I want to get into blasphemous because the art looks really really cool and I heard the story is pretty dark and grim. I've previously played Bloodborne elden ring and all dark souls games and my only experience with 2d games is Dan the man and apple knight on mobile. Do you think I'll be able to get into it?

Three months ago, I started speedrunning this magnificent game—a game that has truly been a turning point in my life; I absolutely love all the lore it presents.

Can we agree that the Blasphemous 1 platinum is the most complicated shit ever?! I'm a trophy hunter but I always enjoy my first playthrough without a guide. I don't have any problem with the no flash trophy or the 3 hour time limit, those are fun. But man, the npc quests... I feel like I'm losing my mind. I don't even know where to start. Everything is missable.
Please, tell me that the Blasphemous 2 platinum trophy isn't that bad? I'm rethinking my life choices right now.

That lady from starting cutscene looks very simillar to Soccoro. Is that her? And is she a son of the miracle? Bc in ending A the pentinent one becomes son of the miracle and he is in canopy simmilar to this and there is a lot of people.

Finally finished the game and all achievements. I gotta say, if possible always get Requiem Aeternam on a good file where u also explore. I instead bashed my head against the wall till i beat all bosses with no upgrades. Im sure if i did some side work i couldve gone and get some prayers like tiento and some beads
Oh well, Took me 5 total playthrough to finish it.
Obv the second game is not gonna take longer than this surely.....

So before anybody says something like "git gud" or "skill issue" let me clear that up...YES, that is 100% part of it. But I will also say...I beat Divinity Orginal sin 2 on tactician mode... an achievemnt not even 1% of people can claim. Having challenging gameplay is absolutely what I love. When I heard that this game could provide it, I was excited..
But good lord.....this game is just so far beyond punishing... So far beyond frustrating.. As I originally stated, I know I am not the greatest. I started out next level bad in DOS2, but I knew it was learning curves and that eventually I would become good (which I did) as there was a progression where I could clearly identify different metrics in which I was starting to grasp.
This though....I know in my heart that this game is simply not for me, and that my problems in this game go beyond just not understanding it.. Making a mistake in this game= immediate death. I could make mistakes in DOS2 because there were so many ways to solve problems. The amoutnt of creative freedom is boarderline untouchable. Blasphemous is the polar opposite. This post is part venting, part accepting failure, and part knowing the difference between being bad at game, and a game being bad . What I mean by the last part, is that just because somebody is terrible at a game, it does not inherently mean the game is bad, or has poor design.
Before I fully address that I shall return to the first part. In DOS2, there were some very challenging fights that **felt** unfair. However, in reality, Larian gives the players so many tools it just requires a little bit of thinking outside the box. I could feel my brain opening up, and recognizing just how much creative freedom. That is precisely why I believe I was able to eventually excel. I do not consider myself naturally gifted at games. All games prior to my 15 year break, were games where it took me a while to understand the basics. Once I did that, I WAS very good. It did take forever... I was just never naturally good to the point where I could start off and immediately do well.
This game...for whatever reason...just doesnt jive with my brain. Previous games I had to learn maps and other things. It wasnt the basics of the game I had a problem with... In this, I cant figure out how to navigate basic enemies..It is difficult for me to explain, but the things that I am not very good at when it comes to this game, I dont believe can be improved on. No matter what I do, I simply take to much chip damage..I fall and die to many times..I am not great at the platforming..
Buttt....even when I get through difficult parts, it doesnt have the same feel as winning a grueling battle in DOS2. There were times I would literally be jumping for joy afterwards. With this...I feel...nothing..For people who are naturally good in this genre, or games in general, their brain is wired a certain way. I dont know what it is, but I simply make to many mistakes that cant be remedied no matter how much I practice. This isnt an FPS, RPG, or anything similar. I have legit put 8 hours into the game, and I am wel...very...very...far behind where most players normally are. There is just so many punishing things I wont be able to overcome. It frustrates me because it is actually up my alley. I love the whole old world catholic/dark feel to it. While slow, the combat is deliberate. This post isnt a critique of the game, but I could go on and on about the little things that just make this an unpleasant experience.
Now comes the accepting defeat part. No matter what anybody says, purchasing a game you have high hopes for, just to find out your terrible at, can sting. The kneejerk reaction is to speak about how the game is bad and poorly designed, and not the other way around. Quite frankly, I am probably a little to upset. Video games have legit helped me stay off hard drugs. This was a hobby I thought died with modern warfare 2. I believe there is almost some empowerment in admitting youre defeated though. This ties in to my last point..I know I suck at this game, but this game doesnt suck.
I think human beings have a propensity to dislike things they are not good at. This is especially true in the gaming sphere. Dont get me wrong, there are a lot of terrible games. But I really think that when talking about if a game is a good, people should try their hardest to not let the prejudices and biases that come with a let down. Will I try to push on? Sure. But when it takes hours to get past a spot that would take most people 1 or 2 tries, I am not expecting much. And seeing is how it just makes me angry, and I have literally zero...and I mean..ZERO fun..its probably best. Another factor is I spent money on it..As a matter of fact I would go as far to say this is the easily the least amount of fun I have ever had playing a game. Nothing even comes close.
I am not quite sure why I am making this post. Its mostly to vent. This has never happened to me before. For whatever reason my brain simply cant do what is required of these types of games. Like I quite literally dont have it in me to grasp certain concepts..Maybe I need to watch a play through? I dont know...Does anybody have any games that are a little bit less punishing, but still somewhat difficult metrovanias? Hell, I will take one with a fire story and fun combat. I dont really care. I may not be good at this one, but I do think I have what it takes if the game was slightly different. I know I should probably uninstall it because I am still slightly angry lol. Anyways, thanks in advance for any tips for getting better, or any ideas for new games. I will also take games similar to dos2/bg3, or just any good games in general.

It’s on sale for 7$ but I didn’t play the first one and honestly I am here for the gameplay experience not the story
And another reason I wanted to skip 1 is I heard its extremely difficult which I love dark souls like games but I am here to hack and have fun not to stress myself over an hour against a boss
And 2 apparently added a lot of helpful improvements

After countless attempts at the last three bosses (I died so many times against "Crisanta of the Wrapped Agony" that I stopped counting after the 17th time), I finally did it. I’ve reached the third ending!
GOD THAT FEELS SO DAMN GOOD MAN!!!

I filled out the entire base map, but not the dlc map. I’ve been staring at this thing for so long and the interactive maps. Please help!!!

I don’t really mind that you can lock yourself out of Ending C; finding the Incomplete Scapular to spare Esdras is not too difficult or obscure if you’re exploring thoroughly, and the game is relatively clear about the following steps you need to take prior to fighting Crisanta.
What I DO mind is being unable to unequip the Apodictic Heart of Mea Culpa; I get the narrative purpose, but the fact that it locks you out of completing the Library of the Negated Words puzzle specifically feels more like a design oversight than anything else.
I’m glad Blasphemous 2 allows you to unequip and/or refrain from using your true ending items so you can actually get everything in one playthrough (though I guess the first game does a better job encouraging multiple runs anyway with the Amanecidas and the way that Relics carrying over varies your progression).

So I was at a convent today as the penitent boy and met a playtester for the sequel
she told me that the codename/secret name for the testing phase of the game was
"Project Hat"
If I had to guess it's referencing the penitent ones big ass hat
Just a cool little fact

So I'm new to the Blasphemous series. That was actually super interested in the first one when they showed the first trailer years ago, but life got in the way with kids and everything else and I never ended up playing it. But this week the second one was on sale for 7 bucks and I could not pass it up. And what an excellent purchase it has been!
I'm currently sitting at 23 hours with what I think is close to half of the main game (I have the three people unlocked at the bottom of your pause screen but kome of the birds). But about 8-10 hours of that have been spent in The Third Sin DLC and what a fucking ride! Like I really can't say enough good about this DLC, bit I'd love to sing a bit of it's praises.
First of all the art direction is absolutely impeccable. Even my wife, who's not really a gamer, stopped what she was doing at several points to watch and remark, "wow, that looks like a painting." And she's completely right. From the massive library halls you navigate, to the corridors filled with spikes and broken stone pillars, and especially during the scenes where you're outside and the moon is behind you, this DLC has some of the best background art I've seen in a long time. There is one fight in particular on a dark bridge with the moon backlit behind you. It was a pretty tough fight for me, but the whole thing was extremely epic.
Then you have the sound design. The enemies all have dope sounding attacks and movement sounds that they make. The new weapons and spells all also sound really good. The voice acting for the new characters was really well done in my opinion. But the best part to me has been the background music. And this is really been true for the entire game, it's got some amazing background music. But they really knocked it out of the park with this DLC. like, they have legitimately been moments where I've stopped playing just to sit and listen.
I also think they nailed the enemy design in general. I have not really looked into the development of this dlc, but between the weapon you get and the enemy and the level design, it screams classic Castlevania to me. And I mean that as an absolute compliment. The enemies are all creepy, haunting, and best of all deadly. When you have dudes throwing their razor chakrams at you, well ghosts are shooting projectiles at you, and gargoyles are spitting fire, it's complete chaos and when you overcome it, you feel like a champion. The enemies here are deadly, but they did a great job of making the Penitent One more deadly as well.
The addition of Embrujo (again, Castlevania anyone?) is probably my favorite part of the DLC honestly. There's a few different reasons I like it so much. For one, just the attacks that it gives you look cool, feel cool, and do some work in the dlc. I haven't tried it out of the dlc, but I imagine it's still pretty good. Being able to aim your attacks in different directions (which I SUCK at sometimes) is really helpful when you're dealing with enemies that like to strike downwards and fly around a lot. The special attacks it comes with in the skill tree are all really cool as well. Spending your little whip-spike-chain around is fucking cool and always will be. But it also adds some of the toughest and coolest platforming sections I've seen in a game in a while. There are parts where you are having to use the skill of the embrujo to whip around, hit bells in midair to activate platforms, switch to Sarmiento to zip around with some mirrors, switch back to Embrujo AGAIN to hit another bell, and then whip around on grappling points that are only active for a few seconds. All while deadly spikes cover the floor beneath you. Let's just say my butt has been clenched a lot the last few days.
Seriously, I know I'm probably preaching to the choir here but this game has been an absolute blast. Sometimes I forget how much I like to do platformers until I play a good 2D platformer. And this is a great 2D platformer. It's like a weird mix of Metroid/Castlevania, Dead Cells, and Dark Souls. Maybe with a little Shadow Temple from Zelda thrown in. It's weird, kinda creepy, and super fucking addictive. Without too many spoilers, can anyone tell me if the other DLC holds up as well as this one?
