Love how you can tell Chris Thile from his posture on a thumbnail. That dude shreds.

I'm seeing them for the first time in Jan, so excited!
(Caught Chris solo last winter, he was absolutely delightful)

“When I was a teenager. I’d been playing bluegrass and other styles of fiddle music for a little while, and learning by ear and playing fiddle tunes or going to a bluegrass jam inherently involves a lot of improvising. That that was always an aspect of that kind of music that really spoke to me and naturally led to me being more interested in jazz, which is very improvisational. When I first got into it, I think it was more of the virtuosic elements of being an improviser that really spoke to me. Then, as I got more into it, I started to realize that for the really heavy jazz improvisers, it's in a way less about their own solo and more about how the ensemble is playing and improvising together. That kind of chemistry is something I'm really interested in.”
Good chemistry now, indeed!

"Before times"?
Correct me if I'm wrong, but I think by this point that most of us had a sense that he was one of the obvious three candidates to be the fiddler in this band. He was already the talk of the town, no?
The Coltrane clip was when he first came onto the radar in mainstream bluegrass, at least as I can measure it from my perspective.

Thile is so talented, but he’s got the stage presence of some strange, weird little elf lord of the rings guy
