Physician Responded Could an axial MRI miss a cyst extending through the skull?

26F ~5’10 200lbs ish, neuro and rads are noot my specialty LOL

potentially insane question, but I had an MRI done that showed i had some benign lipomas, which are common, but I realized that one that was identified in my brain is also directly under a cyst I’ve had on my scalp for as long as I can remember. Is this a coincidence or should it be assessed? I assumed I had a pilar cyst but it’s been bothering me that it’s directly above where one of those lipomas are.

The MRI was done because I had some weird neurological episode that presented like a TIA or stroke but there was no abnormalities in my brain noted. Neurologist said it could have been stress.

I don’t want to sound like a hypochondriac, i am fine neurologically etc but I don’t know if I should bring this up to a doctor.

I'm not sure i understand the question. If you are concerned what you thought is a pilar cyst may infact not be a pilar cyst, then just see your pcp for an exam

I’m wondering if the cyst on my scalp and the cyst in my brain could be somehow connected bc they’re in the same spot, and if an axial view would have not shown that but a sagittal view might have

They most likely arent connected. The MRI would have slices so in theory it's possible to miss but I think brain MRI use thin slices, like just a few mm apart, making missing something like a transcranial cyst unlikely I'd think
