Interview/Job applications Timelines after reference checks
Hi there, after being put into a merit pool last month, I have progressed to another role’s interview early this month. 2 hrs after the interview they asked to do the reference checks. And the panel mentioned they want someone to start work with them urgently, so I assumed the process would be quicker. Now it has been one week after my reference checks were done, anxiously waiting everyday. How are your timelines like after the reference checks?

I am in NSW gov. I once interviewed for a role and references were requested the same afternoon. I thought it was a good sign but about two weeks later I got the talent pool email.
I interviewed recently for a role and 2 months later was told I was the preferred candidate. I was told I’d get a verbal offer after references and it’s been a week since references and I still haven’t heard anything. I do know they’re doing the service check too and waiting for that to come back. All that to say, I am patiently waiting knowing I’m not the only one on TAs books.

Waiting is hard, but at least they told u we’re the preferred candidate, it’s so close! Hope u can hear from them soon

Previously for me it took at least a month after reference checks for the final outcome (placed in the merit pool)

In the APS they often reference-check everyone who was interviewed and “need someone urgently” means months.

My first role was about 11 months from application to offer.
From reference checks to offer it was roughly 3-4 months.
For a different role it was about 4 weeks.
If it was sent immediately after interview it likely means they’re doing reference checks for everyone.
Don’t hold your breath, governments can move very slow.
