This is what college football is all about. First win in Minneapolis since 1977. The rushing the field, the coach saying it's the best day of his life - you love to see it.
Ah yes. I remember the riots too when demands were made to make 2x a quarter the new norm. Couldn’t sleep for 3 days between the gunfire and endless stench of shit everywhere
Man I’d give anything to get back to shit your pants day at school. The deacons look down on it in Sunday School now, but I think I can win ‘em over in time.
That’s malicious compliance with the rules. It actually helps the field rush because it puts the idea in everyone’s head. I certainly didn’t see any attempt to stop them pouring down the stairs.
I think it's more that they're officially not allowed to have field rushes, but if the request to stay off (inevitably) gets ignored then it's easier and safer to let them on rather than have a clash at the edge of the field.
Sven and Olie are sitting in their tree stand during rifle season waiting for a deer to wander through the meadow. Suddenly, a man in a blaze orange vest comes from the woods into the clearing, and upon seeing the tree stand, starts waving his hands over his head and says “don’t shoot, don’t shoot, I’m not a deer.”
Sven takes aim and gets him right through the heart.
Olie asks “Sven, why’d you do that, he said he wasn’t a deer.”
Olie replies “Oh darn, I thought he said he was a deer”
In the upper Midwest people are very nice but passive aggressive, so if someone says “I’m not mad” they’re very angry, “it’s ok” means it’s very much not okay, etc. Many times when someone explicitly says something it means the opposite
I certainly didn’t see any attempt to stop them pouring down the stairs.
Glad they learned the lesson. I remember one of the first times we did it at the stadium after they opened and there were a couple of security guards throwing kicks as peoples knees as they ran by. Dude got leveled by someone after he kicked the legs out from under a girl and then ended up getting taken aside by another guard or two.
Yep. I was telling the people around me today to be careful. This wasn't my first rodeo (fifth, actually). Gotta land with as much bend as your joints can muster to cushion the blow, otherwise I'd try and fall forward onto the turf for the same reason.
I feel they have to do it because someone will get trampled and file a lawsuit but maybe just make it easier somehow? Like design the walls so they can just fold down into ramps or something
They are legally forced to do it I think, so if anything happens they'll be like: your honor we told them not to do it, we are not responsible for what the doctors found in this lad's rectum afterwards
I imagine that's more so the university can say "we told people not to". Kind of like going to a metal concert and the arena asking people between sets to not crowd surf or mosh.
Halloween Night 2015, 11 year old me skipped trick or treating to go to this game, when we lost on the final play after failing to get in from the 1 yard line
If Mason didn't choke 03 Michigan and 05 Wisconsin his legacy looks a bit different. He was able to win all 3 rivalry trophies (did we have the PSU Bell when he was here?). Thats something few Gopher coaches can say.
Unfortunately according to a Stanford study and even the NFL's own study, guardian caps don't reduce concussion or head injury risk at all. In fact it could make the players wearing them at a higher risk of injury as it could provide them with a false sense of security leading to them making riskier plays on the field.

Unfortunately I saw a report about them the other day that said that third party testing has shown they aren't more effective than regular helmets. In fact it's been hypothesized that they may be more dangerous for players as wearing them provides the player with a false sense of security, the players thinking they are more protected than they are, which leads to them making riskier plays on the field.
Michigan fans rush the field after beating a MAC Western Michigan. Validity of rushing the field is not a criticism Michigan should argue on this year.
It brings back memories tbh. I was a freshman at UMN in 2019 and lost my virginity to a girl I met at a game after we beat Penn State. God speed to the 2026 nerdy CSE boy getting some tonight while everyone is riding this high 🫡
Ok, I did not have this context watching the end of that game (on the TV at the bar, no sound) and thought the field storming was a little eye roll worthy. So I take back my eye roll and comment - you earned that Minnesota.
The rushing the field, the coach saying it's the best day of his life - you love to see it.
I love the enthusiasm and the love for his program but isn't this a pretty underwhelming thing to call the best day of your professional career? Like, he's been at Minnesota for almost a decade, and the best day of his life is beating a team that should have lost to Western Michigan and is only 50-50 odds to be bowl eligible?
