This program won 9 games less than 3 years ago. If this team goes 3-9 after going 1-11 Odom isn't the guy. We'll see how they respond, but this game had all of the classic hallmarks of an Odom blunder.

Purdue fans absolutely shouldn't have much to be excited about at the moment. The only people who were truly buying into the last 2 games were people who haven't been paying attention. Most Purdue fans were cautiously optimistic, but very wary of how "real" those wins were.

You guys beat Illinois and demolished Minnesota. Your schedule is unexpectedly hard. WF, UCLA, and wisky are much better than anticipated. The Washington and PSU games are 50/50 type games. Iowa is a really tough game assuming they found their QB. Indiana, ND are title contenders.

Not sure what you're expecting but given the schedule - if you're even a step up and competitive team you could go 3-9 against this schedule. You almost beat WF.

That sounds great when you lay it out from a high level, but when you watch these games game by game you see the same issues over and over. And the defense is an absolute mess. Which by the way is headed by Kevin Kane, a DC that Purdue has already fired.

This attitude that programs are built one win at a time isn't set in reality. When programs make the right hire, the results are apparent right away. Purdue hired Brohm after a disasterous 3 years of Hazell. People thought that was going to be a long rebuild. We were in a bowl year one. We've seen bad programs recently turn things around within a couple years.

It's a fallacy to think that progress goes in 1 win then 3 then 5 then 7, etc. That's rarely how this works.

Yes this is ridiculous, Purdue is starting from 0 and doesn’t spend insane money

If wanting to go better than 3-9 (what Purdue is going to go) every year requires a shit ton of money and a Cignetti-caliber coach, then they should just fold the program. That shouldn't be a monstrous ask to occasionally make a bottom tier bowl.

Odom sure as shit won't ever get them there

No but without those things you need time, can’t get rid of your coach every 15 games

If wanting to win around 6 games takes a Cignetti-caliber coach, then why even have a football program at that point.

Wanting to not go 3-9 every year (what they are going to go) is not a huge ask. You cannot tell me with a straight face that Odom will ever get this team to a bowl, let along being competitive in the conference

It's not, I literally used a Purdue example in Brohm. I never said I expected Purdue to become a national championship in a year. I didn't even say a bowl game in a year. What I am saying is it is absurd that you can say with a straight face that if a Purdue coach starts off with 1-11 and 3-9 seasons that is progress.

It's not unreasonable to think a good coach can turn around a team to 4-6 wins year one and then grow.
