The last Arch pick was horrifically bad, he just panicked. Literally just chuck that out of bounds or take the sack and the games going to OT

Arch was awful but so was Sark. 4th and 2 to 100% win the game and you try a 53 yarder??? 2 yards and the game is over. Cowardly.

I could not believe it. Sark never kicks in that situation and our kicker isn’t even that good. Not that Manning would’ve converted but you have to go for it there.

u/LonghornInNebraska Texas Longhorns • Michigan Wolverines 6d ago

Sark goes for it without hesitation against Ohio State then completely goes conservative against OU

u/Insectshelf3 Oklahoma • Red River Shootout 6d ago

this was a head scratcher for us too. we have a very good defense, but being good at ending drives is not the same thing as holding a team to less than two yards on any given play. sark is smart enough to convert that consistently.

Yeah I mean even if you fail it's no worse than missing the kick. The kick was close but even that doesn't put the game away.

u/gmr548 Texas Longhorns • Washington Huskies 6d ago

He’s kicked in that situation before. It’s how we lost to OU in 2023. He did not learn.

u/torchwooddoctor 6d ago

They couldn’t get short yardage all game long with that line. Should have just done play action and run it himself.

2

u/BillyU_Is_A_ Ohio State Buckeyes 6d ago

he saw Todd Bowles do stupid shit on Thursday and thought to himself "hahaha who would ever go for it there when you could kick and seal! (don't look at the distance from the goal)"

Just punt it is what I was saying. Take a delay of game if you have to get the depth. Pin them at their 15 with the Texas crowd right there and make Mateer play.

Aranda wouldn't have kicked it

u/Neither-Luck-9295 Texas Longhorns 6d ago

That's who Sark is. And his ego is too big to let the OC call plays.

9

u/Global_Advance1150 Tennessee • Vanderbilt 6d ago

You are 100% correct about the ego thing!

3

u/teshh Georgia Bulldogs 6d ago

Fr just ask any falcons fan how bad sark actually is. Dude is just lucky the rest of the ncaa is trash so texas with its 9 figure checkbook can easily go into playoffs but they'll never win with dark.

u/dangerdaniel27 Texas A&M Aggies 6d ago

New OC’s are killing teams this year. My Ags are one, Oregon is another and a few more. Sark calling plays might not be that bad….honestly.

1

u/Neither-Luck-9295 Texas Longhorns 6d ago

HCs who call their own plays rarely win long term. I was shocked to hear that as well, but apparently it's a pretty recent trend, like the last decade and a half or so.

1

u/dangerdaniel27 Texas A&M Aggies 6d ago

I know, I am saying it’s a weird year of new OCs killing their team in college and pro. Eagles in the NFL, a lot of college teams

u/Neither-Luck-9295 Texas Longhorns 6d ago

Yeah and Shotty shitting the bed in Dallas. Lots of nepo coaches and good ole boys with their heads up their asses after falling upwards in life.

You forget OU has stopped UT multiple times on 3rd and short the whole game. And if your QB is Arch Manning I don't trust a quick throw from him either.

7

u/OldManCinny Tennessee Volunteers • Texas Longhorns 6d ago

They were driving. Doesn’t matter. You absolutely 100% have to go for it there. OU wasn’t completing anything down the field then the last drive they did…

2

u/BrotherVoid_ Miami Hurricanes • FAU Owls 6d ago

Coach Sark isn't good. I remember his sus play calling in the Sugar Bowl too

11

u/coleyboley25 Texas Longhorns • South Dakota Coyotes 6d ago

Not going for it on that 4th down is unforgivable. I knew we lost before the FG was even kicked

1

u/OldManCinny Tennessee Volunteers • Texas Longhorns 6d ago

100%. As soon as I saw the FG team come out made a big live bet on OU before the attempt. Easy money betting against Texas

u/DrPuzzle 6d ago

I'm one of the few I think who thinks Arch is/has the makings to truly be one of the higher end QBs. Plus, obviously with his family ties he has everything he needs.

His biggest problem seems to be just doing some stupid shit and letting himself go mentally. He's got to learn to just keep his shit together in the big moments like this

Just does bone-headed things. Not on a scale that leads you to believe he'll be bad in the NFL but he does them frequently enough where it definitely makes you go "he's kind of mid"

u/jimmycorn24 Oklahoma Sooners 6d ago

5th round pick

4

u/Sil_Floor_4791 6d ago

nah we have a big enough sample size, he has nothing between the ears. Very awkward to watch him. He seems panicked.

9

u/ND7020 Michigan Wolverines • Washington Huskies 6d ago

I simply don’t understand this level of delusion that makes people watch this man and think he’ll be a good NFL QB. Yes, to the level of he’ll bad in the NFL.

2

u/yuzumint Georgia Bulldogs • UAB Blazers 6d ago

theres really only like hurts, herbert, and nix who had as much negative hype and turned out to be ok starters. shough to some extent, most people expected him to get injured before ever doing anything tbh. if the scouts see he has the tools and if arch aint gonna to stay another year or transfer, do you bet you can turn what he has into something. theres a lot of guys who can go top 10 but its seems kinda ho hum class overall.

1

u/ND7020 Michigan Wolverines • Washington Huskies 6d ago

Every one of those guys had special qualities one way or another that Arch hasn’t exhibited in the least. And every one of them had college seasons in a totally different stratosphere than Arch has exhibited so far.

I don’t get it at all. Acting like he deserves a college comparison to those guys is crazy!! Why are we doing this!

-1

u/DrPuzzle 6d ago

I mean, I don't think it's delusional to say he has the tools to do it. Because if you argue against that you're just straight wrong lol.

But I agree he has to put it all together in order to stand out in the NFL. That's something that the other members of the "bloodline" were able to do. Arch has shown on several occasions that he has the tools but as with many good college players will that translate? It's yet to be seen. And then you watch a game like today and see how ugly that was and it kind of does make even the most positive of supporters like myself go "yeah he might not pan out"

But as of right now the biggest issue with Arch is between his ears and he can't seem to get out of his own way. Which when it consistently appears to be a problem... Is concerning

3

u/ND7020 Michigan Wolverines • Washington Huskies 6d ago

What tools? What special tools does he have? The NFL is fucking hard, my man.

3

u/Chiron17 Notre Dame • Jeweled Shillelagh 6d ago

Your dad and uncle being really good doesn't help you make a play either

0

u/The_Ghost_of_TK9 Oklahoma Sooners • Utah Utes 6d ago

His arm is an absolute howitzer and legitimately one of the strongest I have seen. Not strongest in the sense of throwing the ball far; strongest in terms of fitting the ball into windows that others can't.

Which might actually hurt him as it enables bad habits he can get away with mentally in college he won't in the NFL.

u/Fair_Squirrel_3057 6d ago edited 6d ago

Arch is who he is. He’s not what folks thought he was (or would be) coming out of high school.

He’s a 22-year old kid with a famous last name. Arch is being very well $$ compensated, in large part because of his last name. Still, it must be tough for him to realize there are a lot of college quarterbacks with more demonstrated talent.

1

u/Cojoma West Virginia Mountaineers 6d ago

You’d think this would be one of things he’s a natural at with his bloodline and who raised him.

2

u/deepayes Houston Cougars • Arkansas Razorbacks 6d ago

As a legendary QB from the state of Texas once said, there's no room for fear in this game.

2

u/PsykicPaper Texas Longhorns 6d ago

Not sure how you preach “winners win, baby” and decided to go for a long shot. So frustrating to see that after coming back from the 2 min timeout

Sark is such a shit coach

Crazy

We lost the OU game in very similar fashion a few years ago. Took a long 50+ yd FG - which was not a gimme at all - on fourth and like four in a tie game against a gassed OU defense. Ewers had recovered from a rough start and was absolutely dealing. Like 19 straight completions or something stupid.

Texas went up 3 and OU went down and scored to win. 4 yards to foreclose on any chance of losing in regulation and he passed.

Texas could have done similar today by taking a chance on 4th and 2 in a game where their backs were averaging north of 4 ypc, and they had hit on throws of 16, 14, and 7 on the drive already. Nope, let’s kick a fucking 53 yarder.

Such an obvious decision from a win probability perspective. I’m so tired of his shit.

Sark is a good coach but when talent levels at equal and/or its this game, he might be the last coach of the big programs I would want.

1

u/BreezyMcWeasel Oklahoma Sooners 6d ago

Especially given how ballsy he was in the OSU game.

0

u/mccoolio Oklahoma Sooners 6d ago

3rd down conversion was piss poor all game let's be real. Kicker had the leg, barely missed it.

2

u/OldManCinny Tennessee Volunteers • Texas Longhorns 6d ago

A good sign of it being a bad decision is when the opponent is happy with your decision. I assure you all OU fans had a sigh of relief when the FG team came out

0

u/WOKEJEDIFOOL Texas Longhorns • Miami Hurricanes 6d ago

We can’t run the football

2

u/OldManCinny Tennessee Volunteers • Texas Longhorns 6d ago

2 yards. We averaged 3.8/carry and had multiple good runs that drive. Have to go for it.
