If you told anyone 2 years ago that Indiana would be #1 in the country and destroy Alabama in the Rose Bowl, they would have forcibly restrained you and had you committed to an insane asylum lmao
SEC Shorts are actually intentionally hilarious, though. Just brilliantly written and performed sketch comedy. Finebaum is going to be unintentionally hilarious.
Idc what the reason was I'm just glad it isn't fucking happening. The state of Alabama also owes the Birmingham Stallions for getting McCarron a job before that dipshit decided to run too.
He’s called it from the beginning. He’s said over and over that Bama and Bama fans weren’t taking Indiana seriously enough. The phone calls he gets are going to be hilarious
Saban called it this morning on Gameday. He said Indiana was legit and all the guys he golfs with thought Bama would just roll, which he thought was absurd. Turns out the GOAT CFB coach knows ball. Weird.
Dominated total yards, dominated yards per play, dominated conversion rate, and while we don't have the numbers yet we absolutely know they dominated epa/play and success rate. Total and absolute dismantling of the former evil empire.
Brother, even though tonight came at our expense, I’m glad for you that you got to see your team, against all odds, get here. How incredibly special. I’ll be rooting you Indiana to win it all. Godspeed.
I think this naturally happens as you grow old watching a team. You see their highs and lows, you believe in them when no one else does, so when they succeed it's amazing. Especially when you've seen so many lows, the greatness you are watching becomes more obvious, well before other fans.
I watch with my mom from her assisted living facility -- she couldn't go to Pasadena in '68 due to being pregnant with yours truly. Wouldn't have it any other way.
Was at the game. I had a moment when we scored the first TD. I didn't, but the waterworks wanted to flow. Just to see IU fans turn the Rose Bowl into a home game had me emotional.
I went out to the UCLA game last year at the Rose Bowl and it was much the same, yet it was just then when we got the idea that something special might be happening. Tonight, I could feel from thousands of miles away the same sort of aura building, followed by the radiance of the afterglow during the trophy presentation.
I watch the games with my 86 y/o mother in her assisted living apartment. She's retired from IU and taught/mentored many of the Hoosier greats (or pretty goods), including Trent Green and Antwaan Randle-El. She was unable to make the trip to Pasadena in '68 because yours truly was onboard and under construction. (The first of many things being my fault). While I certainly could have gone out for the game, I never even considered not watching with her.
The vibes here in Bloomington are just UNBELIEVABLE. There's no way to describe how happy and excited and, honestly, shocked everyone still is, week after week.
I haven't heard if there was a huge crowd today, but after the Ohio State win we went down there and it was so packed but also so wholesome. IU kids, middle aged folks like me, grandparents with their grandkids, college kids crowdsurfing on Kirkwood, people singing the fight song.
I've lived here for 20+ years and have seen some cool things, but this has been the coolest by far.
I can't even imagine. The basketball team was doing so well in the few years post-Knight that they still had to grease the light posts and the cops shoot tear gas into the crowd. Running clear to the opposite side of campus with eyes and sinuses on fire wasn't fun.
Ironically, the very first time I ever set foot in Bloomington was in 2002, the night they beat Duke. I was in town to look for an apartment before moving here a few months later. I saw the end of the game in my hotel room before heading out with my friend to find food.
I don't remember the details and obviously didn't know the city at that point, but I'm pretty sure I wound up by Yogi's when it was on 11th, and I remember people being EVERYWHERE.
Such a crazy first introduction to this town, I'll always remember it.
Guy across the street is an Indiana alum. He told me it's like every day is a dream and he's waiting to wake up. Imagine any given season your team is no better than Wake Forest and then you're on fire beating the teams that used to step on your necks.
It’s unreal. It’s something that I truly never thought possible, and I was fine with it. I’ve seen some horrendous Indiana football, and I never miss a game. This is truly something else. My wife has been very supportive lol
My friend, it’s truly insane. There are no words to describe this. The amount of truly horrible football we’ve seen in our lifetimes is enough to demoralize even the biggest die-hards. To go from that to this defies words.
I’ve been an IU fan for 40 years, I have gone to over 50 IU football home games, Cig is finishing what Tom started, I played under Tom @ Ben Davis as my D line coach in the early 2000s, I’ve never been so fucking proud in my life, I legit had tears in my eyes at both the OSU game and the Bama game. I’m an IU fan first a ND fan second and this might be the best week of my life.
I've been thinking about Coach Hep a lot this season. It wouldn't have happened like this, obviously, but I think he was getting something started before he passed.
I live in LA and got given last minute tickets to the rosebowl today. My granddad was a huge IU fan, so we took the kids and hopped on the band-wagon for the afternoon.
I gotta say. The IU fans were just so damn happy to be there. They all had such a great attitude and were so kind. The weather was shit, and the tailgating was a muddy mess, but they were all just talking about what a beautiful stadium it was, and how cool it was to be at the rose bowl, and how the sun was gonna come out any second now. Not only that, but they fucking TRAVELED. That stadium was like 85% IU fans. I want them to win it all so much now.
I was a freshman when Knight was fired. One of my profs at the time was a huge fan of the FB team, even though "IU football is very hard to watch". I did a quick search. Good to see you're still around Dr. Dalkilic, and if you're lurking here, I hope you're eating up this moment in time.
It's so fucking nice. So many of us have suffered through so much. When I was there back in the 90s, we rushed the field because we won our first big ten home game in 4 years against a winless Illinois team. And that was the highlight of my 4 years down there. I hope I never take this for granted.
I'm a 43 year old man. I came really close to crying after the OSU win. I got up off the stool at the bar I run (I was off, I worked earlier) and went and pressed my face into my hands against the wall and just stood there with my mind going in a million directions, slightly shaking. Then I bought a round for the bar.
Tonight I was at a family dinner. It was just pure bliss watching that game. It compares to some times I've done mdma.
Saban showed what you could do with a program when you could pay 5*'s under the table to sit on the depth chart and not transfer because they were one of the only four teams to keep getting into the playoffs.
Deboer is showing what a program looks like when you can't do that anymore
No no I know. But after that ass whooping from Utah and probably being 40 places ahead of Indiana in talent composite and then watching them beat the shit out of Alabama I am very disenchanted
Talent composite doesn't mean shit anymore in the portal era. There's no world where you can watch that Indiana team and say with a straight face that they're one of the less talented teams in the country. Yes, the coaching is excellent, but those players are for real.
I know you’re talking in recent times but you did win a national title with Don James and you probably should have competed for a title under Rick Neuheisel.
You guys have had a meteoric rise as well...Utah has respect cause of Kyle, and urban. Jumped from g5 to power conference and dominated. I'd argue before Indianas turn around. You guys held title for how to grow
My friend told me when Cignetti first came that we would end up being a lot better of a team due to Mark Cuban donating NIL money. Even I couldn’t fully believe that we’d even be a consistently decent football team.
Never did either of us imagine that they’d actually go 14-0 and be favored to win the national championship, and what makes this even crazier is it has literally nothing to do with NIL whatsoever 😂
If you would have told me a couple years ago that these two played and it was a blowout, I would have thought it was a September game and bama won by 5 TDs.
Absolutely unbelievable. I had a feeling though that Cignetti and his boys would be a LOT more motivated than a number of other playoff teams with a bye, and would be much more driven. That said, this was an absolute annihilation.
Mendoza happy but not all smiles too. Even mentioned needing to start game planning for Oregon. The entire team is dialed in that this is a 3 game journey thanks to Cig.
I was just thinking of the 2023 Indiana team who beat Akron in 4OT where the student section just kept walking to the other end zone with each new period since there was no one there in the stands to get in their way. Absolutely insane how much of a turnaround it’s been.
And in the same breath that Nbrasketball would finish 2025 undefeated and in the top 15 with the nations longest winning streak. They’d be like, “oh they’re just confusing the two.” But no. This. Is life now.
Nah, they put basketball courts in football venues all the time now. People would have just assumed that that was what you were talking about. They still would have been surprised to see this.

Also, Curt Cignetti after the game be like: 😐
