I miss my postie.

I used to hear my friends and family in different areas of Aberdeen moan about going days without getting any post and I never appreciated it because my postie was awesome, such a nice bloke and you knew if he didn't get your parcel delivered that day, it was because the man had been ridiculously busy. Then he went on holiday for 2 weeks awhile ago and I have seen him once and since he is no longer my postie it sucks. Whichever area has him, you are so lucky. 2 days my parcels have been "ready for delivery" but alas they have not made it out for delivery yet. I never knew how lucky I was.

The entire postal system in Aberdeen seems to be chaos at the moment, had post once this past month, with our regular postie also gone and replaced by someone who just dumps mail at bottom of stairs rather than putting through individual letter boxes.

(Main security door in my block doesn't have its own letterbox, and posties have been putting them through each flat letterbox in the 14 or so years I've lived here... until now).

Complain to them , if each flat has a letterbox, is self contained and pays council tax and is accessible I think they are under an obligation to deliver to each flat.

Has been since at least this time last year. AB12 (the big centers own postcode!) was particularly affected, and at one point even 1st class and tracked 24 wasn’t always turning up. Tracked 48 was more tracked 144+ and 2nd class was simply “sometime this decade”. Missed hospital appointments etc because of it. This happened for months.

Wrote to my MP who took it to the higher echelons of RM. Suddenly all mail started turning up quickly and efficiently then on in…

or maybe they just got the sorting office organised again and now deliver on time

Hasn’t there been a big change to Royal Mail lately? Like with how stuff is sorted and whatever, which has lead to a bunch of posties quitting?

Sucks either way, noticed I’ve not had mail for a couple of weeks apart from one parcel that I was expecting. Have seen posties just dumping mail at the bottom of the stairs too like another commenter said

correct new sorting systems are in place from 26th Oct, to be more efficient, but it won’t work, it’s around parcels basically letters are being phased out in the long term as RM is not making money sending letters anymore. however the new rules don’t allow an additional hour of OT that posties got to sort, meaning it 0900-1530 and the 0900 is the sorting start time so letters are effectively being made to wait days to go out by the time parcels are sorted routes planned we already lose almost 2 hours of delivery time.

Had a T24 arrive last week that had been sent 30.04.26 lol

It had been accidentally routed to Stonehaven and sat there for months before going to Westhill where the tracking then changed to " Returning to sender"

It didn't go back to sender and I received it in the end , it was addressed to my flat in Rosemount lol.

I just don’t have one any more. I haven’t had any mail delivered for 3 months.

I have to go to the office and check if there is anything and pick it up.

Missed a few hospital app’s because of it

The hospital or NHS appointments is not really Royal Mails fault. Pretty sure they get picked up by Whistle/TNT which are sent to Glasgow area iirc for processing and then sent back to Altens for RM to sort and them deliver. So it can easily take more than a week, likely two weeks, before its in a real posties hands. I could be wrong and It has perhaps changed but it was like this for as long as I was in Altens 2008 til 2 months ago. Look into "Downstream Access Mail" or similar if you are interested. Or look at your mail, it will say "Delivered by Royal Mail" meaning its been collected/processed by another company first.

All NHS appointments are 2nd class too which is now delivered sometime instead of the two or three days it used to be. I missed a non-NHS appointment because the letter didn't arrive until 2 days after the appointment, the first I knew about was when I was getting hassle for missing it.

The parcels should not be like an Evri experience. I’d complain to your local sorting office. Although 24 or 48 hours is an estimate, if it’s hit to the local sorting office it should be that day and the postie is at it. They prioritise parcels over mail these days so this should not happen. I have a great service from Royal Mail out here in the Shire, parcel wise and I’d be straight on the phone if I didn’t.
