Video [Highlight] Texas vs Oklahoma: Arch Manning pick six gives Oklahoma the lead!

Manning is going to get a GM fired and no one who actually watched him will be surprised.

u/HyperMasenko 6d ago
As a draft nerd, listening to him being the number 1 pick in every mock draft for 2 years has driven me nuts. It makes zero sense. I actually hope he does declare this year just so I dont have ti listen to it a whole nother season
99
u/istrx13 Boise State Broncos 6d ago
I swear from the minute Arch was born he’s been at the top of the mock draft boards.
57
u/2RINITY California Golden Bears • Redbox Bowl 6d ago
Well, yeah, his last name is Manning, so everyone in football media thinks he’s the destined protagonist of the sport
30

Correction. Football media doesn’t care if he is good or bad, pushing manning down our throats get them clicks one way or another.

He will have a solid game against Florida next week and ESPN will lead Sportscenter with "ARCH HAS ARRIVED!!!!"
37
u/IllAlfalfa Purdue Boilermakers 6d ago edited 6d ago
Wonder if we’ll get another Shedeur situation where there’s a massive gap between the mock drafts and the GMs.
38
u/HyperMasenko 6d ago
Probably not if I had to guess. Shadeur' arrogance seemed to be the biggest knock against him. With Arch theyll probably brush off the criticisms and say hes "a sponge, so teachable" and other things to avoid saying he hasnt proven he deserves to pick in Franchise QB territory
23
u/jacquesmachina 6d ago
Shedeurs main problem was he wasn't very good in college despite racking up stats against poor competition. Public analysts were afraid to alienate Deion, while actual team scouts weren't interested.
Arch has some great moments against great competition and some awful moments against awful competition. Arch is definitely a better prospect than Shedeur but he sure as hell is not a 1st round pick right now.
Arch will probably go back to school again next year.

My take has long been not that he deserves to be the #1 pick, but that someone is going to take him at #1. Different than having a personal draft board if you know what I mean?

4th round QB is a weird definition of sucking
18
u/sniper91 Minnesota Golden Gophers 6d ago
Most drafted there become backups or starters who have their teams looking for a new QB in a few years
Pretty big difference for a guy who’s been hyped as a sure fire top pick for a few years
8
u/bigt2k4 Western Ontario Mustangs 6d ago
He has tools. He has a big arm, fairly accurate, quite athletic and mobile. Even if you have no pocket presence or ability to read a defense you will still be drafted in the middle rounds as an upside QB.
Josh Allen is obviously more athletic, but the knock on him was he couldn't throw the ball accurately and had no idea how to read a defense. He was also terrible for a couple years, before they fixed his mechanics and he broke out.

u/PFunk224 Ohio State Buckeyes 6d ago
I literally came here to say that there will be a fight among several NFL GM's to make this kid the first QB off the board, and everybody who watches college football is going to know for certain that whichever GM wins that fight does not watch college football.
16
u/forgotmyoldname90210 Florida State Seminoles 6d ago
Worse, the GM will be the scapegoat because the owner overided the GM because they want to be in the Manning business and sell tickets and jerseys.

This really might be the best rivalry game in all of college football. Mainly because the record and performance of the teams leading up to the game has no impact on the outcome. So many instances of the top 10 ranked favorite losing to an objectively worse opponent that has no business keeping it close.

Sark historically was a good run game coordinator, but the problem is he wouldn’t always stick to the run as a play caller.

I’m around a lot of Horns fans drunk on the Arch kool-aid in my personal life and I get into this debate all the time.
He has incredible physical tools. He’s fast. He can zip the ball 50 yards on a rope — but he’s an absolutely terrible processor. He’s better out of structure than in structure. He doesn’t look like a guy who can sit in the pocket and make basic reads. His mechanics are absolutely garbage and he’s consistently bailed out by his athleticism — which at the next level is really, really hard to translate without the mechanics and processing when everyone else’s athleticism levels up.
I genuinely don’t think he’s an NFL caliber quarterback at this point in his career and don’t understand the hype at all.

I took a nap and didn't see this game. I just saw this and the other pick. These are both horrible decisions to throw and are both examples of Arch's terrible mechanics. Arch has no idea what to do with his feet, he ends up doing a back foot crow hop for some reason? I guess he thinks if he hops he can lob it better? This ball is an INT in high school, so idea why he thinks he is getting away with it here.
The second one is similar. It looks like he is trying to hit an out, but the ball is incredibly late so the WR is already at the sideline. Then he is running backwards and throws off his back foot again on an out where his WR has no room to even try to help him out. This is another INT like 90% of the time.
These are both balls that get QBs pulled. Both were plays where Sark is calling deeper routes that Arch is going to have time for. He has to scramble and try to find something downfield after avoiding pressure. Arch is making terrible decisions, but Sark is doing him no favors whatsoever.
Arch did make a good throw on the deep TD, but that WR was behind the defense. All you have to do is hit he back of the end zone and it is INC at worst. If his name is not Manning this kid is not playing in the SEC, and is definitely not starting at Texas. I don't see how Sark doesn't take enormous shit for throwing his guy out there week after week and seeing him give the game away because he cannot run the offense Sark is running. Either the QB has to change or the offense has to change.
