Never forget: Purdue secured a fumble using an ass

And apparently holding a ball and taking about three steps with it isn't a catch.

And going down on your knee, sliding out of bounds, and then dropping the ball.

We just won our third ever Big Ten road game!

Maybe we can still be bowl eligible.

You may even be the 24th ranked team by the end of the season, 7-5 may be just good enough!

I know it’s a joke but for those that don’t…

No team since we expanded to 12 game regular seasons has finished 23rd or higher with only 7 wins.

And even then it happened… *checks notes* …once? ‘81 Buckeyes I think given my quick google gemini search?

Sparty is pretty bad, Penn State is near implosion. But the others are gonna be pretty tough. But Bowl season is a lot more optimistic than in previous weeks.

But still, you play to win the game.

78

u/elgenie Iowa Hawkeyes • Brown Bears 17h ago

Minnesota won by 3 at Washingon, then lost by 38 at Purdue.

Based on the scores going into tonight one would expect Purdue to win by at least 41; that turned out to be off by a small matter of 53 points, resulting in a very neat circle of suck.

The explanation is pretty easy, though: the only thing consistent about mediocre teams of young men in their late teens and early twenties is their week to week inconsistency.

21

u/No_F_In_Enough Washington Huskies 15h ago

Our starting QB, Demond Williams, is absolutely terrible. He was injured in our last game and our backup is now starting and he's head and shoulders better. We would likely have beat Minnesota and USC with our backup.

16

u/RhodeIslandisFake Wake Forest • Western Carolina 13h ago edited 13h ago

It’s pretty funny the school could have just let Demond transfer and probably avoided this disaster of a start to the season.

u/LiquidLight_ Notre Dame • Purdue 18h ago

No one wanted to win this. Absolute coaching malpractice from Kevin Kane. I think Washington punted once. Not to mention absolutely zero capitalization on FIVE Washington turnovers.

I guess Purdue just wanted to lose more.

76

u/Advanced_Gold1290 Purdue Boilermakers 17h ago

Kevin was awful as always, but was the offense that much better? We did essentially nothing with their 5 turnovers and every other drive. Given the situation, 26 is pitiful

This was on the entire team, minus special teams for the most part

9

u/LiquidLight_ Notre Dame • Purdue 17h ago

That was a shambles, but you can at least put a fig leaf on your shame and say "oh, well, Washington's defense". It's not much and it's a thin excuse, but the offense has looked sharp enough in other games to call this a terrible night and try to move on.

12

u/smowe Washington Huskies 16h ago

I will say that Washington is oddly talented from a roster standpoint for how shitty we are.

7

u/avalanche142 Washington Huskies 16h ago

I think they punted twice, but you're lucky...our punter has been our best player all year.

199

u/Thehomelessguy11 Washington • Georgia Tech 18h ago

It’s amazing how much the offense opens up when the threat of a good passer exists. Jedd Fisch called a great game tonight, and putting up 38 points is what an offense is supposed to do against a bad defense, accounting for the 5 turnovers.

I hope Demond gets healthy and is able to be a good backup to Brown going forward, but he should never takes a snap for us again. It’s perfectly clear to everyone that Elijah Brown should be starting going forward.

Need to get the defense figured out though…

71

u/Itchy-Advantage-4010 Washington • Southern Miss 18h ago

You can tell by the chemistry the guys were willing to battle for Brown than they did with Temu Kyler. Schedule is a bit up and down after the bye, but a bowl bid is obtainable.

44

u/Philoso4 Washington Huskies 18h ago

Open field tackling is atrocious.

23

u/whydidijointhis Washington Huskies 17h ago

5 Turnovers is coachable (IMO).

Fisch did really well tonight. Much, much better than I thought he'd do.

20

u/Thehomelessguy11 Washington • Georgia Tech 17h ago

Fisch has been limited by Demond's complete inability to see over the O-line. Completely takes away throws in the middle of the field which severely limits play calling. With no passing threat, the defense can key on the running game and I think that's why we haven't been able to run.

Until tonight. Brown looked great and the threat of a big pass was there all night, which in turn opened up the run game. 200 yards by Bonner and Cooley. Much needed confidence boost for the offense overall.

→ More replies (1)

3

u/TheWallsHaveNostrils Washington Huskies • Wisconsin Badgers 16h ago

One was a freak bounce on a punt. Dylan Robinson needs to pay better attention but that situation won't happen often.

Two of Elijah's INTs looked like miscommunication with the route being run. On the second interception it looks like Lawson thought he was supposed to be blocking or running a rub. He certainly made zero attempt to fight for the ball. And on the third interception Naone cut his route short like he was adding a curl to his drag route, and Brown threw it as though he thought the drag route was continuing across the field. Those I hope will be cleared up as he gets more game experience with the offense.

The first interception and the fumble are the turnovers that have me worried. That first interception was just an underthrown ball in a situation where you cannot afford to underthrow it under any circumstance.

And the fumble was Cooley's fourth of the year. It's the first one he's lost but that is becoming a real problem for him any time he touches the ball.

5

u/srush32 Washington • Oregon State 8h ago

Cooley also got hurt on that play, softy said he went to the locker room for xrays. Don't think we've heard his status

If he's out, that leaves the RB room as Bonner and some walkons

u/ilovecatss1010 Florida Gators • Arizona Wildcats 18h ago

Demond is yet another cautionary tale of NIL. after the shit he pulled this summer I’m secretly glad to see him fail.

With the bye week coming up Purdue might actually fire Kane and give themselves 2 weeks to transition to the new DC. If they don't do it now they'll ride him through the season and then fire him

Probably cost them 2 (arguably 3) games this year.

They gotta fix the turnovers obviously but the offense just looks completely different with Brown in there. Even the simple stuff looked difficult for Demond.

We'd probably be 6-1 if Brown started from the beginning. He should be the guy the rest of the year.

So Walters hires Kevin Kane as DC at Purdue knowing after he's inevitably fired the new head coach will for whatever reason bring Kane back and since he's a shitty DC it will be a free win for Washington, where he knew he'd be hired as DC in 3 years. All I can do is tip my hat it was a brilliantly executed plan.

62

u/gmr548 Texas Longhorns • Washington Huskies 18h ago

Elijah Brown and Sam Darnold have combined for 7 INTs in the last 7 days.

This team still sucks. The OL is atrocious. Brown is probably not the answer long term. The defense is undisciplined. Two more wins feels like a stretch. Fisch is still the guy that put UW here in the first place.

But sometimes it’s just nice to see a win. And doing so on the road is an actual achievement Happy for the guys.

What most of you may not know is that this was just the THIRD win on the road in B1G play under Fisch. He gets one win per year on the road and we just used it up. Congrats Mich St., you are now guaranteed a Win vs UW.

BTW, any article you see that uses the word "good" to describe this game needs to be flagged as AI....It may have been a "W" for UW, but there was nothing very little good about that game.

This is being a bit dramatic. The team has looked lifeless basically the whole season. They just got a pretty convincing win on the road to a team that just blew out a hot Minnesota. This is still more than likely the Huskies last win of the season, but doesn't mean you should feel bad about it. Cherish it. After a rough few weeks of football, I know I am.

5 turnovers and still win easily.

We are so back.

Browne vs Brown ended in Brown beating Browne, because Browne played like brown.

Regardless of the turnovers, which can be probably be attributed to lack of actual game reps with the 1’s, Elijah Brown made us look like a competent football team for the first time in WEEKS! If Jedd goes back to Demond after the bye he’s asking to be fired, Demond healthy or not.

u/No_Bill7679 Paper Bag 18h ago

Demond doesn’t even want to come back. He’s basically in the transfer portal now. Just informally.

I thought Washington’s offense looked much better with Eli Brown from Mater Dei at QB. He was a rare 4 year starter at Mater Dei, I watched him live more than a few times & he was one of the most impressive HS QBs I’ve seen. Obv he needs to eliminate the INTs, but I’m happy to see him playing well & leading his team to a win

5

u/Admirable_Jicama_476 18h ago

After last week I’m just glad to have a regular heartbeat. I love a first time start with a win though. He’s walking on cloud 9 for sure! Just has to get those INTs under control. He’s definitely one to keep an eye on. GO DAWGS 💜 💛☺️

5

I honestly thought that Drew Brees team got to 10 wins.

They had 8.

Purdue just can't have nice things in football it seems.

I don’t think it’s been said quite enough yet, but fire Kevin Kane. He brings nothing to the program except embarrassment

Washington might have their QB. I don’t think they win this game with Demond.

Put Barry Odom back on the hot seat

11

u/LiquidLight_ Notre Dame • Purdue 18h ago

At the very least he needs to answer for why Kevin Kane has a job with Purdue at this point.

7

u/etsuandpurdue3 Purdue • ETSU 18h ago

Like make the call going into bye week.

3

u/LiquidLight_ Notre Dame • Purdue 18h ago edited 17h ago

I understand giving him a few games. Let him stretch, get a feel for it, etc. But that should always come with the expectation that there are results.

The only result Kevin Kane is apparently capable of is allowing the other team's punter to have a week off.

3

u/PLEASE-USE-PFKEYS Purdue • Boston College 18h ago

IMO Odom gets one more year, but only if Kevin Kane gets tarmac'd the next time we watch one of these implosions.

Everyone agrees Kevin Kane is dog shit and needs to go.

Barry Odom hired him and continues to keep him employed. Odom is part of the problem. He has to go as well. We need to rip the bandaid off now and get it over with.

7

u/PLEASE-USE-PFKEYS Purdue • Boston College 18h ago

And replace him with who?

I remember when a guy got clowned on a couple weeks ago for saying we should have been interested in James Franklin. Looking back, that guy might have been onto something.

7

u/monkeypunch35 Purdue Boilermakers 18h ago

They 100% should have looked at Franklin. He probably would have loved the opportunity to harass Penn State by still being in the B1G.

Isn't he a hold over from the Ryan Walter era?

6

u/monkeypunch35 Purdue Boilermakers 18h ago

Worse. He was fired while under Walters. Then retired by the coach that replaced Walters.

Barry Odoms Buyout is 20.25mil after this season btw

8

u/No-Rent4369 18h ago

I think he is making good progress but this was just such an awful game. I think if purdue wins at least 5 games this year he stays. maryland and penn state are his chances. maybe wisconsin.

6

u/makualla Purdue Boilermakers 17h ago

We haven’t beat Wisconsin since 2003. It’s not happening this year either.

And Purdue officially received the loser belt from Washington.

5

u/Ya-Boi-69-420 Purdue Boilermakers 13h ago

If we go 3-9, we gotta fire Odom (I really doubt it, but put his seat will be hot as hell) I seriously doubt we'll go 3-9 since our schedule is still favorable despite this embarrassing loss.

How Kevin Kane is still employed, I have no idea he shouldn't even be here.

This team frustrates me so much. How do we consistently shit the bed in so many close games? Every game last year and now this year too, with Odom. The difference between losers and winners is winning these close games, which Barry Odom cannot do. Sure, we have 2 more B1G wins, but is that really saying much when we beat the worst teams in the B1G? Our goal should be Naty always not settling for 3-6 in B1G play.

I realistically see this team going 6-6 despite this fucked up game against Washington. Penn State and Maryland look fucking atrocious, and I'm not buying how "good" Wisconsin is. We really fumbled our season away with the Wake and UCLA game and we almost cooked our season with this game.

In all fire Kevin Kane yesterday and DOUBLE FUCK this team.

There better not be any shred of positivity when this team goes 3-9. They are still among the worst power conference teams in the country.

Odom isn't the guy, and everyone is going to see it when they still haven't made a bowl in about 3 years

u/STL-Zou Missouri Tigers 18h ago

Damn, this seems a bit much. 2 conference wins is a step. It’s not Odom’s fault they scheduled two tough non-conference games. If they schedule 3 non-conference games cupcakes like many schools they’re 5-2 right now
