Arch lost Texas this game at the end and essentially gave them their first loss of the year. I was pretty high on him to start the year despite what most people said, but these last two games he’s been pretty bad.

People need to start asking why two 5 star QBs back to back have regressed under Sark despite infinite talent around them

u/iguanoman_ Iowa Hawkeyes • Team Chaos 6d ago

Hey that's Atlanta Falcons legend Steve Sarkisian you're talking about

u/ATLDawg99 Georgia • Georgia Tech 6d ago

I’m having traumatic superbowl flashbacks now thanks

1

u/PettyRang Georgia Bulldogs • Ohio State Buckeyes 6d ago

Sark wasn't the OC that year, that was Shanahan. He was OC in the playoff lost to the Eagles the year after.

u/ATLDawg99 Georgia • Georgia Tech 6d ago

Oh wow that’s right

Arch should have never been the highest ranked recruit ever. His high school comp was PATHETIC

31

u/lowes18 Florida State Seminoles • FAU Owls 6d ago

Most high school comps are pathetic. Its why QB development sucks now.

30

u/WurstDayEver_7 Michigan Wolverines 6d ago

Well alot of the schools that have 5 stars play national schedules or are matched with better comp. Think IMG, Desoto TX, Duncanville TX, etc

8

u/Lifted_Cube_2413 Arizona State Sun Devils 6d ago

Arch was especially bad

12

u/lowes18 Florida State Seminoles • FAU Owls 6d ago

Arch was bad but most 5* play with a shit ton of talent around them which makes it mostly a moo point.

The middle class of high school talent is dead and that's really hurting QB development.

23

u/herpblarb6319 Tennessee Volunteers • Orange Bowl 6d ago

Joey, what is a moo point?

Wisconsin

Always has been

13

u/5thStESt Tennessee Volunteers 6d ago

He played for like the 7th best HS team in Orleans Parish

16

u/WurstDayEver_7 Michigan Wolverines 6d ago

Maybe because 5 star rankings on QBs are hit or miss and that Manning is only starting because of his last name and huge NIL package (like Bryce at Michigan).

22

u/lowes18 Florida State Seminoles • FAU Owls 6d ago

Manning was a great QB at the end of last year and has all the tools in the world.

This is all on Texas's coaching staff.

7

u/88cowboy Sickos • Texas-Pan American Broncs 6d ago

He completed like 47% of his passes against A&M in last regular season game..

3

u/Masmug Texas A&M Aggies 6d ago

Arch played today the same way he always does, when the defensive talent is good he'll give the other team the opportunity to get the ball a few times. He'll hit some skinny posts and wide open wheels with impressive throws while also trying a couple times a game to give the ball away. Only difference is when the defense is good enough to make those plays or not. My man's not horrible but he's absolutely never shown first round guy or heisman guy stuff on the field consistently, thats always been a result of last name.

3

u/apathynext Texas Longhorns • Rutgers Scarlet Knights 6d ago

Poor OL play is certainly part of it. We’ve sucked at running it for years

1

u/gmr548 Texas Longhorns • Washington Huskies 6d ago

We ran the ball fairly well today, Sark just called an atrocious game.

3

u/Kalen72 Indiana Hoosiers • College Football Playoff 6d ago

Maybe he could go to Indiana for improvement?

1

u/MrMegiddo Texas Longhorns • TCU Horned Frogs 6d ago

Regressed how? Quinn Ewers led the team to back to back playoff semi finals. Arch was one game away from making the playoffs last year and has lost a grand total of 4 games as a starter.

2

u/Sir_Bryan Ohio State Buckeyes 6d ago

Arch should have never been a 5 star QB

22

u/lowes18 Florida State Seminoles • FAU Owls 6d ago

He's a 6'4 dual threat QB with a cannon for an arm. That's a 5 stat almost every cycle.

1

u/Kdot32 Houston Cougars • LSU Tigers 6d ago

They could be overrated

1

u/RobbedC Notre Dame Fighting Irish 6d ago

Ewers injuries added up. He just didn’t have it physically by the end. Arch has always been ass. Most overhyped recruit of all time.

1

u/imbroke828 Texas Longhorns • USC Trojans 6d ago

Quinn was actually great in HS against great comp and then face a litany of ghosts and injuries. Arch piggybacked the name on his jersey. Dude was barreling over midgets and future accountants.

1

u/Daedalus43 USC Trojans • Washington Huskies 6d ago

Pro tip: pick up a Lane Kiffin reject

u/Tronvillain 6d ago

Arch is King Kong booty cheeks.

This is the insight and analysis I come to r/CFB for

1

u/BreezyMcWeasel Oklahoma Sooners 6d ago

And unflaired, no less. smh

27

u/2biddiez South Carolina • Duke's Mayo Bowl 6d ago

Been cheeks. He’s just always hyped up because he’s a Manning, and shown some flashy plays

7

u/AskMeAboutTheJets Georgia Bulldogs • Okefenokee Oar 6d ago

Never understood the hype for him at all. He’s always been mid but people blow him like crazy

3

u/ND7020 Michigan Wolverines • Washington Huskies 6d ago

Arch is a better Bryce Underwood. That’s not a complement.

2

u/Harbaugh_Handshake Tennessee • Arizona State 6d ago

He better get ready to learn Jete football

2

u/SiphenPrax Rutgers Scarlet Knights 6d ago

Who’s Godzilla booty cheeks then?

Marcel Reed

1

u/FlyingTexican Texas A&M Aggies • Navy Midshipmen 6d ago

I’d still trade Reed for him

25

u/Jay_Dubbbs Ohio State Buckeyes • Georgia Bulldogs 6d ago

He’s extremely inconsistent. His play is the reason they beat us.

9

u/DarkLegend64 Ohio State Buckeyes • /r/CFB Poll Veteran 6d ago

Played like prime Peyton Manning against us in the 4th quarter.

5

u/VeterinarianLevel467 6d ago

I think it’s sark, I mean he’s obsessed with wr bubbles and screens. When he let arch throw the ball down the field they gashed OU

3

u/OwnWalrus1752 Indiana Hoosiers 6d ago

Especially considering he threw two perfect balls that his receivers fucked up, including one leading to an INT.

0

u/NA_Faker Texas Longhorns • Wisconsin Badgers 6d ago

Nah it was Ryan Day being a choke artist

86

u/Sei_Mal_Ehrlich Iowa State Cyclones 6d ago

If his last name were Johnson or Williams he’d be viewed like Sam Ehlinger was. Kid has a huge uphill battle to live up to the expectations placed on him by others.

19

u/WhiskeyTangoBush Texas Longhorns 6d ago

That’s insane disrespect to Sam Ehlinger.

16

u/wouldntnickel Oklahoma Sooners 6d ago

Arch is not near the QB Sam was

5

u/Fair_Squirrel_3057 6d ago

Yes, the expectations for Arch were, and have been, very unrealistic for several years. If he was really a superstar upon arriving at UT he would not sit 2-years behind Sam Ehlinger.

Now let’s look at this season. Comparing Arch against the other starting SEC Qb performances for first 5 games this year ?? Arch is at best 6-8th out of 18. IOW, he’s been mediocre / good.

All that said, I’m really happy for OU. I suspect few folks thought OU would be competitive against UT. Glad to see the underdog hold-tight and win in dramatic fashion.

3

u/The_Ghost_of_TK9 Oklahoma Sooners • Utah Utes 6d ago

Ehlinger was the definition of grit. Great player on some not so great teams.

4

u/tyfe SMU Mustangs • Billable Hours 6d ago

Ehlinger was better.

21

u/giggitybuck Ohio State Buckeyes 6d ago

I see you got the right thread this time lol

6

u/SiphenPrax Rutgers Scarlet Knights 6d ago

Yeah I admittedly looked at the colors on the picture of the thread and fucked up lol. Oh well, I’ll take the L. It happens.

1

u/OwnWalrus1752 Indiana Hoosiers 6d ago

Are we getting a top-five matchup next week if Georgia wins tonight?

3

u/giggitybuck Ohio State Buckeyes 6d ago

I think we may regardless

3

u/2-59project Indiana Hoosiers • Oklahoma Sooners 6d ago

We are 5-0 and keep moving down, from 4 to 7. I’m not optimistic that the voters will see @ Nebraska as a good win unfortunately

9

u/Skidda24 Ohio State Buckeyes • Illibuck 6d ago

I've watched Arch since last year against Ohio State and the worst thing people do is treat him as the second coming of Peyton Manning.

Arch is not Peyton. He doesn't strike me as a person that is obsessed with the strategy side that he will break down the defense PRE snap to the point he will know exactly what you are doing. He just isn't that kind of player.

However, I think he is more like Eli where he is great post snap and a gun slinger. Sometimes that comes back down from 20-3 from Ohio State sometimes that lose you the game. But if he gets hot at the right time Texas can win it all

0

u/GetSkied15 /r/CFB 6d ago

great post snap

Only thing he ever lead the league in was ints

3

u/FrostTroll69 Ohio State Buckeyes 6d ago

u/Zloggt Illinois Fighting Illini • Missouri Tigers 6d ago

You just know that hot take commentators (and other types of flashy/argumentive journalists & content creators) are going to rake in some big dough from it this week 🤑

2

u/CodyRCantrell Oklahoma • Red River Shootout 6d ago

Earlier this season a broadcast said Arch was the least accurate QB in the SEC and 122nd in the country for throws 0-10 yards last season.

He is extremely inconsistent and very bad at check downs or anything short. I mean, damn, he almost had a throw away intercepted this game.

2

u/ShitSide Notre Dame Fighting Irish 6d ago

That boy is TRASH

2

u/Icy_Meat9199 Texas Tech Red Raiders 6d ago

He's always been bad it has never changed

There was a period of time where he threw screens and behind the LOS in SEC network games and generated a lot of empty stats

Vs anyone with a pulse defensively he's been the problem

2

u/WanderLeft Oklahoma Sooners • Oklahoma Sooners 6d ago

I told y’all that he sucks!

2

u/gmr548 Texas Longhorns • Washington Huskies 6d ago

I agree he had been better than given credit for coming into the game. It’s just cool to hate on him and Texas and I get that. People - mostly Texas fans in the game thread, weirdly - were way too hot on criticizing his playing the first half. He was honestly pretty good for a while, Sark just really called a poor game.

But he seemed to get mentally rattled playing in the OU end in the second half fourth quarter and it was baaaaad. Those are probably the two most back breaking turnovers of his career. Just awful. Indefensible. He just doesn’t have it mentally.

1

u/DanFlashesC0up0n Texas A&M Aggies 6d ago

Never seen a player with such high highs and low lows

1

u/xEl33tistx 6d ago

I think you have to put it in context. They have not done a good job protecting him. His mistakes all seem to come when he’s running for his life but doesn’t have room to gain yards with his legs. He tends to try to force things in the air in those situations vs throwing it away, getting out of bounds, or just getting to the line of scrimmage and sliding. Does he need to improve his decision making in those moments? Absolutely. However he should not be in those situations so often at a school like UT with the resources they have at their disposal to assemble a roster.

1

u/DistrictPleasant Alabama Crimson Tide 6d ago

lol he’s still going #1. Idk why
