I will say this as an Indiana fan and having looked at the metrics before the game, how the absolute hell is Nebraska not ranked?

Cause we’ve beat nobody with a pulse

Nebraska and Northwestern are really good teams.

Of course you’d say that, you have vested interest. They are probably both worthy of top 25 rankings, but that’s the thing with college football. There are so many teams and so much hinges on perception and subjectivity like prestige, recruiting, etc… Nebraska and Northwestern would probably be ranked if they were an above average program the last 2 decades, but they haven’t been, so they don’t get the benefit of the doubt.

Cool

Didn't realize how good teams were ten years ago matters to football being played today. Indiana shouldn't be ranked either then. The tapes the tapes, ap needs better voters and accountability then.

Do you remember how long it took Indiana to move up the rankings a couple of years ago before they won the championship? I remember. OT was all Reddit would talk about.

Because unfortunately, we always lose the minute we start seeing any sort of success.

Regardless, proud of this team. We’re better than we have been in a long time. Just can’t close out a close game against a top opponent.

What are you proud of? Playing 75% of a game and quitting?

9

u/Sagga_muffin Nebraska Cornhuskers • Navy Midshipmen 7d ago

I’m proud of the team for not losing by 49 points like we did 2 years ago to a team with 2 NFL WRs.

-4

u/wrangling_turnips Nebraska Cornhuskers 7d ago

This used to be a proud program. Now we are proud when we don’t get blown out? That collapse in the 4th erases any positivity.

u/Sagga_muffin Nebraska Cornhuskers • Navy Midshipmen 7d ago

You know what, you’re right. We should just go back to being a proud program like we were 30 years ago. Wonder if any of the several coaching staffs we’ve had since then have considered that.

Based on the last decade, a 3 point loss against the #7 team in the country and defending champs is a win. Go ahead and keep up the pity party. I’m bummed that we lost, and encouraged that we can hang with some of the best.

See ya next week.

Yeah. Don’t agree. We’ve spent too much money and invested too much for moral victories anymore.

Some people are so proud that they're unable to objectively look at their football team. Your "pride" is getting in your way.

-2

u/wrangling_turnips Nebraska Cornhuskers 7d ago

You’re saying I have too much personal pride to be proud of a loss my team has?

1

u/TheRealMarvinator Air Force Falcons • Kansas Jayhawks 7d ago

No, I'm saying you have so much fake pride that's thoroughly wrapped up in a sporting team that you're unable to objectively look at the football team that you allegedly are a fan of.

Frankly, you just sound like the kind of asshat that can't handle the thing they've made their personality not being the absolute best in the world. It's embarrassing for you.

1

u/wrangling_turnips Nebraska Cornhuskers 7d ago

I don’t have any pride in them anymore. I never played for them. I was a student there a long time ago. I think the program has been run poorly and they do break our hearts regularly.

1

u/TheRealMarvinator Air Force Falcons • Kansas Jayhawks 7d ago

But why do you care SO MUCH about it? It's a sporting event. It's ridiculous to get so wrapped up in it that it's part of your personality.

Nebraska fans who think that because we spend a bunch of money on the program, that we should just beat teams like Indiana are completely delusional. We haven’t earned the right to be the “proud program we once were”

Playing Indiana as close as we did today is a great step in the right direction based on the last year We lost to this team by 49 2 years ago.

This person is just delusional and lame.

1

u/wrangling_turnips Nebraska Cornhuskers 7d ago

Perhaps. I didn’t say we should be expecting wins like this. I said I’m over moral victories. We do invest a lot to be dog shit, historically. We recruit well and spend well to underperform. I expect to lose the games we should and be in the 8-9 win mark consistently.

We piss away leads in the 4th enough that I’m just done with moral victories and that’s not delusional. Them being Indiana doesn’t make blowing that lead acceptable.

I'm bummed out about this loss as much as anyone but for 3 quarters and change we did play damn good football.

We're not in the SEC

-5

u/HankChinaski- Colorado Buffaloes 7d ago

With the schedule of an FCS school prior to Indiana. The bigger cause of not being ranked.

u/StinkySting Nebraska • Nebraska-Kearney 7d ago

Well from the people that replied to my comment in the AP Poll thread on Sunday, the consensus seemed to be that we “haven’t played anybody”

No quality loss.

won't ever be

u/PossibleEquivalent90 Nebraska Cornhuskers • Sickos 6d ago

Nebraska doesn't deserve to be. Voters assume Nebraska will simply implode on itself because that's what they do.

And for the love of God, I hope they don't pity rank Nebraska because they almost became relevant and almost won a meaningful game for the first time in over a decade.

Make them earn it.

u/Park_BADger Nebraska Cornhuskers • Team Chaos 7d ago

Because we're 0-1 in games against not shit teams? Literally winless in games that matter.

Even if we count the 2 B1G wins we're still just a meager 2-1.

Don't let the 5 wins fool you. We're a good team with nothing much to show for it. Hence the lack of a rank. And it's deserved.

-3

u/wrangling_turnips Nebraska Cornhuskers 7d ago

We are not a good team.

0

u/ladyhooper10 Indiana Hoosiers 7d ago

They beat 3 Jv teams and 2 of the worst 3 teams in the conference. I think they’re pretty good but no resume

3

u/FarmKid55 Nebraska Cornhuskers • Wyoming Cowboys 7d ago

By that logic you have no resume as well

0

u/ladyhooper10 Indiana Hoosiers 7d ago

Northwestern is better than anyone you’ve beat

4

u/FarmKid55 Nebraska Cornhuskers • Wyoming Cowboys 7d ago

Yes but not deserving of a #7 rank if we’re playing this game

2

u/ladyhooper10 Indiana Hoosiers 7d ago

Fair. I personally still think preseason rankings should have some weight until proven otherwise

4

u/Dingus-Kahn466 Nebraska Cornhuskers 7d ago

I personally think we should not have pre season rankings because they carry completely unproven weight

0

u/HoosierFanatic97 Indiana Hoosiers 7d ago

There are plenty of ranked teams with no quality wins or resume building wins though

1

u/ladyhooper10 Indiana Hoosiers 7d ago

So why would they be ranked then? And who has worse wins than them that’s ranked?

1

u/HoosierFanatic97 Indiana Hoosiers 7d ago

Tennessee’s best win is a Auburn

Houston’s best win is I guess UCF?

USC is an awful Washington team?

There are plenty of teams with no good or ranked wins but on the field Nebraska certainly looks top 25 and every analytical tool backs that up.
