K state joins Nebraska and Oklahoma in the elite club of beating Kansas 18 times in a row.

74

u/discofrislanders Fairfield • St. John's (NY) 1h ago

The crazy thing is KU still leads the all-time series by 9 games. What Snyder did to K-State is arguably more impressive than what Cig did to IU considering the eras they were each in.

Preach

29

u/OriginalMassless Hateful 8 • Kansas State Wildcats 1h ago

It's not arguable. It's totally different.

11

u/GridironFilmJunkie Sacramento State • Great West 1h ago

Exactly. Entirely different era. There is a reason Bill Synder is one of the most respected coaches in CFB history.

22

u/pinniped90 Illinois Fighting Illini • Cornell Big Red 1h ago

There's an argument that what Snyder did is the goat coaching job in the most narrow definition of goat. The singular greatest transformation of a program I can ever recall.

You can argue that he's responsible for a lot of what that university and town are today.

Cig might be top 5 but Indiana was never in danger of no longer being a major university. There was talk in 1980s Kansas that the state might not be able to sustain two flagships and maybe KSU should go to the WAC.

7

u/PeteF3 Ohio State Buckeyes 42m ago

K-State in the '80s was easily worse than Indiana in the '80s and worse than Indiana has probably ever been (the late '80s were actually a pretty good period for IU).

4

u/pinniped90 Illinois Fighting Illini • Cornell Big Red 37m ago

Yeah, plus they were full hoops blue blood back then.

KSU has some basketball history but were always in KU's shadow.

And ironically, Kansas State isn’t part of the “Big XII teams who haven’t lost to KU since their big ‘07 season” club.

Granted, that club only has one member left, and there’s a decent chance it has none by the end of this season.

Well yeah, it wasn't a top-5 conference salary being paid and hundred of millions invested in the football program. If Lance Leipold had any integrity he would resign from the football program tonight.

This has been one of worst collapses of a program with a future since...Kansas did it 20 years ago because the coach was mean.

Stop wasting your days on this program, I stopped caring after the Missouri game and it’s been wonderful, plenty of better things to spend your time and money than on this team in this arguably dying sport.

My wife, a KU grad, found out she was pregnant and our due date was earlier this week. I jokingly told her we could choose our son’s fandom from the result of this game. She agreed and several of our friends knew as well. I was never more nervous for one of these games. Could you imagine if we lost and then he had to watch his Jayhawks lose another 17 in a row?

I get the money situation is hard, but this program is floundering. Leipold has had chances - we have to try something new.

5

u/SKyJ007 Kansas Jayhawks • Army Black Knights 1h ago

The money situation isn’t hard, it’s awful. That stadium is a noose around the athletic departments neck. Not saying it wasn’t needed, but we aren’t going to win shit until money can start flowing back into the on the field product.

7

u/JohnPaulDavyJones Texas A&M Aggies • Baylor Bears 1h ago edited 1h ago

The question is, who has a better history of doing more with less and building a program than Lance Leipold?

If he can’t do it at Kansas, I’m not sure anyone can.

Edit: I didn’t realize Whitewater got good a couple years before Leipold took over. My B, feel free to point and laugh.

9

u/Gaudilocks Kansas Jayhawks 1h ago

Wisconsin-Whitewater went 14-1 in both years prior to him taking over, losing in the natty each time. Obviously maintaining excellence counts for a lot, but taking a fantastic team and maintaining it is a lot different than building from nothing.

2

u/JohnPaulDavyJones Texas A&M Aggies • Baylor Bears 1h ago

Huh, that’s my B. I thought Whitewater had been terrible before he took over. Thanks!

5

u/GridironFilmJunkie Sacramento State • Great West 1h ago

That's the thing though, he didn't do anything. His best years in the program are all played with recruits he didn't bring in. The second his long-time best friend OC left the offense fell off a cliff. This guy is legitimately the most overrated HC in the entire FBS. He is a certified 4th quarter and end of half choker. In 2024 alone Kansas blew 6 4th quarter leads in the final 2 minutes.

THE STREAK IS NOW A LEGAL ADULT, CAN VOTE, AND GET DRAFTED INTO MILITARY SERVICE.

25

u/leverich1991 Kansas State Wildcats 1h ago

Just your standard 3TD-4FG-1 safety 35-point performance.

I thought last year’s KU team would break the streak so of course they make this year’s game closer than last year’s.

24

u/crabcakes785 Kansas State Wildcats • Indiana Hoosiers 1h ago

18

u/LongjumpingIsopod124 Kansas State Wildcats 1h ago

Defense still seems weak but the score was closer than the game.

12

u/boeing2014 Kansas State Wildcats • Marching Band 1h ago

Yeah, take away the special teams blunder that gave up a kick return and the free 3 points off the Cure fumble and this is a blowout.

11

u/leverich1991 Kansas State Wildcats 1h ago

And if we had taken the points instead of going for it twice

2

u/ZeGreat5 Kansas Jayhawks 22m ago

Special teams, ball security, and smart coaching decisions are all important parts of being a good team though.

Regardless a W is a W but let’s stop pretending we can just take away vital parts of what makes a good football team (am unfortunately well aware KU is awful in all 3 of those categories as well)

“If Isaiah Marshall had just not thrown that 4th quarter interception and if our defense had just gotten a couple more stops, we would have won” I mean it sounds silly right?

Our fans have been far too pessimistic. We aren't a top team in the conference this year, but we aren't a bottom 4 team either.

2

If we don't beat ourselves against Cincinnati, fans are probably less pessimistic. We'd still get absolutely crushed by Houston, but if we were 4-1 instead of 3-2, people would feel a little better.

The thing we have to remember about this is that starting in 1990 the record in this series was 58-24-5 in favor of Kansas, a winning % of .695, now it is 64-55-5 still in favor of Kansas but now a winning % of .536. Would take a lot of work to find an equivalent turnaround going from nearly a 70% series to now nearly even.

Yeah, I honestly wasn’t excited that Lance was at KU because he always gave the feeling that he was turning the corner for the program. Alas, we’re still trying to get around the corner.

That said, I still think Lance is a decent coach. He pulled KU out of the dumpster and made them competitive again. He’s just been unable to get to the next level.

Thats the best part, theres almost always a weird bounce, special teams play, wild turnover, or something like that. Sometimes it’s so lopsided it doesn’t matter, and sometimes it matters quite a bit.

This team fucking sucks. Whatever. Still 9 years away from tying the record

u/ReignyRainyReign Kansas State Wildcats • Hateful 8 1h ago

Whatever. Not a single traditional student at KU or Kstate has a memory of KU winning this game.

You have to be 80 years old to have seen KU have a winning record.

I think y'all should fire Leipold. The honeymoon is over and it's inexcusable that KU still can't win this rivalry. Hell, if Indiana can win a natty in football, "we can't win in football because basketball is our sport" isn't an excuse anymore and schools like Kansas, Kentucky, and Duke are perfectly capable of winning football natties.

I’m on the same boat. I appreciate what he’s done for making us not a total joke but his times done

Your comment wishing Missouri had salted the earth in Lawrence after burning the city down was really classy.

We will see you next year
