Timestamp 0 is 1.1.1970 0:00 UTC, so depending on your timezone it might be 1969.

Iirc the issue we had then was that there were too few players to support it so they pulled 0.4 and restarted the game design so that peoples rotary phones could reliably play it. It was one of those amazing things at the wrong time... but we are slowly getting back to it. The original 0.4 was built off of tech from Roswell but consumers didnt have access yet. AFAIK the US Government has the 1.0 release by now though

this happens when date/time metadata is stripped from a file. this older version was most likely backed up on a dev machine and retro-actively uploaded. date removed to not appear as a recent release. my guess at least.

Reddit is all about making jokes for upvotes, sincere answers are not welcome.

Some files metadata got deleted or something which caused it to be reset to 0, which in the computer language is the first day of 1970

Funny to see the 0.34.2 is the win7 "last" version, the 0.39.4 works too with some small patches
And also the 0.15 works on DX10 GPUs, idk why devs said the 0.14 was the last one using DX10

It's been in early access for that long. Feels like only yesterday...

Devs set date to 0 to show it not being a newer version, wich for computers using Unix operating systems like Linux is automatically set to 1 jan 1970 or if ur in a different time zone like in italy, it will say 31st december 1969.

Imagine vet Beam players come back after 0.4 to see that 0.40 has been released which has one more zero but a whole diff game

Gosh, what a surprising thing to find. There's definitely no way that this has already been discussed here.

Over and over.

And over.

...

And over again.

...

...

And over some more.

Jeez... calm down. Im studying in programmable electronics (the original name is in french, sorry for the weird translation), and im not going out screaming at people for not knowing that.

You really need to step away from reddit for a bit...

Yeah bad morning but more of this is posted about 2-3 times a day, and dont worry your translation was fine

1

u/WaffleGlue 13h ago

yeah i know thats the oldest date for computers, im asking WHY that happened to the beta

1

u/Admirable_Office_190 7h ago

Just a bug, its the default time computers reset too because its the lowest date modern computers can display. Sorry for my outburst i was having a bad morning and it shouldn't have been directed at you.

Something to do with 32 bit and Y2K compliance

Why should he google it instead of coming here?

It's not important stuff so asking reddit is not a bad idea.

Also if for some weird reason he googled "why beamng 0.4 says it's released 1.1.1970" he might not get the answer he is looking for.

Also majority of people would just assume it's a bug without knowing why exactly 1970.
