Casual Sunday early morning thread brought to you by changes of heart.

In short, supposed to go golf with work buddies later today, but at the same time I

  1. Haven’t slept worth a damn and am exhausted

  2. Have the opportunity for lunch with friends I don’t get to see very instead

Strongly considering flaking on golf for lunch instead as my head and heart just aren’t in it atm

Oh man, I’d flake on golf in a heartbeat. We use our nieces as our excuse to get out of things we don’t want to do at the last minute constantly.

In other news, do you’ll ever struggle with envy for your friends who kind of seem to have everything more or less handed to them? There’s a couple in my wife’s and my close friend group who have been thriving for the last year or two, and I love that for them, but the wife in that couple has this bad habit of sometimes preaching to the rest of us about how we’re living our lives, with zero recognition of how much has been handed to the two of them.

Both of them got their jobs through pretty overt nepotism, had their entire college experience paid for by their parents, her family subsidized their house down payment and fixing the house up, her family subsidizes her luxury car, and she’s about to have their first kid.

I want to be happy for them, but it’s really annoying to have her telling me what I need to be doing with my life when not all of us have had life served up to us on a silver platter.

I hear you, that’s tough. I think we all go through that a little bit in our 20s and 30s, I definitely did.

For me, it was my best friend and his wife when they had their families taking care of things for them financially in their 20s in a way that neither my better half nor I could ever hope that our families could do for us. I think sometimes it’s easier for people to focus on their perceived struggles to avoid realizing that they’ve had incredibly privileged lives compared to others, it helps justify the “I deserve this” mentality when things come easily to them compared to the less-privileged.

I’ve been spoiled both Vanderbilt teams and the Belmont men this season.

I kinda (but also don’t) want Belmont and Vanderbilt to play in the NCAA tournament later this month.

You have permission to flake out on golf! It’s barely a sport! (just kidding…sorta) you’ll see work people at work. Go spend time with your friends!

I feel ya on the “no sleep” thing! Hope you can relax and get some rest today.

Be selfish then and flake out

A hockey ticket was very reasonable so I pulled the trigger and went last night. It was great fun and the home team won!
