AA MAINTENANCE HANGAR DIFFERENCES

Hey everyone, (TULE AA MAINTENANCE)

I’m looking to apply for a maintenance position in Tulsa and would appreciate some insight from anyone familiar with the different hangar in TULSA OVERHAUL BASE

I’m specifically considering:

Hangar 6

Hangar 3

AAERO Hot Shop

AAERO Cold Shop

AAERO Intro/After Test Shop

What are the main differences between these locations in terms of the type of work, aircraft or components handled, shift schedules, overtime opportunities, work environment, and overall experience?

Are there any hangars that are generally better for someone starting out and trying to build experience? I’d also appreciate any information about training, management, workload, and opportunities for advancement.

Thanks in advance for any advice!

Hopefully your seniority date starts with 19xx if you think you're getting into the engine shop

Nah I don’t think I’m getting it. I was curious as to what it was.

Cold shop works on the first stages of the engines, hot shop works on the latter section of the engines. As far as the intro/after, I'm not sure.

Thanks a lot. I’m considering either hangar 3 or 6. I’m an internal transfer trying to see the differences before I add to the transfer list.

Isn’t that 777/787 heavy check?

I think so. They might have a drop in line too, not sure what all they do over there.

I’d rather be at the 737 isn’t that 5 and 3? I was there very briefly.

777/787 heavy checks were a mess when I was there. And trying to get all the cabin stuff in and out… Fucking forget it.

As far as I know, 5 and 6 can fit both wide bodies and narrow bodies, so they will get 37’s for summer I think to keep the big birds flying during peak summer months, then do heavy checks for wide bodies not during summer. I’ve been on the narrow body side since I started so someone else might know better. 1, 2, and 3 are all heavy check 737 lines, except hangar 2 has one or two drop in lines I think. 1,2,3 physically can’t fit the big birds so if you want to avoid the triples and the 8’s that’s where you want to go.

Im in hangar 1/2 so i cant speak first hand. But hangar 3 is 2 heavy check lines for NG’s. And 6 is a drop in/ new heavy line on widebody aircraft. For the most part everyone is pretty cool but there are definitely some less than ideal people to work with out here.. but that’s anywhere tbh

Engine shop will work you more than the hangars and you'll likely be doing the same jobs on every engine.

Hangar 6 has a 787 heavy and will be adding another soonish. Drop ins and summer ready checks aren't going anywhere.

I hate 737s so don't go to hangar 3.

Each shop has pretty great and pretty crap people. As with most of AA, 20% of the people do 80% of the work.

For experience I'd recommend 6 because of the variety.

Did you guys not see the realignment notice for Hangar 5/6? Lots of AMT are being moved from 5 to 6.. like 40 Generals and 16 Avionics.. i think its slowly becoming a wide body Heavy instead of Special Visits only.
