Movie/TV Inde Navarrette says the first time she met the rest of the X-Men cast was at D23. No chemistry tests were done beforehand.

No chemistry tests at all? That makes me even more curious to see how this cast clicks on screen.

254

u/gentleprime 10h ago

They’re probably doing some weekend retreats or something beforehand, so the cast gets to know each other and build bonds. They will be spending several years together after all.

168

u/RaygunMarksman 10h ago

That must be weird if you realize you dislike some of your cast mates.

170

u/Meliodas016 9h ago

That's where the real test of one's acting is, I suppose.

109

u/gentleprime 9h ago

I dislike some of my coworkers but still have to work with them. Probably no different here?

47

u/Nrksbullet 8h ago

Natural chemistry certainly makes it easier but yeah their job is acting so on screen it should be surmountable

37

u/Plus_Claim_8938 7h ago edited 4h ago

Actors can have chemistry even if they hate each other.

A lot of great fictional couples have actors that famously hated each other.

On the other hand, actors can get along great with costars and have awful onscreen chemistry together.

2

u/Sim2redd 4h ago

Have you heard of coworkers?

12

u/pembunuhUpahan 8h ago

Perhaps in some kind of mansion with a jet

11

u/TheeHeadAche Henry Pym 7h ago

Perhaps a room to stimulate the danger they’re all face?

29

u/Ozlin 9h ago

Is something like this common? Based on what I've read from Wikipedia production notes on films, it seems most movies just expect actors to act like that have chemistry as needed. Given tight schedules and production companies always running tight with budgets, it would be surprising to me to schedule out such a thing. But maybe I'm wrong.

5

u/gentleprime 9h ago

I don’t know if it’s common but it’s not unheard of! I found a few examples:

The Big Chill

Everybody Wants Some

Captain Fantastic

1

u/CardiologistOk4920 9h ago

Idk about common but Disney definitely has the money for it

2

u/CTeam19 Captain America 7h ago

Got to bust out all the team building/COPE games:

  • Blind Square: Blindfolded participants work together to turn a 50-foot rope into a perfect square or triangle using verbal communication.

  • Human Knot: Participants stand in a circle, grab hands with two different people across from each other, and work to untangle the knot without letting go.

  • Helium Stick: A group rests a long, lightweight rod (the "helium stick") horizontally on their index fingers, lowering it to the ground together—which paradoxically causes it to rise if anyone loses touch.

  • etc

Well, if Rogue's origin is true to the comics then the X-Men are supposed to start off hating her.

-9

u/Educational_Zone3156 8h ago

You also need chemistry tests with characters that are opposed to you...

Corenswet and Hoult also did one beforehand

4

u/Temporary-Stay-8436 8h ago

That makes sense though given the nature of their interactions.

0

u/Mind_Enigma 6h ago

People downvoting you probably think movie chemistry only means "but do they look like they want to have sex"

28

u/TheeHeadAche Henry Pym 9h ago edited 9h ago

Article doesn’t mention chemistry tests. Just that they first all got together at D23. Not sure where OP pulled the no tests thing from. Feels like a assumption without much evidence

-21

u/Educational_Zone3156 9h ago

Can you explain to me how one is to do a chemistry test when theyve all never met each other before?

Did they somehow magically interact in their dreams before they got cast?

23

u/TheeHeadAche Henry Pym 9h ago

She could have met some individually but not the entire cast at once.

-4

u/Educational_Zone3156 9h ago

Article literally says that she didn't know who was who beforehand. Theres even an article online that says sadie was deliberately kept out of the loop of the cyclops casting.

17

u/Adamsoski 7h ago

She says

"That was the first time we all got together. It was kind of cool, right? Because everything's kind of secret — it's like, who's who?

To me that last part implies that she's talking about who is playing who, not that she doesn't literally know who the actors are. It is very common for big properties like this for it to be kept secret who other people are playing, even if you know who they are. It is totally possible given that quote that she has met some of the other actors in person before, just not all of them at once, and she didn't know who they were playing.

9

u/TheeHeadAche Henry Pym 6h ago

Yeah, AITA for saying it’s unreasonable to extrapolate there were no chemistry tests from this single line?

9

u/TheeHeadAche Henry Pym 9h ago

That still doesn’t mean chemistry test weren’t done. They can give actors scripts to rehearse without it being the characters they play to see how they do.

Like an audition isn’t just a head shot. Actor submit material and go in and interact with cast and crew to see how they fit.

-10

u/Educational_Zone3156 9h ago

You literally need to meet someone in person to do chemistry tests. That was literally her first time meeting them

7

u/CriticalCold 7h ago

They do chemistry tests over zoom or whatever all the time

7

u/TheeHeadAche Henry Pym 9h ago

And there is nothing saying chemistry tests weren’t done with few key actors

-1

u/Educational_Zone3156 8h ago

She literally didnt know who was who according to the article. She didnt know anyone beforehand the d23 announcement.

Even sadie sink was kept separate from the casting process. Deliberately!

https://deadline.com/2026/08/sadie-sink-x-men-filming-update-cyclops-casting-1237029050/

3

u/TheeHeadAche Henry Pym 8h ago

Right. Does the article say she didn’t have a chemsitry test with any other actors?

The article just states she hadn’t met them all until D23. Not that she hadn’t met some

That missing L completely changed your meaning

545

u/Sirmalta 12h ago

I feel like Disney hasn't bothered with chemistry tests since tom Holland.

They're pretty over the stuff that made their movies good.

Though on the one hand at least they're casting new actors and not Hollywood a listers for the x men. On the other hand they basically grabbed all the current hottest indie film actors of the year, likely with no real consideration of their fit or, obviously, chemistry.

Thankfully I think they're all solid enough to pull off whatever they need to for these roles.

221

u/confusing_roundabout 12h ago

Yeah the cast chemistry is one of the things that make the movies work. Really hope this doesn't backfire on them.

My big complaint about F4 is that I didn't feel the chemistry between the main 4.

15

u/ColdDesertEagle 4h ago

Just realized I haven't given Johnny Storm a second thought at all, when as a kid he was one of the coolest characters.

I guess they kinda stripped him of everything that would make him appealing and interesting

75

u/Vashek19 7h ago

I was surprised how little chemistry Kirby and Pascal had on screen, because they seemed to have a ton of chemistry during their press interviews prior to the release.

Johnny Storm was just a terrible casting choice.

33

u/FlowerRoomLord 7h ago

Yeah Reed and Sue are arguably the two where you need to do a chemistry test. And Pascal got plucked up at the height of Mandalorian fame and I think he'd been cast in TLOU as well before F4. Still don't care for him but his one scene with Doom seems like the Russos sre shaking something out of him.

17

u/no_es_buen0 5h ago

You don't care for him? Bold. Hot take lmao

10

u/FlowerRoomLord 5h ago

I can't tell if you're being sarcastic or not but I wasn't feeling his casting and the movie didn't really do much to win me over. The one I ended up coming away liking was Quinn's Johnny and I'm usually not a fan of Johnny.

-4

u/Mustang-_- 4h ago

That little moment of Pascal screaming is just meeh. I think he is a terrible actor, there's no balance, a caricature either way: the extreme bland average joe, or just scream like a lunatic and make faces (his acting in Wonder Woman 2 is egregiously bad). That little moment between him and Dr Downey, looks like another one of those moments of overacting

-37

u/Mustang-_- 9h ago

F4 was a miscast disaster, only Vanessa Kirby performed a decent job in this movie alongside the CGi cartoons (Galactus and the Surfer)

8

u/confusing_roundabout 9h ago

Yeah I thought Joseph Quinn was bad. Pedro Pascal acted well but he wasn't Reed Richards.

4

u/Mustang-_- 8h ago

Torch was arguably the weakest of the bunch, because he actually had an arc and screen time, but it fluked, really mediocre acting with zero charisma (a character that is supposed to be a charming playboy). Pascal as Pascal, the most average joe imaginable. The Thing without the mannerisms and accent, sounded depressed the whole movie. It was a disaster, MCU F4 is a mediocre movie at best

8

u/Deathbysnusnu17 8h ago

Not to take away from your point. But the director and actor both publicly stated changing Johnny Storms character to get away from the playboy characteristics was intentional.

8

u/Mustang-_- 7h ago

You can still be charming without the playboy gimmick. Dude was just a piece of nothingness. When Chris Evans played the character, at least he had the good looks and the cheerful attitude, he tried

1

u/Deathbysnusnu17 7h ago

Well, he was charming. It was more of a brotherly way. He was more family focused. Does it hit the same to audiences? I don't think so.

2

u/HermesMora 6h ago

Yeah everyone acts like it was the first accurate F4 movie or something when nah it's still super inaccurate it just isn't as bad as the other ones in that regard. I mean, they made Galactus in to a cartoonish evil villain and retconned Franklin's powers for no reason

1

u/Mustang-_- 4h ago

Just another example of fanboys deluding themselves. They want a decent Fantastic 4 movie so badly, ends up overly praising garbage. C'mon, Pascal with that ridiculous mustache, acting like the most bland average joe in existence, barely resembles a human being (it was like he and the dude who played The Thing were on auto-pilot), and this is supposed to be a good Fantastic 4 movie? Stop it, this MCU movie is just as mediocre as the previous Fox movies. Not only Galactus is cartoonish evil, don't forget the Scooby-Doo moment in the city (at least the CGi model itself and the voice, they are good)

2

u/bluexy Death 3h ago

yup the process has been corporatized because the money people realized the creative efforts didnt matter beyond whether theyd follow money guy orders.

2

u/didtheyhavesextho 8h ago

It does make you wonder if it’s because all the discourse you hear about the main Avengers cast these days. While they may have had chemistry early on, it can grow resentment down the line as well. So why bother, just try to build it over time instead.

-22

u/monkeytargetto 10h ago

"Likely with no real consideration of their fit or chemistry"

So you think they're just winging it for a such a big IP?

33

u/Leather_Box9494 10h ago

Surely you can’t think they’re not after we have so many examples recently of Disney winging it

22

u/Parenteau-Control 10h ago

Like they did with Star Wars?

-14

u/monkeytargetto 10h ago

What did Marvel do with Star Wars?

4

u/Poku115 8h ago

??? Yes thats what they've been doing from iron man through endgame, their own claims are that they only started planning the multiversal saga, the infinity one was winging it

6

u/MrMustardMix 9h ago

Well they were doing that with Khang and now Doomsday so that's possible for anything at this point.

1

u/Sirmalta 6h ago

No I think they're playing it extremely safe and focusing on the "we need a new generation of fans".

-27

u/Mustang-_- 9h ago

Talking about Holland, it's ironic because you would imagine Holland and Zendaya are supposed to have chemistry, as a real couple (similar to Garfield and Emma Stone in their respective Spider-Man movies), but goddamn they are so awful lol especially Zendaya, she simply can't act. Holland is a decent actor and he is clearly trying, but Zendaya is a zombie, their romance is not believable at all. And here we are, this X-Men reboot relies a lot on Jean and Cyclops to have good chemistry, if not, it will be another example of these sauceless characters being just meeh for the hundredth time

0

u/fat-wizard 9h ago edited 9h ago

Tom and Jon had better chemistry in the new movie than Tom and Zendaya. This isn’t a shot at Zendaya in the movie, I think she and Tom were good, but the best scenes were Spidey and Frank.

-2

u/Drew602 5h ago

Chemistry test? these actors are barely going to be in the same room while they give their performances lmao

→ More replies (8)

231

u/enjoiYosi 12h ago

They rarely even film with other actors. Have you heard some of the interviews about Avengers Doomsday? They don’t even know who they are interacting with on screen, because they film each actor separately and piece it all together with CGI and digital editing.

178

u/Toadforpresident 11h ago

You can tell watching the trailer. The whole thing had this eerie sort of unreal feel to it. I don't really mean that as a compliment.

Bit of a sad way to make movies imo.

63

u/RoninRonanAgamotto Shazam 10h ago

It's one of my biggest issues with MCU, I don't align with their movie making process, especially how they choose to do the shooting process.

If MCU had to learn anything from Eternals, it was the practical on-location shooting. Despite how the movie was received, it was gorgeous and beautiful to look at, it's one takeaway they should've inferred from that movie.

The blending of CGI with the natural location footage, imo, always gives the best possible result.

7

u/MANJAKANIazure 9h ago

"The blending of CGI with the natural location footage, imo, always gives the best possible result."

Is it ? Not a professional but I remember the tropical arena from the hunger games and some shots in the jungle felt good but around the cornopecia the blending of real-shot beach with the CGI was nightmarish

11

u/AirotheWavedancer 6h ago

To be fair, the Hunger Games movies were crunched like crazy so they could come out every 12 months

16

u/RecommendationFew466 The Riddler 8h ago

Well this isn’t true, they did film with other people. The actors themselves have talked about the experience of meeting the othere on set and even said there was a day like 30 people were on set with one another. Only reason Alan Cumming did his scenes alone was because of his schedule and cumberbatch did the same with IW. Thats just the nature of shooting massive ensemble pieces like this. I don’t quite understand why people have taken this to mean every Marvel Studios film is filmed like this.

-5

u/Toadforpresident 8h ago

That's fair, I haven't really watched any of the interviews the OP is referring to.

I was more responding from my own sense of watching these movies and nothing feeling real. Like I'm always aware I'm just watching a bunch of people on a soundstage where 90% of what's happening was done in post.

But that's a separate thing from actors performing alone. So fair play

47

u/enjoiYosi 11h ago

It’s awful

14

u/CappnMidgetSlappr 7h ago

Flashbacks to Ian McKellen breaking down on the set of The Hobbit.

29

u/TheGhostInThe___ 10h ago

It’s worse than that clip of Ian McKellen crying on the set of The Hobbit imo.

17

u/HailToTheKingslayer 10h ago

I can see why he still does theatre

8

u/jez124 9h ago

Eh....thats kind of worse imo since you know what you are getting with these MCU and other scale blockbuster movies. Id assume going from the LOTR to Hobbit movies was a bit different.

0

u/TheGhostInThe___ 9h ago

It was one scene and not the whole movie. That’s all the MCU Movies are.

5

u/CelestianSnackresant 7h ago

The hobbit was pretty close to an MCU production. TONS of green screen. It was a very different set than LotR, despite so many of the same creatives. Then there was the massive nationwide unionbusting thing...

2

u/TheGhostInThe___ 7h ago

Yes but all the cast was still there.

2

u/mjac1090 4h ago

So the interviews with cast members talking about there being 30 different people on set at once were them lying?

-2

u/Robofink 8h ago

The Marvel actors are more like hype men these days. They do six months of shooting alone on a green screen and another year for the press tour all for a sweet A-lister salary. A new beach house doesn’t pay for itself.

4

u/FlowerRoomLord 7h ago

Ian walking onto the Doomsday set like ah shit here we go again

7

u/IWouldLikeAName 10h ago

It was completely obvious with the latest captain America movie they also do multiple reshoots in that way and it's also obvious

-1

u/Ding_Bingus 10h ago

Whoever is calling shots on the direction of mcu needs to go and they need to use all the story transition as a chance to shake up the approach and style of filmmaking too. Movies by committee suck

5

u/Local_Anything191 10h ago

Clueless Redditors lol. You guys are saying this as Doomsday is all but locked in to be the highest grossing movie of all time. Domestic opening is already going to be minimum 400 million which has literally never happened before

7

u/No_Macaroon_5928 9h ago

It sure is gonna make money no doubt about that but the quality is the one most are talking about here lol.

1

u/Local_Anything191 8h ago

You can just search online for leaks. It’s testing internally from early reviews to be one of the best MCU movies to date. It’s also written by someone with a great track record - and writing is what dictates whether a movie has the possibility of being good or not.

-1

u/BagZCubed 7h ago

I've heard the opposite and that they had difficulties trying to cobble together an edit for the movie.

Every Marvel movie has to be the best since Winter Soldier after all.

1

u/Local_Anything191 7h ago

Link me where it says that. I have a feeling I know exactly what you’re talking about and I’m gonna laugh if I’m right

0

u/BagZCubed 7h ago

It's only a rumor posted on Twitter. It was the same as your "internal testing." It was called "a humorless, harrowing blood bath," or something.

0

u/Local_Anything191 6h ago

That’s the EXACT one I was talking about ahaha. It was first posted by a parody mcu account with like 200 followers. It’s 100% confirmed fake

Mine is from an actual confirmed source: https://variety.com/2026/film/features/disney-ceo-josh-damaro-star-wars-marvel-ai-1236671533/

Gotta love Redditors. This place is a joke. You’re a top 1% commenter too, parroting proven fake “leaks”. Lord have mercy

Making money does not mean it's going to be a good movie.

The MCU sloppers love their slop.

2

u/BagZCubed 7h ago

True. A lot of people like to think money = quality, then have a movie that has a bad story and terrible visuals that makes 1 billion+.

2

u/GKJ6743 5h ago

Durp slop durp

-5

u/Local_Anything191 8h ago

You’re talking to a guy that hasn’t seen even half of the MCU. If it’s successful and makes them money, they’ll continue to do it, not sure why your small brain has trouble grasping that idea.

MCU has made over 35 billion dollars and is the leading movie franchise. The second leading movie franchise has made less than a third of that. And you ask why the MCU does what it does? Gee I wonder

2

u/Toadforpresident 8h ago

I have no doubt it's gonna make a boatload of money. That's not relevant at all really to what we're talking about.

3

u/Local_Anything191 8h ago

It’s completely relevant though. You’re asking why they do X thing. They do X thing because it’s very successful. Businesses like success because success = money.

2

u/Toadforpresident 8h ago

Where did I ask why it was successful? I think you need to reread my original comment.

I was just sharing my own feelings on it which is not impacted by how much money the movie makes.

3

u/Local_Anything191 8h ago

I replied to a guy who said they need to fire the guy who is calling the shots of the MCU. Please use your brain

1

u/Toadforpresident 8h ago

Ah I see, my bad.

0

u/Mustang-_- 9h ago

This can well be the second coming of Batman v Superman, lol the movie made big money in the first weekend, but then... the word of mouth spread. Dune 3 will probably be the greatest benefactor if Doomsday is indeed as bad as it looks

2

u/Local_Anything191 8h ago

There’s not really a point in me replying to you. I can tell you’re not keeping up to date with any news

2

u/Mustang-_- 7h ago

This is not about "keeping up with the news", just trying to predict the outcome of this movie besides the first weekend. Regardless of the initial numbers, I'm willing to bet the word of mouth will be negative (and that will affect the final box office)

1

u/DarthBrooksFan 10h ago

Isn't that kinda how we got the Supergirl movie? Not enough micromanaging?

-5

u/Mustang-_- 9h ago

Doomsday is looking terrible, no reason to sugarcoat. Even if grandpa Downey Jr is not an imposing figure to play Dr. Doom (I jokingly call him Dr. Midget), at least his costume looks pretty good. But again, a Dr. Doom cosplayer in a grayish CGi mess, Thor and the Walmart Cashiers, etc.. I am curious to watch Secret Wars tho, but Doomsday not so much

14

u/SwampApeDraft 11h ago

We’re a long way from that circling shot of the team from the first Avengers

27

u/PerfectZeong 11h ago

Yeah actors want to act off of other actors. It improves their performance.

3

u/Cipherpunkblue 9h ago

And the scripts are constantly being rewritten, so at times it is uncertain if anyone knows for sure.

9

u/SlimmyShammy 10h ago

Obviously I wasn’t there so I can’t say for certain lol but I feel like people are mostly saying this off comments from Alan Cumming who had a weird schedule to shoot around. Feige’s mentioned before that there’s scenes with over 30 actors all in the same room, I don’t think anyone’s mentioned having to shoot on their own besides Cumming.

I’m pretty sure something similar happened with Cumberbatch shooting Infinity War/Endgame

-3

u/enjoiYosi 10h ago

I mean, the Hobbit had the same issue, it’s pretty standard these days

6

u/SlimmyShammy 10h ago

I remember Lee and McKellen shot separately, but that was also like a decade ago.

I think some people assume literally every actor shot stuff separately and is getting drag and dropped into scenes lol. There’s plenty of stuff to criticise the Russos on but I think people online also just make stuff up and run with it

0

u/enjoiYosi 10h ago

They also did this with the Rock and Vin Diesel. It’s a normal trick but overdone with Marvel

-5

u/enjoiYosi 10h ago

The shots look artificial from the trailer. There is no way the actors actually worked together on set

5

u/SlimmyShammy 10h ago

So you think every single actor shot everything separately?

0

u/enjoiYosi 9h ago

No, I don’t think every actor. But they probably didn’t film more than 3 or 4 people together in a scene

0

u/ToughAdventurous8209 3h ago

You are just making shit up

1

u/enjoiYosi 2h ago

Watch behind the scenes footage

4

u/marccass 11h ago

I think possibly with something like Doomsday and how enormous that cast is, for some scenes it's probably inevitable. I imagine you're referring to the comments made by Alan Cumming and Florence Pugh filming an action scene with different stunt people separately and then that being spliced together later. I think with action scenes, which in Nightcrawler's case will be mostly CGI anyway—it's totally fine. I'm confident for actual scenes where they need to dialogue together, they will be in the same room and filmed in the traditional way, just as Endgame and Infinity War were.

2

u/MinerDoesStuff 2h ago

That may be the case with doomsday but I don’t think that’s Jake Schreier’s style. They’re also bringing the production designer from Loki and Fantastic Four in so I don’t think it’ll be as much of an over reliance on digital VFX

3

u/enjoiYosi 1h ago

Loki didn’t even have a real set… it was all green screen in a box

1

u/MinerDoesStuff 31m ago

This a joke?

0

u/rednaxthecreature 34m ago

I guess they should actually go to space or the tree of life to film?

1

u/enjoiYosi 7m ago

Or build a set? Marvel films in a giant green screen studio, watch behind the scenes footage. There is no set

3

u/Embarrassed_Piano_62 11h ago

Depends on the project, the same didn´t happen with Thunderbolts

Too late, I'm enrolling Inde in Ochem. Woe upon her!

17

u/Kongcha 9h ago

Sadie Sink already mentioned she had chemistry tests with some of the cast

10

u/AcronymTheSlayer 7h ago

Probably with kit who is playing cyclops

25

u/Sevennationsmarmy 12h ago

Odd, if there's a chem test then I would think X-Men is a high necessity project to prioritize it.

That said she's in the "so hot in a likable way" category so maybe they just assume she'll work with anyone. Or maybe they don't care until they have to cast a Gambit.

11

u/TheReallyUncoolDude Venom 11h ago

I think for rogue it makes sense since she was originally apart of magnetos brotherhood. She should feel like the odd one out for this first film. It's the main X-Men that desperately need the chemistry. Jean and Scott need to be good together, storm and Scotts mutual respect and competitiveness against each other as leaders should be portrayed well. Angel and Scott need to be prickly and banter quite a bit, angel and beast need to be bros and etc. hopefully even without a chemistry test they manage to pull it off

3

u/Plus_Claim_8938 7h ago

They’re not going to let Storm be a co-leader bro. She’s getting shipped off to Wakanda before she can say a full sentence.

17

u/These_Wish_5101 11h ago

3

u/ContentAssumption204 4h ago

Even the 2000s FF cast did a chemistry test.

23

u/Black_hoursCuh1991 10h ago

And that’s the problem. Why are they cutting corners now when back in the days they had test screenings and chemistry tests? That’s why so many films feel so bland and inorganic nowadays.

Superman (2025) and Lanterns both had chemistry tests. Specifically between Clark and Lois actors, and Hal and John actors. IIRC The Batman (2022) also did the same with Bruce and Selina. The results speak for themselves too. So at the very least, DC is bringing it back.

u/RogueKnight77 6h ago

The results were good, as both of those dynamics are some of the best parts of those respective movies

Old movies had better texture, a feeling that you were coming in on a dynamic that already existed.

Nowadays it becomes very apparent, with a shallow depth of field, poor writing that you are watching an entertainment product. It’s much harder to believe the world you’re entering

u/AtCarnage 8h ago

Marvel barely shoots anything with where the actors are in the same room anyway. It's basically a voice acting gig.

7

u/Doggleganger 5h ago

Voice acting with ping pong balls taped to your head.

I concur. Do they not know that the pandemic is over and the need to social distance is not required?

Whoa, what’s with the downvotes?

u/Char-els037 6h ago

Me when I concur with someone else's drivel

2

u/Black_hoursCuh1991 5h ago

Not sure why you call it “nonsense” when there’s nothing “drivel” about wanting better quality entertainment. Weird.

Pretty wild to not do a chemistry test for the team that’s pretty well know for how dynamic the teams chemistry is.

1

u/Black_hoursCuh1991 25m ago

Exactly. Not only that, but during press runs when they are doing marketing tours. It may not mean much to some, but a bunch of casuals, at times, make their decision to watch a film based off those cast interviews that be going viral on YouTube.

1

u/Dazzling-Slide8288 7h ago

Because they set deadlines years in advance. Disney needed something to show at their marketing presentation. That’s why they rushed it.

0

u/PineapplePhil 6h ago

Something to James Gunn’s credit with regard to the new Superman movie, I suppose.

10

u/polakbob 8h ago

No need for on-screen chemistry when they're going to film you individually on green screens for everything.

8

u/Spyd3rPunk 7h ago

Was there a chemistry test when actors were being chosen for the Avengers?

6

u/GKJ6743 5h ago

Probably not. People just like to complain when someone at marvel sneezes

5

u/DoneWithIt0101 4h ago

I'm not sure about the Avengers, but I think Holland was tested with Evans and RDJ.

6

u/m0rbius 9h ago

It seems like they just cast people they thought would be a good fit and are popular now. It could go south. I feel they should have at least done screen tests between Sink and Conner.

1

u/Funkyneat 6h ago

Marvel has been doing that for almost 20 years. They are constantly picking actors who were on a popular, well received tv series

4

u/LaunchpadMcFly 2h ago

You can tell if you saw the D23 footage. They all looked so awkward around one another.

4

u/Aldo-D-D-Wilson 11h ago

no chemistry test? Dang, failed on 101 already.

2

u/AcronymTheSlayer 7h ago

I really hope Sadie and Kit have chemistry cause I need Jean and cyclops to click.

2

u/Funkyneat 6h ago

Oh the internet hate train is starting on this movie already?

3

u/Historical-Record227 11h ago

Hopefully means we're doing the villain to hero arc with her

1

u/coppernaut1080 6h ago

Would make sense for them not to for me. The X-Men team mostly didn't know each other as it was being formed so maybe this helps keep that more genuine. Or maybe not. Just an opinion.

1

u/dj_ian 5h ago

Prob cuz Rogue is a villain in this movie.

1

u/SamuelLucan 1h ago

As long as she has great chemistry with Gambit.

1

u/fringyrasa 32m ago

Chemistry tests are usually for the leads, which Rogue would not be considered a lead in this. But MCU specifically rarely does chemistry tests. The director got this job for working very well with the team dynamic in Thunderbolts, he should be able to do the same here.

1

u/RareObject8705 4h ago

No one needs a chemistry test with her

Considering Disney barely films these characters in the same room I’m not shocked, but this is the fucking X-Men. The chemistry of these characters is such an important part.

I only want Doomsday to fail (it won’t) because I truly want Disney/Marvel to break away from this method. Not to make this a Marvel vs DC thing but going from Lanterns to Vision Quest was a crazy whiplash because (amongst other things) there are so many scenes where I can feel Paul Bettany standing alone on a soundstage.

0

u/dsbwayne Jean Grey 11h ago

I can understand it. They’re a group of people being pulled together to work together for the first time. Let’s the bonds form

-1

u/AzulMage2020 7h ago

Well thats pretty obvious. They all look bored of each other at first glance.

-3

u/sabhall12 12h ago

I think that's fine, they will have time to do chemistry tests when they're together. All of these actors should be good enough to nail the interactions.

-1

u/RhodProton 6h ago

Flavor of the month casting.

Feige probably scrambling to get Austin Abrams casted in something as well

0

u/HermesMora 6h ago

I kind of like that for a first X-Men team tbr, they're meant to be disparate teens from troubled backgrounds who didn't know eachother beforehand. Let them get their chemistry over filming and continue it to the next movie.

-7

u/galacticwinnow 11h ago

Her character doesn't need chemistry test.

They are meant to be mostly lost and meeting Xavier in the movie.

They all can act and read the script.

That's all that is required.

Unless there is romance or familial bond, chemistry tests are useless for many parts in this movie.

-2

u/ritchieram 11h ago

She need to do chemistry test with the one that plays
Magneto

-3

u/Jolly_Echo_3814 11h ago

no chemistry tests are needed lol everyone is already hired. im pretty sure the point of a chemistry test is to hire the people who have the best chemistry.

-2

u/Far_Cat_9743 9h ago

I mean, they’ll be filming 95% of their scenes in front green screens, and most of the time by themselves or with their stunt double, on screen chemistry doesn’t matter much with these films tbh. The Marvel and DC blockbusters have become an assembly line process of casting, shooting scenes/stunts, fix everything with CGI, edit, release, cross fingers it’s profitable.

-4

u/heyguyz 3h ago

She does not look like rogue and I cant picture as rogue and even a.i. didnt make it work for me.

-4

u/tardisrider613 11h ago

Exactly what is meant by "chemistry test"? There is absolutely no way whatsoever during casting that people didn't discuss "Yeah, we think they'll be good together because. . . ."

4

u/Both_Cartoonist_611 She-Hulk 10h ago

Chemistry testing in casting involves getting the actors together to run test scenes before you actually cast anyone, to basically check the vibes when the actors are together. Some people really vibe and some people are really stiff together, depending on who you have paired up. It's a pretty important step in casting.

-5

u/CosmoWarriorZero1971 5h ago

Why is Rogue in the X-Men before Logan? We all know Sony screwed up the team continuity, but it looks as if Disney is skewing a bit

2

u/TouchAltruistic 4h ago

All we know is that roles have been cast.

1

u/KeeganTroye 5h ago

Because a lot of work has been created with Wolverine front and center and less with Rogue so it's a more interesting character to see on screen, imo

0

u/lord-of-shalott 5h ago

Disagree. Rogue works best as grayer character initially caught between X-Men and Brotherhood who is eventually welcomed and mentored by her comrades.

I know movies take a while to make but throwing everything at once is why marvel films have been suffering from bloat.

1

u/KeeganTroye 4h ago

It isn't everything, unless it has more characters than you would expect from an X-Men movie it is perfectly fine for Rogue to be present with a history as a greyish character.

We don't need backstories all the time.

-2

u/GeneralTurgeson 9h ago

Sophie Turner all over again

-3

u/No_Macaroon_5928 9h ago

Is this actually news? The only chemistry these people have are with the money that were thrown their way lol
