Postgame Thread [Postgame Thread] Tulane Defeats Memphis 31-17

Are we sure Marcus Stokes' family wasn't kidnapped and is being held hostage in a basement somewhere?
36
u/BakedSparkles LSU Tigers • Tulane Green Wave 19h ago
Will Hall knew he was on the hot seat and took some extreme measures to keep his job
11
u/Defacto_Champ Army Black Knights 18h ago
Stokes with one of the worst performances I’ve seen by a qb in the FBS. If there was an chance he was going to try to make the NFL, that’s gone after tonight

u/OnMyNerves23 Paper Bag 17h ago edited 17h ago
The box score does not do a great job of telling the story of this game that he will not want to remember.
20-37/306/2 … 3 int, 3 fumbles, 2 fumbles lost. Jesus. These young men are better than me. I’d never overcome the adversity of my own brain. I’d hang up the cleats and get to selling gently used, low-mileage preowned cars with no credit history needed.

Wouldn't be the first time Tulane fans kidnapped tiger.

Coming in, Stokes had 1500+ yards, 16 TDs, 3 INTs and 1 lost fumble on the year.
Coming out he has 6 INTs and 3 lost fumbles. Doubled his INT total and tripled his lost fumble total in one night.
All time “shit the bed” performance.
I’m not one to pass blame on one player, but tonight I make an exception. This one was on Stokes.

Tulane also had 7 sacks this game, after having 6 sacks as a defense in the first five games.
21
u/_ViceVerses_ 16h ago
Tulane had 1 turnover through 5 games - they forced 6 tonight.
Tulane was 9th worst in QB pressures on the season - they had 7 sacks tonight. It goes on and on. Weird game.

God as much as I'd love to see an annual clash of my flairs, Tulane in the Pac gives me the ick but I'm too stuck in the past I guess

u/Adams5thaccount Boise State Broncos • UNLV Rebels 16h ago
Ok but hear me out. Your furthest out conference member is currently 6 states away. In the PAC it would only be 5.
Obviously no additional math os neccesary after this.

Only one team has made the CG at 6-2 since getting rid of divisions, but I can see it happening this year. UNT, FAU, and UTSA are the only unbeatens left already, and they play round-robin.

u/djsquilz Tulane Green Wave • Victory Flag 1h ago
atp i think the usual suspects are a 3 pack (not 6 pack) of ass and will self cannibalize. then if no other clear g5 fav appears, usf, memphis, army, tulane, (i think maybe utsa?) will get an ass whooping in the playoffs even worse than tulane last year.

u/JKess207 Tulane Green Wave • Rutgers Scarlet Knights 19h ago
You can never take any conclusions from this game. The worse team always wins.
GG Memphis

u/Calithrand Oregon State Beavers • Platypus Trophy 18h ago
I dunno... apparently we can conclude that Tulane is the worse team?
5
u/The_Dreams Memphis Tigers • American 15h ago
I’ll be honest until that last back breaking 4th down score the game wasn’t put to bed, and we had like 6 turnovers. Neither team should have ever won this game lol.

u/mickeyt1 Tulane Green Wave • Vanderbilt Commodores 9h ago
I certainly didn’t come out of that game with the feeling Tulane was the better team

Tulane has not been worse than Memphis 4 of the last 5 years. Spent less money on the roster, sure, but not worse. Memphis hasn't even made a conference championship game since the NIL era started.

u/djsquilz Tulane Green Wave • Victory Flag 1h ago
i've always contested memphis is our second rival over USM. in my 30 years of going to games, i've never disliked USM more than memphis. (we all know who # 1 is)

How about defending AAC champions. How about 7 point underdogs at home. How about talented. How about loving and respectful. Lost my coach 10 months ago. Lost to Army a week ago. 22-2 in conference before that. My testimony. Nothing but pure. And I asked if you want to be in the college football playoff and you like JMU

I don’t think I’ve felt this happy all season.
Memphis just out shit us tonight and Will Hall along with his staff still should be fired into the sun but still an enjoyable win.
Trace should be the starting QB going forward, didn’t play the best and showed some questionable judgement but at least he can sling the ball past 20 yards and he’s still a freshman so will only get better over time.

I did a March madness bracket of only fight songs a few years ago and theirs became an instant favorite of mine

I was walking back from the game and a bunch of people were humming or whistling it.
4
u/cruxclaire Tulane Green Wave 15h ago
I was there in person and am a Tulane alum with multiple band friends, so I love the tiny Tulane band, and I still wish they could’ve handed over the halftime performance to the Memphis band. They’re not huge, but they have all the talent and energy of a Big Ten band. They made the game more enjoyable

I feel bad for the defense. They held Tulane to 0 points in the second half until that last play. Abysmal play by Marcus Stokes and the OLine, and playcalling in the red zone.

Our average scoring drive was 41.6 yards. if Memphis had just waited until the redzone to fumble, or had Tulane forced those turnovers when we were going into the wind, we would have lost this game.

Coaches have to stop going for it too early. Memphis could have been tying the game up. I see those situations fail way more often than they succeed

I was shanghai’d into attending whatever all this gestures wildly was
There were maybe 2000 people there, the student section was never more than half full and memphis looked absolutely dreadful the entire time. I ended up getting a pretty good buzz going on with a tulane dad with a bottle of buffalo trace in his boot. 10/10 would roll wave again
11
u/dbelcher17 Alabama Crimson Tide • Tulane Green Wave 18h ago
Definitely more than 2k in attendance, but a lot left early. Tulane crowds always have a lot of families with younger kids and older folks, so staying for an entire game on a Friday night is tough.
Glad you had a good time though.
