Is it crazy to enrol my baby at 2 daycares to test them out?

FTM here, baby is 12 months old. I start back at work in Jan and plan is to start baby 1 day per week in November to get us both used to the routine.

We had a hard time finding centres with availability but ended up finding one we liked with days that suited us.

Now I’ve had a call from a much nicer, closer centre and they can also give us a spot next year.

I’m thinking of sending bub to both centres, 1 day a week each for the rest of the year and then deciding which one to go with… Is this a good or bad idea? Other than financial (2 days per week when I’m not working) am I missing anything?

Thanks in advance for any advice!

Baby is not sleeping in bassinet

Hi All,

I am a new mum of a 2 weeks old. The baby would start getting cranky amd starts crying when we put him in bassinet.

So I was looking for alternatives and came across the electric baby swing.

Any adivse on these type of swings for new born. Are they safe ? Are they efficient?

Please suggest alternatives and options. Thank you.

Is there anything more awkward then kids birthday parties at play centers

You get invited but you really don't know anyone

Your kid just walks around aimlessly and plays at the play center by themselves and you shuffle along

You make awkward small talk but most parents just are looking at their kid and in their own cliques

Half the time no one knows where everyone is in this bubble pit of screams and swear

But there is kids cake so it got it going for it

AU Is this normal

My partner hasn't visited a single daycare or preschool with me. He has loads of opinions but for the most part thinks "she'll be fine". Hes very keen to do pickups but hasnt once even driven past with me just to see where they are. Is this normal? Is one parent responsible for daycare/preschool management while the other does the glamorous afternoon pickup?

Just adding im feeling super pissed off because hes so opinionated about them (particularly if something bad happens) but hasnt once stepped inside to see for himself!!!! All the responsibility is sitting on my shoulders to make the right decision and he just tells me "I trust you!"

Advice Wanted Which daycare would you choose?

There are two daycares the same distance to us that we’re considering for our 15 month old. I’ve toured both and they both seem comparable in terms of cleanliness, activities, cost and staff turnover.

The only difference (from what I can tell by the short tours) is sizing.

Option A is a typical 72 person centre and he would be in an infants room of 8 with 2 educators and then from 2 years old a toddler room of 10 with 2 educators.

Option B has 20 kids in the whole centre but they only have 2 rooms - 1-3 and 3-5 year olds (they don’t accommodate babies under 1). He would be with up to 14 kids on some days with 3 educators (1:4 for the 4 x one year old’s and 2 for the 10 x two year old’s). From what I can tell they occasionally break off and do separate activities but for a large part the 1 and 2 year old’s are mostly together.

I was originally leaning towards option B especially as we had a friend that used to send their kids there and they said they were rarely ever sick due to how small it was… but would that class size put you off?

AU-NSW Orientation daycare

What should I expect and look out for during orientation?

Toddler is almost 3 and has never been to daycare. She will be in 2.5 to 3.5 room. But they do mix with other ages during play times outside and family groupings.

What are some genuinely unsafe/red flag things? My mum heart is feeling very vulnerable :(

Side note our nearby preschool is very small and has barely any outdoor space so we choose long daycare centre.

6 week US showed 'slow' heart rate

Hi everyone,

TL/DR pregnancy with 5AA euploid embryo was going well, early scan showed a slow heart rate.

For background context, I had a TFMR at 15 weeks last June (IUI) and a miscarriage in March from an untested embryo. That pregnancy started with low HCG, slightly slow heart beat and smaller than expected at 6 weeks, heart stopped by 7 weeks.

I had another transfer in September, this time with a PGT-A tested embryo. Everything was tracking really well:11dpt HCG 229, 13dpt hcg 815, 18dpt HCG 3505, 20dpt HCG 5187. Due to my pass losses, I requested early scans for assurance.

I had a scan at 6 weeks 1 day, embryo was measuring 6 weeks. We could see the heart flickering but the sonographer couldn't pick it up on the m-mode. They said it was fine, it was just too early. When speaking with the nurse through my clinic, they too said everything was fine but asked me to move my next scan sooner. I could sense something was wrong but trusted the nurses. I had an antenatal appointment booked with my GP who had a copy of the report. It said "slow heart rate, difficult to analyse." My GP has basically told me to expect a miscarriage.

I've done a lot of research and know there is a chance everything could be fine, but I also have past experience and am realistic. My breasts have gradually lost the pain. I still have nausea, but not as much. I've experience some light cramping.

It's so frustrating. I don't understand why I keep experiencing loss. Why has a 5AA euploid embryo suddenly failed?

I'm in a SS relationship and we're both about to turn 38. We've probably spent over $60k on this journey, just to experience loss and bad news.

My scan is on Thursday which will be 9 days after the first. I haven't stopped thinking about this for days and I'm so heartbroken to be back here again.

How do you just keep going on?

Advice Wanted 17 days old Fuzzy after each feed and hard to get him to sleep

Hi All,

I am a dad of 17 days old. He last few days it's been really hard to get him to sleep after each feed. He wakes up every 1.t hours due to hunger, feeds 40 to 60ml. Most of the times he falls asleep while drinking the formula, but when we try to move him to the bassinet he wakes up and gets very hard after that to make him fall asleep. Last night I had to carry him in my arm for around 2 hours to rock him just to keep him calm. Is this expected? How to deal with this?

A friend of our suggested that we swaddle him, but he breaks out of the swaddle almost immediately.

AU-NSW SAHMs who ended up returning to work, what work are you doing?

hi mums,

If you ended up returning back to work, what work did you return to? and what work were you doing before becoming a SAHM?

I hear a lot about people quitting corporate to be a SAHM and never wanting to go back to corporate again, curious to know what work you ended up doing.

thanks!

24 weeks pregnant and done with work.

Need some advice on how to find more balance with work and rest. Fatigue has been really hitting me the past couple of weeks and its so hard to focus at work. My commute to work is almost an hour each way and full time office based. My hours in the office are long (more than 8 hours). When i do work from home i find it very hard to focus as well and all i want to do is lay down.

Im thinking maybe i go into some sort of part time working arrangement but i need the full weekly income.

Im interested to know what others have done in their situation. I go on maternity leave in December so not long to go. But im not sure i can keep giving it 100% until then...

Melbourne mums - Can someone please help me understand 3yo kindy vs daycare?

Hi, I am moving to Melbourne and I’m so confused about how daycare works! My son is almost 3 and I’ve called a few centres that say they don’t have LDC positions, but they do have 3yo kindy positions, but with kindy it seems the hours are the same?

Can someone please break it down for me like I’m a fool… I’ve been googling and I just don’t get it. Thanks!

Advice Wanted My MIL makes breastfeeding feel like homework sometimes

My MIL has been giving me lots of breastfeeding advice lately, and I know she means well. She's raised her own kids and I genuinely appreciate her wanting to help. But the thing is, if I don't follow something she suggests, she'll bring it up again and again.

I feel like I'm doing homework and she's checking whether I've completed it lol.

I know she's coming from a good place, which somehow makes it harder to say anything. I just wish I could figure things out with my baby without feeling like I'm constantly being assessed.

Advice Wanted Newborn dressing tips for summer

Hi all, my second bub is scheduled to be evicted from the womb just before Christmas 😅 I was wondering if I could get any tips/advice on how to dress a newborn baby during summer? Do I put bub in a long-sleeve onesie as they still can’t regulate their temperature?

My eldest is a winter baby and I have no idea how to dress a newborn during the heat!

AU-NSW Educator pinching

My 20 month old child has been attending daycare for 9 months.

She came home yesterday, and pinched my hand and said “pinch” “(insert educators name)”. She repeated this a few times over the evening. She didn’t seem upset and thought it was funny.

I’ve never taught her this.

Obviously my first thought is educator is pinching her.

Any advice as to next steps? (If any)

AU-QLD Birthing choices

Hello! FTM mom here
I’ve been having a really rough pregnancy so far and have been classed as high-risk due to having a short cervix and needing a cerclage done, plus having not the best experience with the Drs at the hospital (public) - all I can think about is how I want to give birth.

For context, my cerclage went great and things are now looking good. But over the last few weeks since getting it done, I’ve had not the best communication from the Drs and wasn’t told that the stitch done to move my bladder out of the way would eventually come out and dissolve. That happened on Friday night and I panicked thinking it was my cerclage stitch and presented myself to PAC only to be admitted over night and not much was done to check on me. A Dr came by the next day and said that this was normal based on my post-op notes, but that no one was available to do an ultrasound or actually check me to make sure things were fine (the presenting Dr at PAC did a subpar job and ended up just clocking out without sharing any updates before leaving).
ANYWAY, I get called in this morning to get an ultrasound to check on my stitches and cervix. Was asked to wait for the Dr at MFM to talk to me about next steps, only to then be asked to check into PAC and see the Drs there instead. This turned into a 4 hour wait, with multiple nurses talking to me about potential staying over night again, preterm labor, etc etc. Finally saw a Dr who checked me over and said everything was fine and apologised for the fuck around and lack of communication

Initially I was set on requesting an elective c-section so that I get to have peace of mind knowing that this is the one thing I have control over (somewhat) but now with the lack of communication and clarity by the Drs and hearing lots of things from nurses/midwives, the thought of having to go through surgery to give birth now scares me.
But so does giving birth naturally and tearing and then needing stitches etc and I just don’t know what I want to do

Advice Wanted I feel like a walking zombie

My baby is almost 6 months old and I’ve been exclusively pumping from day 1 due to latching issues.
Between pumping, feeding, naps and play there is no time left for anything else.
Getting out of the house with him (for anything longer than a 20 mins walk) feels like an impossible task when trying to time it up between all of the above.
On top of all this, his naps have consistently been 20-40 mins for the last few months, he just can’t seem to connect sleep cycles.
If anyone else has been in a similar situation, how did you do it? Are there any tricks I’ve missed?
I just feel like my days are on repeat and getting out to do a grocery shop when my husband clocks off work is the highlight of my week.
TIA - a very dejected first time mum

AU-NSW Anyone have experience with Garrigarang early childcare centre in Ramsgate/Kogarah?

We’ve been offered a place for our 2.5 year old but as we only recently moved to the area I don’t know any other parents who have sent their child there and I’m nervous as it’s our first daycare experience . Would love to hear about anyone’s experience or if they have heard anything!

where to begin with IVF?

hi all, hoping this post is appropriate in this group-

34F with an AMH test that has dropped from 4.8pmol/L in March this year to 3.1pmol in October. Have been told I need to go see someone and get ball rolling soon for egg freezing, however where do I begin? How do I know what clinic I should be going to and if there are bad ones?

It’s all been a bit of shock (in March and then again when it seemed to have dropped again and by what I think is heaps) and I don’t know anyone personally who’s done egg freezing or the likes.
Obviously everyone has different experiences and all that but hoping I can maybe get some helpful advice please🤞🙏 thank you

I am based in Newcastle too
