Not much of a joke, just a user that used to post a lot of shit takes on this subreddit. It got to the point where anything he posted would get replies saying 'Shut up Serene'. As you can see from his profile he's been gone for many years at this point.
You can kind of make it work on Android by enabling the resize any app option. Even forcing it into vertical though, you end up with microscopic UI buttons, so it's basically only good for stuff where you don't have to actually use/drop items/prayers/spells.
So basically just mixology, agility, who knows what else!
Hamburger is used for vertical because you stack the ingredients up, hotdog is horizontal cause you lay the ingredients out. Or something like that according to my first grade teacher lol
Can you elaborate on this? I've always done it the above way but just tried to look this up and downloaded the app and it doesn't force OSRS to portrait.
I think you have to allow the app to display over other apps? Edit: Im using a z fold so this might still look like ladscape to you but I promise its portrait.
I am personally extremely keen to fully explore a portrait mode. What it can offer for more casual activities is immense and I can see it increasing how much I use mobile myself even.
The biggest challenge is what we do with most the main interfaces in the game. They are designed to fit a landscape set up, like the Bank, Shop UIs, Grand Exchange, so on and so on, there are hundreds throughout the game.
These already feel quite small for the most part, so even if we displayed em constrained to the width of the phone, they are going to be very difficult to use.
Now in theory it is possible for us to make portrait versions of important interfaces. Things like the Bank could be given an alternative layout to use in this mode. The amount of work to do that for the whole game though is not possible.
Any suggestions on how we could approach this problem?
I think I saw someone propose this before and a mod responded saying that it would be cool, but it would require restructuring all the menus in the game because they were built with landscape in mind.
You'll need to install an application (some phones also allow that natively with multi-screen etc.) that forces your screen to vertical mode. This, however, makes your UI very small so only large screen is viable for anything else than AFK.
They hate that people use Runelite over their client, isn't this just leaving the door wide open for some modder to launch their own mobile client to fill the void since Jagex are always 180 steps behind?
probably the best middle ground is do portrait mode for the top 10 or so screens (bank, tele interfaces, settings, etc.), and force landscape for the less common ones. It's literally hundreds of interfaces, most of which would likely rarely get used by someone in portrait mode.
That's weird because I was one of the first people that got access to the mobile beta and there was a vertical option at the start and I much preferred it too lmao
In split screen mode sometimes my clicks just register a few pixels lower than where I click. It's so unfortunate because I love watching something on youtube and doing some low intensity activity in the game
When you initially make it split screen it can cause pixels to be out of sorts however if you're able to save the configuration like I can here this will add a shortcut to your home screen. When you reload this shortcut this solves the issue for me (Aside from small screen and fat finger issues)
Use roration control pro, force the app to go portrait.
"Oh but now my menus are too small" - go to your accessibility settings, search for magnification tool (on samsung when you activate it you can press side button with vol + to turn it on and off)
Now you have a magnification screen where you can see your stuff better.
You'll be able to do bossing with it? I don't think so (probably a really crazy dude will post doing raids like this) but for chill stuff is ok. I'm doing cannonballs smithing with this and works pretty good. Ppl says fletching is really good doing this
With it you're technically not clicking where the icon is supposed to be, and although that's possible with RuneLite, people have been banned for moving positions of buttons on mobile.
You can do this on most androids through developer options. I almost exclusively play vertical mobile for easy 1-handed taps. Usually with youtube or something up top, but it's nice for using the wiki as well.
Kinda reminds me of the original fixed aspect mode. I'd love this, but my only gripe is I still want a minimap somewhere, even if it has to be rectangular or some other compromise.
This definitely looks better, but you CAN do vertical if you place a small app at the top/bottom of your screen if your phone supports multiwindow. But it does need a real vertical mode!
Unironically my only notes would be adding the world map as a lower-window and/or support for rotating on the fly (like not having to go into settings to change orientation every time).
I wouldn't use it most of the time, but I support lol
Lmao, we know Jagex isn't going to do this.. someone is going to have to do this themselves, Jagex will try to shut it down, and the community will bounce back against Jagex just like Runelite. I mean come on, mobile constantly has 50 bugs in it and Jagex doesn't even fix these issues.. if they try, they fix 3 and 8 more appear.
This would actually make it 500 times easier for me to play with my disability!!! (Landscape mode in general just doesn't really work with my hands due to my condition)
looks nice, but imagine playing like this... you need to constantly click the top of the screen with one hand to move and the bottom part for prayers/inventory, so you will be holding the phone with both hands and covering everything there.
IMO, it would be better to have it opposite way - with movement at the bottom and all ui at the top, so it will be easier to click with one hand for simple non-combat content
