Master Builder's "YOU" vs the devil in Mansoul
My name is Christian Mumford & I am an Alan Moore fan - I started with his Swamp Thing & Miracleman & Watchmen in the 80s because my burning ambition at 22 Acacia Avenue was graduating Joe Kubert School in 1995 which I did. It landed me jobs too - the rest is a fanciful tale of wild nightmares & dream dragons & city people in the Roadhouse blues in the boonies with secret agents & soldier boys. Thus my art & writing is a far cry from realism and is more akin to alchemy & gnostic practice and my sphere of influence is a cobweb of distro deals in print and a dream come true & artist ambition fulfilled with passion & poets life though that's a joke I think is a Full Moon burning of my poetry & art during Jihad.

Is Crossed Alan Moore’s ideal model of the comic for the comic industry?
Not the judging the quality of the book but more so the nature as a franchise.
It's a creator owned non-superhero franchise, where the orginal book is untouched allowing for the story to end and other Creators can come end and play around with the IP and do whatever they want without much interference but at the end the day the franchise is still creator owned so no one is getting screwed.
Is this the actual ideal model of the industry. I think people in general misquote Moore as someone who is against any sorta shared universe or spinoffs ( despite ABC line) rather than creators rights.

Alan Moore indirectly addresses “thoughts and prayers”
“Although it is entirely understandable and clearly does no harm to light a votive candle or to offer up a plea for loved ones in distress, it might be better to extend material assistance and support than to rely on magical endeavours which, conceivably, may bring about more problems than solutions.”
From The Moon and Serpent Bumper Book Of Magic
Just had to laugh at this living in America and always seeing all the “thoughts and prayers” tidings from people that don’t want to do anything for, yet want to seem sympathetic to. (School shootings usually get a bunch of these).

SKIZZ
I found this in a pile of books after forgetting that I had bought it on a recent comic shop run.
I've enjoyed a lot of our Alan's work from this period (Bojeffries, Halo Jones, D.R. & Quinch) and am looking forward to reading this.

Has anyone heard of the The Prince of Nothing Series By R.Scott Bakker (a forgotten masterpiece?)
The Prince of Nothing Trilogy by R. Scott Bakker is the modern lord of the rings. It's like if Cormac Mcarthy wrote an epic fantasy novel. Bakker's background is in philosophy and has an interest in neuroscience he uses these concepts to dismantle and recreate the conventions of the epic fantasy genre.
If I was being reductive Lord of the Rings meets Dune through the lense of Blood Meridian exploring the nature of free will and consciousness.
"The Dûnyain," Kellhus said after a time, have surrendered themselves to the Logos, to what you would call reason and intellect. We seek absolute awareness, the self- moving thought. The thoughts all men arise from the darkness. If you are the movement of your soul, and the cause of that movement precedes you, then how could you ever call your thoughts your own? How could you be any- thing other than a slave to the darkness that comes before? Only the Logos allows one to mitigate that slavery. Only knowing the sources of thought and action allows us to own our thoughts and our actions, to throw off the yoke of circumstance. And only the Dûnyain possess this knowledge, plainsman. The world slumbers, enslaved by its ignorance. Only the Dunyain are awake.
"Why do men fear the dark?" "Because darkness is ignorance made visible" "And do men despise ignorance?" "No... they prize it above all things but only so long as it remains invisible"
"Lies are but clouds, giants that blow and rage only to pass, always to pass. But the Truth is the sky, everlasting and elusive, a shelter in the day, an abyss in the night."
"If the Gods did not pretend to be human, Men would recoil from them as from spiders."
"Truth and hope are like travellers in contrary directions. They meet but once in any man's life."
To read Bakker is to stand before a mirror that never gives back an image, only fractures, each crack a scar of absence. The abyss does not answer, it confirms: nothing lies behind the reflection, because the reflection was never there.

Just finished From Hell
A friend recommend me this. I devoured it in a couple of days. Absolute master piece 10/10. Can't praise it enough. Now I'm left with that empty feeling one gets after finishing a good book, a television series or a movie. What would you guys suggest I use to fill that void?
Edit: Thanks so much for all the suggestions. You guys rock!

Alan Moore - Halloween Costume
Thinking about going as Alan Moore for Halloween, mostly because I get told I look like him a lot (hair, beard). What kind of apparel should I get to round out the look? Excessive rings, cane, Watchmen button? Needs to be enough that I don't just look like a random guy.

Alan Moore Says He Doesn’t Keep Copies of Most of His Comics Work in His House…
“…A handful of titles, I remain immensely proud of — you know, Lost Girls, the League, and a few others — … now the rest of it, it is long behind me. I don’t have copies of it in the house and I’ll never be looking at it again.”
- Interview on “Half the Picture”
September, 2026
Interesting that Lost Girls and League of Extraordinary Gentlemen were the first two (and only two) to come to mind. But my question: what do you think the others are?
(Meanwhile here’s us trying to collect everything he’s ever written…)

Alan Moore is one of the most interesting figures to me.
He doesn’t seem like other comic creators of his period. He seems more like an English professor who took a liking to comics & made a career out of it. He’s come to hate everything he worked on, not because it’s bad, it’s not, but because the bulk of comic readers are out of his league & he’s frustrated by them. He’s so enigmatic & unexplainable.

Alan Moore's Invocation of Glycon written in the Moon and Serpent Alphabet
Here is the transcript:
"Sweet Glycon sacred snake of light and wisdom, we entreat thee, come amongst us in thy glorious body if it be thy will. Come from the bright land without time. that we might know the touch of honeyed scales, thy splendour now uncoiling in our consciousness. Accept us into thine embrace, the blissful windings of thy perfect being, that our spirits are grown incandescent in thy golden radiance sublime. Immortal Glycon, luminous intelligence, immaculate and serpentine, anoint our eyes with thy delicious venom. That our sight may be as thine eternal sight. Let us now bask in the serene compassion of thy lidless gaze, all knowing, all encircling, exalted in thy grace and protection. In thy gleaming brow the sun is as a jewel, its billion facets scintillant with joy and reason, flooding over existences with brilliance O Glycon, most profound embodiment of great Aesclepius, kin to the Moon and disincarnate phallus of Osiris, rise within us now each one. O dazzling worm of dream and vision, self-devouring, self-creating, grant us thy flickering kiss, thy love divine, thy piercing revelation. Father of the Garden, let us taste the fruit of knowledge and slough off the world’s skin, sweet magnificence, o, blessed Glycon, come!"

I finished reading ‘Jerusalem’ …
… a couple of weeks ago and it easily entered my top three favourite novels of all time. Now I wrote a short review and posted it on Instagram almost 24 hours ago. I received zero likes and comments! I’m shocked about how little resonance I receive when I post about literature, especially good literature like ‘Jerusalem’. It’s so disappointing.
I’d also be happy to discuss it here with people who have read it too or on Instagram (I’m also open to connecting and DM).
Edit: Thank you to everyone who actually took the time to visit my Instagram post. From zero to 37 likes and 15 comments is amazing! I finally feel heard. 🙏

How Would Alan Moore Write Spider-Man?
Hey everyone!
Alan Moore's my favorite comic book writer and Spidey is my favorite comic book character. Now, I know Moore never wrote and has some criticising opinions on Spider-Man and I see his point in it. However, this raises another question for me: How would Alan Moore have written Spider-Man if he were given full control?
I am aware that "1963" mini-series of Image Comics by Moore contains a one-shot story about a character named "The Fury" who is basically a pastiche of Spider-Man (with some inspiring elements from Daredevil). But that series aimed to be an allusion of Silver Age Marvel Comics. Thus, this doesn't directly showcase how he would've written character.
Now, I ask again how Alan Moore would have written Spider-Man? Would it have been something similar to his work in Miracleman and Supreme (where everything the character previously went through has vanished by being a "dream" or an alternative continuity)? Would he give a lot stronger political context similar to his work in Watchmen with characters inspired by other creators (Rorschach and Nite Owl of Watchmen are inspired by Steve Ditko's work on Question and Blue Beetle (Ted Kord) respectively)? Or would it be something connected to his passion for occult and magic?
What are your thoughts on this?

Was retiring from comix a clever preemptive move to avoid "cancellation"?
Moore will always be controversial to some people, no matter how liberal he is. I remember noises about his stories apparently fixated on rape to an unhealthy degree, and similar accusations.
Unlike Joss Whedon & Neli Gaiman, Moore's personal life is uneventful (unless you count the old "throuple" situation), so the attacks were aimed at his scripts instead.. which could be a bit controversial.
I think he predicted the wind change and quit while ahead.
