WPL: New Comics Discussion for 10/14/2026- Pull of the Week: Doom Patrol #2 [Discussion]
The [Weekly Pull List results]() for this Wednesday are in, and this week's top book is DC's Doom Patrol #2.
This thread is open to Pull List posters and all members of the /r/comicbooks community to share your thoughts on the latest issue of DC's Doom Patrol or any new books shipping this week.
The primary intention of this thread is to promote discussion of new books. It also serves as a way to consolidate discussion to a single thread and talk about what books are popular here on /r/comicbooks. That does not mean other threads aren't welcome, this is just a place to start that's easy to find each week.
The thread is populated with comments meant to direct the discussion of each book. Based on community preference we populate the thread with titles appearing on Ten Percent or more of submitted pull lists. If a title you want to talk about is not listed, simply add a comment with the title and issue number first and comment below. There is also a comment dedicated to the discussion of WPL Results linked above.
Spoilers will follow, but there's no harm in tagging them as such. Each title in the Top Ten Percent listed below is linked directly to its corresponding comment for ease of navigation and to avoid seeing details from other books. The post has also been placed in "contest mode" to help readers avoid spoilers while browsing.

Discussion My Favorite Post-OMD Spider-Man Storylines
I know it’s a common sentiment that Spider-Man never had good stories after the deal with Mephisto, but I don’t think that’s true.
Sure, his current comics are trash, but he had some good stories in the early years Post-OMD.
These are some my favorites. I was tempted to include things like “Renew Your Vows” and “Life Story,” but I decided to stick to 616 only.
I also added Kaine as the Scarlet Spider and Flash as Agent Venom because they’re some of my favorite changes from that period.
Do you guys have any favorites?

Discussion What do you think of the Cameron Chase run 1998?
I'm just finished issue 8 now and love the Batman stuff with her I read JLA Year 1 Batman Year 1 and other Loeb series stuff and Alan Moore Killing Joke already so I take this as a sequel even though it works as a standalone perfectly. This is my old review
I just finished issue 7 and I'm going to read her first appearance in Batman 550 I also read JLA Year 1 which can count as a sequel and I was introduced to her in Batwoman new 52 same with Mr Bones.
I think this is a 10/10 run a great grounded exploration of DC outside of the usual stuff without being over the top edgy a soild main character whose issues flaws and growth is explored on screen instead of being rushed dumped way later or off screened underdeveloped and/or just told by another character like a lot of Tom King's work as much as I like him he is perfect example.
It uses some smaller characters like Clock King Klarion the witch Boy even some of the more underutilized teen Titans and Suicide Squad. Only issue I can think of which I gave it my one pass is that the killer of Chase's dad Acrobat Dr. Trap is cool but his story with his wife does fit those issues I have yeah we see him weeping over her grave but not the rest chase tells us to care about and yes the comics have little time but then again so did Detective comics 550(I only looked at it because I thought Chase would be there) when they did Joey Redwine story on his generational abuse even within 10 pages.
Then again it could be a subjective reval like with the Kryptonite Man in Grant Morrison action comics having him tell us about his life being ruined by Superman only to make a plot twist where it turns out he ruined his life by beating his wife and Superman saved her.

Discussion Do y’all read all your singles as they come out, or do you save them up to read in chunks?
I’m currently reading DNX along with its X-Men and FF tie-ins. It’s my first time reading any X-Men or FF stuff and I’m enjoying it so far for the most part. It’s also the first title / event with tie-ins that I’ve bothered to collect and keep up with.
But we’re about halfway into the event and each week I keep finding myself having to go back and look at or even completely reread previous issues. I’m seriously debating just putting it down until I’ve collected the whole run. I think it’s 12 issues total between the three titles.
How do y’all tackle longer events and tie-ins like this?

Question Is there any way for digital coloring to emulate the effect of the original newsprint?
(Image from The Incredible Hulk #312)The first image is digital and the second image is a scan. This isn't meant to be a salty post or completely hate on digital recolorings (although I do dislike a lot of them.) Is there any way for them to actually emulate how the colors looked on newsprint? I feel like SO much of the emotion is lost with the digital colors. I do think some of the colors aren't completely one to one, which is a different issue.

Custom comic box
Laminated some images and put them inside an unmodified store bought acrylic box. The box is approximately the size of a short box. Purpose was to be able to put the boxes in a bookcase and look nice alongside books.
On a side note, I just uploaded this post a few minutes ago then deleted it as the photo contained metadata such as the GPS location where the photo was taken, what phone model took the photo, etc. Not something I wanted so I subsequently took a screenshot of the photo on the monitor which captures no metadata.

HEROES REBORN (Aaron/McGuiness event)
So, just finished the trade and curious what others thought of it. I think I find it... not really a "waste", but it reminds me of SECRET EMPIRE (the event, not the OG arc). It does feel like it's holding up a mirror to current day (well, a couple years ago but <5 is "current" in my mind) and has some good intentions... but is such a nothing story with a rushed/aborted ending that any substance it may have had is immediately washed away.
I dunno, did anyone else read this summer event? I wouldnt blame you if you dont remember it. Entertaining enough "alternate universe" tale and bringing in different artists for the elseworlds parts makes it feel a little more fleshed out. The James Stokoe part focused on Doctor Spectrum stood out to me for sure. If you like au's, I'd definitely get it from the library. There's fun to be had with it.
But yeah. Uh, I think this was like part of Jason Aaron winding down his AVENGERS run which was a mixed bag. And you'll feel that here too. It's not bad necessarily but it's not very good either. Just kinda mid.

Question Which one is the better villain exploration comic collection. Batman Arkham: Hugo Strange 2020 or Superman Vs. Mongul 2013
Even as a huge Alan Moore fan and liking Starman and Martian manhunter the story didn't do enough for me it's just average and Alan moore comic at the end for the man who has everything I don't get why would Superman dream world have his dad as a fascist and no relationship with the kents from what I recall? As well as the others to my knowledge being background characters.
I understand he is more incompetent and meatheated a spoiled prince who uses distractions and wealth to hide that unlike Darkseid the avatar of evil who is just as much of a threat as a strategist but Darkseid is far more interesting to me more threatening has more lore cooler fights better conflicts and allies. Even without counting him there is already Helspoint from Superman new 52 who I think bounces off him way better. Mongul just doesn't do anything to really stand out from an average dictator let alone in Superman rogues gallery maybe Warworld or even a good boring villain like Krem of the Yellow hills in Woman of tomorrow comic mostly hype moments and aura to me.
His kids are more interesting to me as Hal Jordan Green Lantern villains mainly his son how someone like Geoff Johns does him or when he was a Martian Manhunter villain like the start of the comic I think they had more parallels there or even as a Batman villain in Brave and the Bold. I could also see him working way better as Wonder Woman villain she needs more diversity maybe how Gal Simone did Darkseid in Sensational Wonder Woman volumes could work for him with a few changes.
Hugo Strange leaves the generic mad scientist role and evolves from it quickly having an unique obsession with wanting to be Batman and does a great job proving a mental challenge to him without pulling BS and bounces off other villains well. He can fit in a grounded story or more fantastical one easy. Interesting while being mysterious instead of underdeveloped I liked Monster Men take already I read before this.
Mongul was more interesting to me in a collection of stories where he fights Superman as a Martian Manhunter or Starman villain and his last story is bad to me. Even in others he was more interesting with Batman in Brave and the Bold or even Jonah Hex. Maybe Warworld will change my mind
