Because USC chickened out and our schedules happened to align?

I love BYU. I feel terrible about this game. The stars are aligning for a massacre.

I want 70-0 so bad, then Notre Dame to gut every other team, so then when they want to put 1 loss ND in, they have to let in BYU and Utah and hurt the committee with 2 Big 12s

Notre Dame isn’t gonna look that bad they’ll keep it within a few scores

Unfortunately utah has a sports curse and this game is the perfect type of game for it to rear its ugly head

The curse covers the entire state unfortunately

Speak for yourself. My erection after beating USC so badly they ran out of the conference has still not gone down

I’m happy and all for you but you might want to see a doctor for health and probably legal reasons. It can’t be a good look to be walking around all bricked up all day.

We were all Utes that day

Well unless you really like Skiing.

Utah has won 7 of the last 10 NCAA skiing championships.

How many has BYU won? 0!

Like when BYU beat #1 Miami in Provo, or when they beat #13 Texas A&M in Provo, or when they beat #15 Texas in Provo so bad that the defensive coordinator got fired the next day.

Michael Jordan brought the curse and it was a 5-7 Charlie Strong Texas team we whooped (still really fun, but far from the #1 Miami win)

I am getting vibes of the Max Hall BYU team that beat UCLA at home like 56-0 and was ranked like #12 and then got embarrassed by a mediocre 6-6 FSU the next week like 54-28 where we never even competed.

u/mangoman1 BYU Cougars • Iowa State Cyclones 18h ago

If it cursed the whole state what about Utah being a BCS buster twice as well as going to the Rose Bowl? Give me a break with the self-flagellation

Don't yall have some kind of vampire team, like if you play at night you guys win at home?

BYU's gonna win this game and then lose again to Lance Leipold on a cold day in Lawrence

This isn’t even the first time a third-ranked Notre Dame has played at BYU. What’s even the point here?

Notre Dame ranked 2nd....

I imagine it’ll be a weird feeling next year when people complain about how there are no good teams on NDs schedule when Auburn is one of the teams we play.

12

u/IDontTortureChickens Notre Dame • Ball State 20h ago

They were fine doing it with Arkansas last year (who ND nuked by almost as much as their entire SEC schedule did put together), so it won't be anything new.

Where the toughest games you play are BYU, Virginia, WF, and Duke?

10

u/bigasiannd Notre Dame Fighting Irish 20h ago

Auburn.

u/staplor Arizona State • Territorial Cup 20h ago edited 20h ago

Okay? One of the ACC teams I listed might perform worse than Auburn in 2027, but that's an indictment on them, not an endorsement of Auburn.

10

u/TheRealCatDad Notre Dame Fighting Irish 20h ago

The person he’s responding to is an Auburn fan. This isn’t that hard.

lmao, I missed that, thanks.

3

u/ShackletonsVael Notre Dame Fighting Irish 20h ago

I mean I hope James Franklin can have VT be competitive. Although I would trade Michigan State for Michigan every single year.

1

u/staplor Arizona State • Territorial Cup 20h ago

Yeah. As glad as I am that ND is playing BYU, it's sad to see the series with USC go.

4

u/ShackletonsVael Notre Dame Fighting Irish 20h ago

USC pulled out like bitches anyway so that's on them.

u/sebsasour Notre Dame • New Mexico 20h ago

There is this idea that every P4 school plays half their schedule against top 15 type teams lol.

I will give The SEC credit because I do genuinely find the league to be insanely deep but pretty much every ACC and Big 12 team only plays a game or 2 against an actual at large playoff level type team. Even The Big Ten is quite draw dependent, plenty of teams can get through that only playing a couple high level teams.

Yes Notre Dame's week to week schedule kinda blows, but we do play what's far and away the best team in The ACC and a team who at least has an argument for best in The Big 12. If we win 11 or 12 games we deserve to be in, if we go 10-2, we don't barring some insane luck with a very weak bubble.

Beyond that it will all be settled in December and January.

13

u/bigasiannd Notre Dame Fighting Irish 20h ago edited 20h ago

The SEC is top heavy. Two or three (if you count UT) teams. The rest are inflated because they beat each other. LSU crushed Clemson in the opener, so they were ranked high. Then Ole Miss beat them, UF beat Ole Miss, Mizzou beat UF. So each team gets credit for beating an overranked team.

-13

u/Altruistic_Night2 Alabama Crimson Tide 20h ago

Not really a lot of teams are pretty close to in skill. An example of this is Alabama and Kentucky. Kentucky is a genuinely talented team but people see the final score and think they suck and the league is deep enough to where anyone besides the true bottom feeders (vandy and Arkansas) can upset anybody

10

u/Patrick2701 Notre Dame • North Central (IL) 20h ago

You guys play UT Chattanooga

Do people from confederate territory ever have an original or intelligent thought?

3

u/thebusterbluth Notre Dame Fighting Irish 20h ago

I love how you can look at a map of slave states in 1860 and it's basically the SEC vs Big Ten. Some things never change.

It’s weird how r/cfb’s go-to is just bring up the confederacy. If you wanna do that with someone, do it with me. Leave the auburn fan alone, smh.

I didn't know the LDS church loved slavery so much that's odd

ND strong armed BYU (as they do many teams) into giving up a home game in an already lopsided series agreement. Sigh, at least this is a home and home.

13

u/cooterdick Tennessee • North Carolina 20h ago

They gave up a home game to get a home game in a home and home?

6

u/rageb8err Ole Miss Rebels • BYU Cougars 20h ago edited 20h ago

No this is separate from 26/27 series.

They agreed to a 4/2 (four in SB, two in Provo) six-game series in 2010. Most of the games got canceled a couple years into it bc of ND agreeing to that ACC scheduling agreement.

So BYU played the first two in SB in 2012/2013 and the only “home” game for BYU that ND didn’t cancel was a game they moved to 2022, but forced BYU to play it in Vegas, make ND the home team, and gave them a higher ticket count than BYU.

It’s in the article, the downvotes are crazy lol.

7

u/saltytradewinds Notre Dame • Oregon State 18h ago

I was bummed they canceled the series. Would have been a lot of fun too.

0

u/rageb8err Ole Miss Rebels • BYU Cougars 18h ago

Yeah, I think ND would have not gone that route had the ACC agreement never happened. It wasn’t black and white.

BUT they have a lot of influence and they will and often do strong arm teams to give up home games, because what else are they gonna do? Playing ND in Timbuktu will still generate more money than whoever their replacement is. ND has a lot of weight to throw around, it’s impressive.
