall of hallowvale?), however it was a popular metal to make jewelry of in vampyrium back in the day. Add newthingium jewelry to the tarnished jewelry table with a high alch value rivaling dragon items.
Either alch it for gp or melt them down to use in silverthril.
1
u/ChilledParadox Jul 10 '26
maybe after you unlock all the saradomin ghosts in the HS lobby the archpriest of the Owl will tell you how they smelted silvthrill and turned it into the hallowed marks and traps that litter the tomb.
11
u/Iron_Aez 2376 Jul 10 '26
I'm honestly so over this "ancient lost tech that's impossible for you" trope. It's lazy and overdone.
Let's just rediscover the process already.

9
3
4
u/hurtshtummy Jul 10 '26
I’m a normy and would love this and i’m sure my normy friends would too. Irons aren’t the only players who like earning upgrades
3
u/Iron_Aez 2376 Jul 10 '26
Ok to be clear, saying "normies will get mad" doesn't mean "all normies will get mad" just "too many normies will get mad" for jagex to do this.
1
u/Even_Position1176 Jul 10 '26
But why would you want it to be untradable?
3
u/hurtshtummy Jul 10 '26
Valuable untradable rewards from skilling raise prices for raw materials, give players a reason to train the skill to a higher level, and give meaning and prestige to having the item in the first place. Only downside I feel is that low level players can’t just buy the upgrade outright but the whole reason to play the game is to level up so I don’t really see that as a downside.
3
u/ComfortableCricket Jul 10 '26
Or maybe mains is about having an open and free economy and overly forcing iron play style is stupid when ironman mode exists.
Some untradables are good, but not everything. In this instance it would be fine if the upgrade is reverse able and players aren't losing too much time/gp doing so.

u/Mythril_Bullets Jul 10 '26
Make Justiciar armor have best prayer bonus???? Armor from a raid????? What are we, logical and based????
15
u/Sesshomaru17 Jul 10 '26
Proselyte doesn't have the best prayer bonus sunfire does. 90 smithing the hardest quest boss and a gm quest finale does infact make it okay to power creep an early game quest series. Shit reactions like this are why we're stuck in nichescape
3
u/barcode-lz Jul 10 '26
Proselyte isnt bis prayer, its barely higher than monk robes.
Sunfire would still be better for purely prayer.
1
u/holy_ra Jul 10 '26
Sadly thatd put sunfire armor out of commission, but it does deserve some prayer and some strength, pretty useless sets (both of them)
37
u/Tuneage4 2376 Jul 10 '26
What if it could be mined easily but needed a special furnace that could only be accessed like after a raid, so you'd have to do the entire raid with raw ore in your inventory
24
u/Enough-Print5812 Jul 10 '26
You might be joking but that would honestly be so sick. The only way to upgrade the armor is like challenge mode raid where you can make it harder by having less inventory space but with greater reward
9
u/Ryu6912 Jul 10 '26 edited Jul 10 '26
Dude ya that’s actually insanely cool as long as they make the silver bar untradeable. That way someone can’t just abuse the raid and flood the market with ingots.
Edit: I’m a main not an ironman just fyi
0
u/Enough-Print5812 Jul 10 '26
Fuggit, make the armor untradeable too. Give effort its prestige back
→ More replies (1)2
u/Even_Position1176 Jul 10 '26
Honest question, why not just play an ironman if you want things to be untradable?
3
u/Enough-Print5812 Jul 10 '26
I do only play ironman lol. And i know that the game is built on trading and economy, but the things that are challenging to get and aren't tradeable are some of the coolest items in the game (blorva, ca tiers, infernal cape/quiver). It would also encourage people to actually try challenging content to get a moderate upgrade rather than having the "best" gear available to anyone who has spare cash laying around (which is already how all the best gear works). It would be a flex and an achievement
1
u/CodyIsDank Jul 11 '26
Whole reason people have pride in the first time accomplishments like Fire Capes and Barrows Gloves. Significant account progression that you can’t just buy via Vorkath.
Untradables are awesome for mainscape. It gives great value to resources. Think about the demand for herbs if the next super combat potion is untradable and everyone now needs 90 herb instead of 70.
Main skilling milestones are Quest Cape, CoX potions, Diary Cape and Max. That’s nothing overall!

u/142muinotulp Jul 10 '26
Theres a boss pet on RS3 where you get an item from one elite dungeon (closest osrs equivalent is a raid), then you take it to a different one and use it on something after the final boss. That unlocks the pet
4
1
u/adamwhoopass 2277 Jul 10 '26
Yeah I'm for this idea but it needs to come from PvM content as raw mats
1
u/Many_Professions Jul 10 '26
Yeah, you have to place it on the ground in front of the last boss and get out of the way so they cast a certain aoe spell and miss you but hit the ore to melt it down

Wait so we get actual rewards from the quest??
This is a little too crazy. Permission to do content is the only reward we are allowed now.
5
u/Lizzardsizzle Jul 10 '26
I say just source the silverthrill through hallowed sepulchre, melt down x amount hallowed marks since thats currently the only known source of pure silverthrill.
If that and BMR aren’t enough, maybe add a chromium bar requirement too?

u/Valediction191 2376 Jul 10 '26
Justiciar sounds another dps gear diluting the pool of dps gears. It’s just going to be mediocre.
Can it better fill its niche as an actual tank armour by having flat armour on it?

u/JamesDerecho Jul 10 '26
Toss in the Orikalkum Gravel as part of the new alloy and you’ve sold me. Surely there will be a use for them… surely.
5
4
u/Rich-Badger-7601 Jul 10 '26
The simplest and best buff to Justi IMO would simply be to enable its passive to work per piece rather than requiring the entire set.
2
u/Flurp_ Jul 10 '26
I had this (really dumb) idea about the armor upgrade when watching the same bae podcast with Arcane, when they were saying raids don't need to have an armor.
I thought about something kind of guthixian symbol thing, which you combine with other god components - zamorak from inq, Sara from justi, and bandosian components, to make the upgraded crush BiS sidegrade to torva.
It would be unreasonably expensive but the real badass bis.
2
u/0rinx Jul 10 '26
Ya with a lot of people being against combining inq and justi just having them be upgraded with completing bmr and having high smithing makes a lot of sense.
2
u/66f6 Jul 10 '26
Nice idea, and it would give another much needed worthwhile reward to Blood Moon Rises.
2
u/Prestigious-Candy-29 Jul 10 '26 edited Jul 10 '26
Yes I like this.
Makes justi great where you are praying but can't avoid all damage. Some higher level slayer tasks come to mind such as rune dragons where it is already used, drakes, and now very useful at some bosses where if you are learning the mechanics the damage reducing effect may be worth the extra max hit or two lost from bandos + neit faceguard. Would also be an even better choice for vardorvis than it is.
As for inquisitor this makes a lot of sense and means the upgraded version is much more equivalent to oathplate. Maybe follow the same idea and also give it the best crush def, with weaker stab/slash/ranged def.
Maybe the silvithril for the justi, I don't know if maggot king needs more drops or some sort of time consuming gathering (similar to infernal shale and smithing oathplate) for it. For the inquisitor some other component as a rare drop from upcoming raids 4 which will fortify the inquisitors and keep the crush theme there could work.
2
u/loffredom Jul 10 '26 edited Jul 10 '26
This feels like a great route for an upgrade path. Both armor sets are already difficult to get so having their upgrade locked behind another piece of difficult content (like raids 4) doesn't make a ton of sense
This gives the upgrades a moderate barrier but very much attainable by the point you get these armor sets, and also fits thematically. Also adds another high impact reward from BMR and vampyrium which feels a little barren at the moment. This seems like a really good solution
2
u/Bakugo_Dies Jul 10 '26
Make it an involved process like smithing oathplate to add skilling value and I'm on board.
2
u/ProfessionalGuess897 Jul 10 '26
Woah woah woah take it easy with the good ideas and smart logic here! All jagex can do is add some more overpriced niche items ok?
2
u/Basic_Match_3204 Jul 10 '26
You cooked with this idea. Posting a comment so Jagex hopefully sees your suggestion!
2
u/Yuki-Kuran Jul 10 '26 edited Jul 11 '26
Give it the Infernal Shale smithing process treatment, along with a huge amount of silver/mithril + maybe a uncommon drop from something to purify and it would be a fun minigame where you fold/purify the alloy.
But of course, it would mean we would need to rediscovering how to make pure silvthril, so alternatively, maybe introducing a new use for all those excess hallowed marks?
1
u/RothonTalvanen Jul 12 '26
The rediscovery process could be a miniquest. Those are a fun way to add content like that.
2
u/RedWingedScreecher Jul 10 '26
A smithing rework would be a great way to implement a toned down version of invention from rs3.
2
u/RollThatD20 Jul 10 '26
Smithing, crafting, and runecrafting could all be utilized in such a way, and in some small ways, already have been.
2
2
u/Orange_Duck451 Jul 10 '26
Curious where justiciar would see use cases after this buff. Certainly before BIS gear but I'm wondering if it would be BIS itself anywhere
2
2
u/ArtyGray DEMON SLAYER Jul 10 '26
I kinda like smithing having more level requirement use cases. The purpose of being an armor fortifier at higher levels is interesting.
2
u/spatzist Jul 11 '26
Silvthrill is specifically anti-vampire tech in lore, but I think metal alloys in general would be a cool avenue to explore for smithing.
2
u/SeniorButternips Jul 11 '26
Kinda wild that Justi being the only melee armour from a raid is still the worst out of the high level armours. It's just begging for an update.
I'd start by suggesting remove the "set" effect like are doing with Inq and make it a "per piece" effect similar to how crystal armour works, you dont need the full set so you can mix and match. (Justi + Frem Faceguard just looks too cool to not have it work like this)
And yeah maybe rework the effect so its not "based on your equiped defensive stats it reduces damage like" and into a simpler all-round damage resist, something like: Body gives 7.5% DR Legs gives 5% DR Helm gives 2.5% DR For a total of 15% Damage Resist for the full set
Keeping its harsh negative magic defense so its still taking magic hits often, but still being able to reduce the magic damage taken per hit to a degree.
And change the % numbers to actually be balanced in the calcs because these were just off the top of my head to get the point across.
Just do something like that and give justi a bit of a prayer bonus boost and it'd be chill as a full tank armour, no strength bonus required.
1
u/Ultimaya Jul 12 '26
give each piece 1 armour, and an additional 2 for wearing the full set, in place of it's percentile-based DR
1
u/SeniorButternips Jul 13 '26
Yeah even better, %DR would be pretty busted in osrs, tanking zuk hits lol
2
u/og_obelix 2300+ Jul 10 '26
This is the best suggestion about the inq/justi situation I have seen so far. Well done!
2
u/BeastOnDem 2376 Jul 10 '26
The ore should be an untradeable uncommon raids 2 or raids 4 reward, like 1/15 or 1/20. Three ore needed for legs and platebody two for the helm
9
u/empireAndromeda Jul 10 '26
Or just use the orikalkum gravel they just added that has no use
2
2
u/AssassinAragorn Jul 10 '26
I'm convinced it's going to get a use, I've been hanging onto mine. They talked about doing some mining and smithing reworks next year so it feels like a clear opportunity
1
u/Even_Position1176 Jul 10 '26
Hopefully we get a way to melt that down into dragon bolts (unf) or something
3
u/empireAndromeda Jul 10 '26
I feel like if they were going to convert them into bolts it would've been added with the dart and arrowtips
1
u/Diocletians-Scepter Jul 10 '26
I like this, would prefer if you needed an added component from a boss drop though
1
u/BlaksCharm Jul 10 '26
This is such a good idea! Keeping the low req version of Inq seems the perfect way to do this

u/loffredom Jul 10 '26 edited Jul 10 '26
if it had obsidian strength bonus and a ton of prayer like proselyte it would def be much better than it is now. Obsidian str bonus doesn't sound too appealing at first but in some situations it's barely (and sometimes not) even a downgrade from bandos depending on if it gives you a max hit or not
Like if you're sacrificing 1-2 max hits, but gaining insane defenses and prayer bonus it could save food, resources, inventory space etc. and less banking is a huge time save. It still probably wouldn't be top tier like torva/oath but I can def see new use cases popping up for it
2
u/Suza751 Jul 10 '26
Would see alot of use. The few prayer bonuses fanatic gives you is not comparable to the strength and tank upgraded justy would give you.
1
u/loffredom Jul 10 '26
Yeah you can argue that even if it were slightly less prayer than proselyte so it doesn't devalue sunfire as much it would still be extremely useful
1
u/AshRemnants Jul 10 '26
But then smithing would be a useful skill! Can't just be rewarding people for skilling can we?

I would rather inquisitors to stay defensive instead of homogenizing armour TBH. I would be fine with giving each piece of inquisitor 1 flat armour and a set bonus of +2 for 6 flat armour for wearing the whole set. That way with rondosh you get +8 flat armour and lets you tank through chip damage in raids.
1
u/xxlsjokerxx Jul 10 '26
Honestly cool with this it make sense maybe instead on justi though just add some flat armor would help it be useful
1
u/DM_ME_UR_PUBES maxxed gm iron btw Jul 10 '26
Why should default justi not be like this from the get go? I dont understand why we need an extra 100 hour grind to make raids armour good

u/blkfish92 Jul 10 '26
Literal amazing idea. This should be seriously considered with designs being polled. Straight genius.
1
u/Zenekei Jul 10 '26 edited Jul 10 '26
This is awesome! I would make just a few minor changes! Rename from Pure Silverthrill to Silverthrill Ingots.
Make these Silverthrill Ingots have a chance to drop every time you roll on unique table from the Maggot King at a rate of roughly 1/100. Also while we're at it, make it so that Elder Venator Fang and Crimson Kisten also need three independent 'invisible' unique rolls to avoid players going too dry ofc and they need 3 Silverthrill ingots to craft their respective items. Every time you hit this unique roll, it drops a gold ring so players don't get burnt out.
Also, revisit the drop table in 3 years and make it so players can actually craft the Silverthrill ingot using 40 adamant and rune ore in case they dont have enough at the blast furnace for 170k gp

Anything to improve the prominence of these two sets should be welcome. The designs are so good.
1
u/pargmegarg Jul 10 '26
I think adding a strength bonus to Justi and a defense bonus to Inq would homogenize them a bit too much. Armor should have different niches for different content.
Definitely like the prayer bonus on Justi and a reason to grind smithing/mining.
1
u/Goaty_McGruff Jul 10 '26
Justuciar shouuld just get the buff outright. I agree that this is good for inquisitor

1
u/OkImportance8279 Jul 10 '26
On top of being able to upgrade Inquisitor I really hope done day there will be a possibility of obtaining a cosmetic variant of it by means of doing something similar to blorva or radiant. I think it would look cool !
1
u/JustFourLetters Jul 10 '26
i… actually don’t hate this. unsure that 90 is the number, just feels like one you picked to be prohibitively high, but i think armor upgrading is a good way to keep stuff relevant
1
u/Forward-Option-6120 Jul 10 '26
Damn I was just about to suggest something like this. But not the same way. Either way the outcome is what we're looking for, the method can be adjusted.

Incredible, a suggestion so good that the top comment isn't "how many are you holding on"
1
u/Periwinkleditor Jul 13 '26
Granted, each piece requires 1000 hallowed marks to melt down into the pure silvthrill.
1
u/SirDemonLord Jul 14 '26
In my opinion not every armour should have Strength bonus, otherwise we’ll fall into the RS3 trap of “power armour vs tank armour” where the tank armour became almost entirely irrelevant.
Inquisitior’s should be altogether buffed defensively to rune armour tier, and Oathplate should also go to rune defence tier to match it.
This ensures Bandos, and Torva, still have a purpose without power creeping anything.
1
u/bloedlink Jul 14 '26
I would rather say that to make these bars, you break justiciar, melt it and then use that to improve inquisitor. This is better for the economy and i don't see why justiciar should get a free upgrade without adding content for this.
